Ultimatum Begins!

Bought it, read it... meh....

If the facts are as they read, then
Beast is dead (again) unless Kurt ported them both away, Johnny is dead (as we had narrated time points, he was underwater for 8 minutes) any number of the Ultimates are dead, and Thor left his hammer with Magneto after Ultimates V3 and wasnt that fussed about getting it back

Could be good, could be bad. If the point of ultimatum is to cull the characters because of a little too much "re-introduction of old ones" rather than development of the 15 or so they started with, then it might not be a bad thing if they werent then ending two of the titles.

It is kind of annoying that Loeb thinks he can fix the Ultimate Universe by killing a dozen characters in a single issue. Hopefully there is some depth in the next issue or this series is screwed.

I thought the point of the mini-series was to cap off a few Ultimate series and bring the Ultimate universe down to just Ultimate Spider-Man and The Ultimates. If that's the case, killing off characters seems like it would be the obvious thing to do in the story.

Actually I'm sure the deaths and this supposed "fix" isn't Loebs idea, but Joe Q's.

In the last interview I read about Ultimatum, this is basically the point of the story. There won't be any other Ultimate books other than USM and Ultimates, which is getting Mark Millar back on it after Ultimatum.

Appearantly, the remainder of the other teams will do their own thing and cameo in the other books if the writers want them to. How much do you wanna bet that Wolverine will end up on the Ultimates. :p

Not that I know of. I don't read Ultimate X-Men or the Ultimates, so I'm not certain.

He isnt...thank god ...im tired of seeing wolverine in every single comic book

I promise you, just wait. Post Ultimatum, he'll be the newest member of the Ultimates. ;)

No what?

Have you read something stating that it was all Loeb's master plan? As EIC of Marvel, most ideas either come from or go through Joe Q. As much as some of you hate on Loeb for his horrible writing of late, everything can't be blamed on him.

The explanation for Rulk lifting Thor's hammer can, and that's all I need. :o

That.....can be blamed solely on Loeb. I don't know what he was thinking there.

so is nightcrawler actually dead, he can teleport. If he's alive it's possible that Beast is alive too. Torch is done though.

It seems like alot of Loeb's writing is trying to get Heroes-esque plot-twists, but failing on the delivery. The main concept of Ultimates 3, behind some unneeded side-stories, had great potential. Loeb just can't tell a story worth crap. For me, the last issue of Ult3 was quite revealing and interesting. If he would have been less focused on having people keep asking questions and more focused on just telling a great story, it could have been a pretty good read.

The message from Xavier to everyone might be the prelude of things to come. He said they all had to put aside their petty squabbles and differences to fight the common foe (like the premise of the Avengers in the first place).
Maybe the killings off and the streamlining of the titles could be a way of having a huge Ultimates team that is not under SHIELD control that deploys suitable squads to deal with whatever situations arise. The X-Men might merge with the Ultimates basically. I mean, in the 616 both Sue and Reed have been Avengers, and Beast. Ultimate Spidey will still be around as a title from a storyline point of view simply because of the age restriction thing Fury has stated several times.

Won't happen of course - the X-Men and FF will just cameo and guest star every few months as their own teams.

I don't mind the universe, but the only book I feel the need to spend money on is USM. I usually keep up on the universe as a whole through the boards here. :p

Some of the people here just like to bash something since it's the cool thing to do. Most of those people probably read the books in real life...but hey have to live up to their image online. :p

Yes:
"When I pitched it at the last creative retreat to all the editors I thought for sure they were going to say, 'Are you kidding? You can't do that!'" Loeb told CBR News.

This and Ultimates 3 were all Loeb's ideas. And he has said as much in pretty much every interview he has given about Ultimatum.

Joe Q still has to approve them...so in that case, blame is on both of them. No matter what happens, it always is the bosses fault.

Thanks for the link though, I didn't know that Loeb pitched it. They are both at fault then.

People hate those books like somebody is forcing them to read 'em

I haven't read any Ultimate titles in years, and I was talking trash about them long before it became cool to do so. :oldrazz:

Whatever. The EIC can't shoot down every pitch he gets without coming off like a fascist and/or a-hole. There's not a single comic book company on Earth that doesn't have any crappy titles or bad ideas. Blaming the EIC for every single thing in a comic you don't like is silly.
