Ultimatum Begins!

Because believe it or not Loeb sells more than millar and Bendis combined. Loeb is a HUGE name in comics, Ultimatum sold more than Secret Invasion AND Final Crisis. Its astonishing how he pulls that off, completely astonishing. It doesn't matter what Loeb's quality is, from a business stand point, Loeb is a goldmine. Its the same over at DC with Frank Miller, his All Star Batman and Robin is the worst comic book ever created and its sells like hot cakes. Notoriety goes a long way.

Loeb is so terrible he can't even keep continuity between issues of his own book never mind between his and another writer's. I mean holy crap, Cap was fine at the end of Ultimatum #1, then #2 suddenly he's not breathing? WTF? I'm beginning to think that punching myself in the cock is preferrable to reading a Jeph Loeb book. How does this man get work let alone basically be put in charge of an entire line of books.

That my friend is pure gold, and damn true!

Millar can't come back soon enough. We must return to the glory days of Ultimates 1 & 2~

I've heard that the Ultimate Universe will end after this event..is it true? I hear it's going to be good, and I would look into it also.

It probably won't so much end as it will restart it. Some titles will get cancelled but there may be new ones, for example Ultimate Avengers.

Aside from Loeb in general, Ultimate Hawkeye is now ruined for me as well as Giant-Man. Ultimatum #2 goes and removes the one special thing about the guy by having his vision enhanced by 'the program'. I already hated his change in role and his change in weaponry without his archery skills being joked up to bionic enhancements...

The end of UXM is probably the end of my comic book collecting too. I do read other titles but only pick them up sporadically when I go to buy UXM. Unless I find another comic I like well enough to buy every month I will probably stop reading altogether. Ultimate x-men is the reason I go to the comic book store. 616 interests me occaisionally but it has so much history sometimes it get confusing.

Also they killed off punk Dazzler! The most interesting incarnation of Dazzler. Grrr :cmad:

Ultimate X-men used to be soo good man. Everything up to " New Mutants" was completely astounding.

Yeah, when they make the new X-men movies, they should just take the first few arcs and film them with minor adjustments.

X-men 1: Tomorrow People
X-men 2: Return to Weapon-X (but putting Wolverine "killing" Cyke in the end.)
X-men 3: Return of the king

Millar on UXM was good stuff.

how bout no?

I didn't like Millar's run on UXM. He had a real chance to hit a homerun instead he just wrote a bunch of weak Michael Bay style action films.

In fact, I was so put off by UXM I didn't even read his run on The Ultimates until recently (after much urging by a friend). I'm glad I did because The Ultimates 1 & 2 rocked. I guess that was just more his cup of tea than X-Men were.

Actually im kinda excited with the x-men: first class concept they are going with, focusing on the younger members. Which is getting x-men back to its original concept, kids dealing with their powers and the world around them.

UXM was strong as a whole until Kirkman came onboard. Then it spiraled into suckitude.

Could someone please tell me when the next issue comes out.

So when does Rick Jones turn up then? As much as I liked Ultimate Origin, I thought the modern day in-between bits were a tad pointless until the culmination of them was the announcement of a major tragedy and another turning point in Earth's history that needed to be observed, and the alteration of the Watchers chosen one. The last page was a bit anti-climactic because Ultimatum itself has been slow coming out and I'd almost forgotten that presumably Rick is supposed to play a part in defeating Magneto or ensuring important elements survive.

Yeah, really. I don't understand why. I mean, the people who think Bendis and Millar are bad must look at Loeb's work and bleed from the eyes.

Ultimate-verse really hasn't been that great for me ever since they killed Gambit off. :(

Gambit isn't really a figurehead, so I could take that...plus he's kind of a 90s throwback, so in the updated Universe he felt slightly out of place. Definitely not a necessity in an X-Men story. DareDevil though...he's the man, and he's one of the classics, you can't kill him:csad:

I don't think I'd miss Daredevil if he got killed off in the 616-verse, even. Never was much of a fan.

It does seem a bit redundant killing all these characters. The purpose seems to be to streamline things as the cleaner, clearer ultimate universe had become too all over the place. But the snippets of news we've had suggest that after all this there's gonna be Ultimate Ghost Rider and a bunch of others

Gambit's my number one. I was deeply crushed. :(

I kind of wonder if this story won't end up a la Infinity Gauntlet where most of the end will be retconned out. I can see some impact from the stories, and yet I kind of doubt Spider-Man is going to end up being about some super-hero fighting crime in a post-Katrina/Armageddon world.

ultimate daredevil death was kind of random.

I also suspect Giant Man bites the dust in Ultimatum # 3 because so far the people on the variant have died each time... so we'll see if that holds true on issue 3 or if it was a coincidence.
