UFC and MMA are fads that will fade like acid wash jeans!

I just don't understand the appeal. The only thing I will roid make fun of is tv wrestling and NASCAR. Those two things are joke sports and I wouldn't even call either of those sports.

Pro wrestling isn't a sport. It's a live action comic book.

you really dont understand mma at all chaseter since you obviously just say it is a bunch of bums punching each other in the face but in an arena instead of the street

it takes years of skill and dedication to hone up to several disciplines

Boxing
Wrestling
Brazilian Jujitsu
Kick Boxing
Judo
Karate
etc.

take tons of skill, technique, patience to pull off such moves these world class athletes do so i am guessing you hate boxing a well

Thanks for proving mah point that it's barbaric and odd to me that people love it when stuff like that happens. What if they died? It's like Nascar fans going crazy when a car crashes even though the driver can die. Next time I am at a football game I am going to go crazy when someone gets knocked out. That means that the guy who knocked out the other guy trained longer and harder.

It's a sport. That's fine. It's no different than someone training for years to play football or to play golf or to play soccer. There isn't anything more holy about MMA than any other athletic sport. I just don't get the appeal of two men fighting each other almost within an inch of their life. Plus Bumfights are less mainstream and more hipster. Tapout needs a Bumfights line.

Stuff like this has always been around. That's fine. Would I be one of the people in the Colisseum cheering as I am watching men get eaten by tigers or fighting each other to the death? Prolly not.

 except that Joe Rogan was 100% RIGHT in that video.

Anyone else who said what Joe Rogan said in that video would be right, but it's Joe Rogan and he should never be encouraged.

Personally, I couldn't give two ****s either way about MMA. The only thing it does is throw a wrench in my "Poor people fight dogs and roosters, rich people fight minorities" joke by having a lot of white guys.

it is mind boggling why you cant see why people would love guys going toe to toe in a fist fight

it is like asking why men like sex

I'm older than the age-bracket that the OP was referring to and I like to watch MMA stuff. Its not my favorite sport and I prefer boxing over it, but its still very cool to watch - at least with the upper-echelon combatants.

My guess is, it MIGHT die down a bit and settle into a nice comfortable spot amongst the combat-related sports. It also may continue to rise and get bigger and bigger. Either way it will continue to get richer and richer in depth and history, as opposed to fading out. The martial arts die-hards certainly arent going to let it die..I'm not a die-hard and I still want to continue watching it...

So I'm sorry OP but you're just plain wrong on this one! :down

Man, Wolverine will be sad
the same reason 22 people chase after a ball trying to hit it into nets, or 10 people chase after a ball to shoot into a basket, or 30 people run into each other chasing after an oval ball (rugby), etc. etc.

It is sport and for many it is entertaining.
And educational if you watch to learn tactics

This thread if friggin' laughable. I don't even watch MMA that much but the criticisms in this thread just reeks of punk-assness and contradictions, if I may be so blunt. To compare any organized fighting sport to Afghanistan executions is extremely over the top melodramatic. There is no more violence in MMA or boxing than there is in Harry Potter, but we have no problem with seeing kids fight to the death. And I know it's fiction but the point still remains.

So....MMA is barbaric and has the danger of killing the participants? I challenge anyone to name one single physical contact sport that is completely injury or death proof. Hell, athletes have died playing baseball. Jeez, what a bunch of pansies in this thread.

Many birds have fell victim to the might of the slider and home-run balls.

Nobody compared MMA to executions. Someone mentioned how MMA is honorable and hand to hand combat is honorable so therefore MMA is a high class honor bound sport. Well in Afghanistan killing your westernized daughter is honorable. MMA is just another athletic sport. That was my point. It has nothing to do with honor.

The difference is cheering for it to happen. In MMA and boxing, people cheer when someone gets knocked out unconscious. He could even be ****ing dead. Nobody gets up and cheers when someone gets hit so hard in football that he falls to the ground unconscious. Nobody cheers in soccer when someone's leg gets broken. Nobody cheers in Nascar when a car gets out of control and does 20 fiery flips. See the difference?

This does not in any way make your statement any less asinine. You are still trying to discredit a sanctioned sporting event by lumping it in with intentional slayings of women in another culture. This is no different than the cliched attempts to make something look damning by comparing it to Hitler.

There is definitely honor to be found in martial arts, no less than football or even kayaking. These athletes take pride in what they do. It has nothing to do with honor? Tell that to the thousands of men and women who push themselves for four years to win gold at the Olympics. If you don't like the sport then that's cool but your opinions are just childish in nature.

Again, you are just splitting hairs. The cheers generated from the MMA crowd are no different from NFL fans. You honestly think that people don't tune in for three hours every sunday for the thrill of seeing a bunch of men clashing into each other like raging rams? The same amount of damage caused in fighting sports can and is obtained on the line of scrimmage. This is the nature of physical contact. This does not make it dishonorable or barbaric.

This is a bizarre comparison.

I have mixed feelings about MMA. I'm a practioner in both Judo and Goju-Ryu Karate, and along with the physical stress and athletic prowess you have to endure and earn, there is also the spiritual and psychological lessons that come along the way. In both practices, and so is such in many other martial arts, you learn how to fight so that you never have to. And when a fight does come along, you are merciless to your opponent so that you can end it early, hence showing them complete mercy. I have watched some of these MMA fights that stretch on and on and on, when it really should be done as soon as humanly possible. And I know that might be unrealistic, but that aspect is slightly 'barbaric', watching two men slaughter each other for a few rounds, no knockouts or submissions, hence doing much more damage to each other than otherwise. Just blood and bruises and more blood.

And I could say that MMA is the exact opposite of what martial arts is about, showcasing such violence in the name of your craft, but on the other hand, there have been sparring contests for centuries between masters...as long as there is respect and love at the foundation of the fight, that afterwards the two combatants can shake hands with one another and harbor no ill feelings, then I see no major problem with it. These aren't the gladiators we're talking about. There is some honor left I think.

One demented ******** fanboy's ramblings about the MMA leads to everyone arguing about honor and Afghanistan?

Only on the Hype.

Those who have never stepped in a Dojo, or been in a fight cannot possibly fathom the purpose behind The Art of War.

I view it as an honor to square off against a combatant because the old saying is true -- you learn so much about a person's character and personality when they fight.

It's more than just two guys seeking bloodshed and fame (for me anyways). 80% of the fight game is mental, it's all about the mind.

Now alot of Martial Art purists will disagree with me, and that's fine but as a fellow Martial Artist I respectively disagree with your view. In my ventures in Combat Sambo, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kyokushin & Shotokan Karate, Catch-Wrestling, Kali/Silat/Escrima, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kenjutsu/Kobudo and Ninpo, I've come to realization that it is either something you're born with, or not.

So long as there is war, there will always be warriors to fight them. Hand-to-Hand Combat is no different, it is as old as time itself.

Some of you people make me laugh so hard. Maybe it's a strategy to mental fight me. We should stop giving handshakes and waves and start giving punches to the face and kicks to the shins.

Spoken like a child.

BUT, then again, you are from Texas :whatever:

Very well said.

My point still remains. It's your opinion. Either you like it or don't. It's legal and regulated. If you don't like it, don't criticize others who do.
