Comics Ultimate Spider-man #98 Discussion.... Spoilers

I just don't get why this new spider-girl called Pete "tiger." We know it wasn't MJ and if it really is a Pete clone like most people are guessing, there's no reason she would call him tiger. That has always been a trademark MJ word.
Gene-spliced MJ and Peter.

Just like Carnage was gene-spliced - Pete and Doc Conners...

Hmm...another issue where Peter's spider sense seems to have been thrown completely out the window. What is up with him jumping into the f4 building's defences? Lame.
I'm not sure how comics are created but this might be Bagley's fault. Maybe he should of drawn spidey with the little lightning bolts to show his spidey sense.

Just Pete's spidey sense doesn't always save him. It just tells him he is in trouble. If he can't figure out where the trouble is at...it won't save him. Atleast, that is the impression I got...

However, I bet Bendis is probably suppose to write something in the script reminding him to do that....

Nah. Spider-Man's Spider-Sense is intensely instinctive. It works like this.

If he senses impending danger, on his own person, his body will react instinctively to protect itself.

If Pete tosses himself from a roof trying to commit suicide..his body will instinctively reach out and try to stop the fall.

It's happend before.

Now questions if we assume that spider woman is a female peter. Well if he were to have intimate relations with her. Would that count as incest(like a twin) or umm the solo act?

It may be explained like that, but in practice it sure as hell doesn't work like that. If it did, Pete would never get injured as his body would twist out the way automatically for any threat, ensuring that he'd never get hurt.

His Spider-sense doesn't make his body react automatically. If Spider-man tries to jump off a roof...he dies.

His Spider-sense is never explained as making his body move like that. If that was the case, Spider-man would NEVER get hurt or hit at all because he could just close his eyes and his Spider-sense would make him move left, right, up and down all over.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Very Nate Grey-ish.

Besides, the other most important plot point in the 616 Clone Saga other than Ben Reilly was Baby May, so here's to hoping.

He does this 616, at least in the 90s he was dodging many guns simultaneously, where his body twisted in the air at just the right positions instinctively to avoid being hit.

But his Spider-sense doesn't FORCE his body to move that way. He reacts that way. The Spider-sense buzzes and he moves that way.

I think it's kinda similar to some of our regular, everyday instinctual reactions. For example, our eyelids will instantly close when something might get into our eyes without us having time to think about it. If I was riding a bike and a bug accidentally almost gets in my eye, my eyelids will close before I can consciously think about closing them. If humans didn't have this reflex reaction then I would've been blind long ago, cause oftentimes there's no way you can consciously react fast enough to close your eyelid before something like glass or a bug gets in it. So I think his Spider-Sense is a very heightened part of his reflexes. Just like how breathing is a reaction that I don't have to consciously think about it, unless I decide to say, hold my breath.

Oftentimes, I think Spidey is purely reacting by instinct and not relying on conscious thought to avoid attacks or bullets. He's not the Flash where everything is slowed down for him and he isn't Batman or Captain America who are highly trained and know why they make the moves they make. This also doesn't mean he'll never get hit. Just cause he's knows where something (like a bullet) is coming from doesn't mean he can avoid it in time. Also, let's say MJ dies (although I'd rather not) and Peter decides he wants to kill himself by standing in front of a bullet then he could do that but similar to holding your breath he would have to consciously ignore his instinct to move out of the way (or to breathe). The most overused phrase I've heard Spidey use in regards to his Spider-Sense (other than the obvious one) is...."My body is screaming" for me to move out of the way or something to that effect.

i agree. very well said.:D another theory is the complete slowdown you see in the spider-man movie where he fights flash.

Case in point: In the Silver Sable arc, Pete's spider sense doesn't make him throw her phone away. It just lets him know something is up, if he's too stupid to listen, he... well, he gets unmasked usually. :(

Different Writers have done spidey's spider-sense in different ways, theres no point in arguing how it works exactly. Any who, does anyone think that the Spider-Girl clone is going to be the Scarlet Spider? Seeing as how Ultimate Ben Reilly is a non-clone african american. I think she called Peter Tiger because she knew he was looking for MJ, and seeing as she's a clone of peter she tries to creep him out, just like the real peter probably would.

loved it, single best issue of US in a long time. Lots of mystery and intrigue and i'm so glad to see gwen back!

^^ What if Gwen was cloned a while ago and it was the clone that Carnage killed.

Alright, maybe it's a little ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than the concept of multiple Peter Parker clones.

That could work, but honestly, i'd be willing to accept a ridiculous explanation if it meant Gwen's return full-time. That's just how much i enjoyed the character...

I certainly wouldn't do it for everyone.

im happy to see that gwen is back but im hoping that this arc doesnt cheapen her death. I wasnt a fan of the carnage arc and also hated to see gwen stacy die. But hopefully she is back for good:spidey:

Probably is the real Gwen, all the clues are their. Gwen asks, "When did you move?" If she were a clone she probably would have been more confused as her last memory would have been coming home and being attacked by carnage, Gwen seems like she's aware of the passing of time. MJ was also the last person to see Gwen alive...AT THE MALL?! She made a point of that in some issue, make ya think?... Or maybe she is a clone.
