Ultimatum Begins!

in that case, X needs to buy a gun... ****.... wait... metal. dammit. nevermind. guess he was screwed. :o

why oh why could marvel approve this garbage? I think Loeb needs to start looking into other careers cause hes' shot on comics. Or atleast stay over at DC and rape their characters.

I could be wrong but i dont think Xavier has telekinesis, i think he just has the ability to read minds and alter minds, but i dont think he can lift objects and stuff like that. I could be wrong but i dont ever remember him doing that.

No, I'm pretty sure Ultimate Xavier was a telepathic/telekinetic, just like Jean. Now, whether or not writers subsequently forgot about that is a whole other matter.

I'm pretty sure he was just a telepath, but I'm still not comfortable with the way he went out. I mean come on, a
Magneto didn't even use any powers! He just walked behind him and snapped his neck!
As powerful a telepath as he is, he could've called ou for help. I can't believe there was no one in the mansion.

Can someone give detailed spoilers on what happened in #2? I wont be able to get to my comic book store until next Tuesday...

basically
the ish deal with the fallout of the flood. 1) Spider-Man is struggling with a rescue when the Hulk shows up to help. 2) Tony storms into the Triskelion with Cap, who's clinically dead, which was weird bc he was alive in ish 1 and SHIELD medics attempt to revive him. 3)Hank and Hawkeye continue to look for Jan. Clint reveals that his vision's been upgraded through the "program". With his fancy vision, Clint finds Jan, who's being devoured by the Blob (sick scene which really was over the top). 4)The Thing is in the Baxter Building looking over a comotose Sue when her powers go bonkers and knocks him out of the room. 5)Reed with Namor knocked out, is captured/picked up by Doom, who has Zarda from the squadron supreme. They briefly agrue over the real culprit but then Doom proclaims that they must find Nick Fury. 6)Thor finds Valkyrie dead @ the statue of liberty, gets pissed, and goes to Valhalla to reclaim her soul. He is challenged by Hela, mistress of the dead. During his battle with the undead, the spirit form of Capt America comes to his aid, much to the bewilderment of Thor. 7) The most important scene of them all. @ an deserted X-mansion, Prof X is visited by Magneto. They argue about why Magneto is attempting to destroy the world. Mags proclaims that he's cleasing the earth of humanity. Prof X tells him that he will lead the charge to bring him in and compares Mags to Hitler. This pisses Magneto off who then snaps Charles' neck with little effort.

I'm pretty sure Xavier is just a telepath. If he was Telekinetic, he wouldn't need to be rolling aroung in a wheel chair. That would be like Iceman needing ice-cubes, or Human Torch needing a lighter.

it would take an awful amount of energy to use your telekinesis to keep you standing and walking all the time.

Does it really take that much for telekinetics to fly? Also, even if it took a ton of energy to keep yourself constantly walking, you wouldn't need that much energy to defend yourself when in danger. Prof. X has been in plenty of situations where he could've/should've used telekinesis if he really had it. So it's pretty clear that Ult. Prof. X does NOT have telekinesis, he doesn't need to constantly keep flying, but if he could actually fly than why hasn't he used the ability in the 100 issues that Ult X-Men has exsisted.

I think you just want to disagree, just to disagree.

Actually I wasn't. It was more a statement than anything else. Along the lines if it he used telekinesis to make himself stand or walk all the time it would take up alot of energy and concentration which could make it a bit more difficult to do other things. I never said he didn't have it. You said that if he did than why doesn't he use it to make himself walk all the time which I in turn stated a reason as to why he may not use telekinesis to do as such if he does have. Maybe I should have been clearer ...

He's a telekinetic. During the original Hellfire Club arc he was being wheeled up to a ceremony and rather than being lifted by someone, he raised his own chair above the steps. He claimed he didn't have abilities on Jean's level, but that he could manage that. I would assume TK is a lot like strength, there are varying degrees of ability. Prof X is a telekinetic, just a very weak one.

I'm not convinced the end isn't some dream sequence. It seemed really out of sync with the rest of the story. I suppose we'll find out more next issue.

One moment Magneto is up in his floating castle goading the heroes to come for him, the next he comes down to snap his best friends neck. I suppose I can't expect much from a book that had Captain America fine an issue earlier.

WTF happened to Loeb. How can you go from story beats like The Long Halloween, Spider-man Blue and even Hush and then write stuff like this? I mean the guy has lost the ability to write pretty much. Right now I'm buying Ultimatum simply for the art. Geez it's sad that Loeb is now comparable to the modern Frank Miller.

Okay, as long as it makes sense. Basically Prof. X is a weakling when it comes to TK, to the point of never using it.

Ok...I've read the second issue, and I think it will be the last ultimatum issue I'll read. I thought it was full of wanna-be "wow" moments (Wasp being eaten, Cap "dying", Thor VS the "army of darkness"...) but they all felt flat, because I didn't care a bit about the caracters.

I thought that everything that was great about the ultimates, they are slowly but surely taking it away and, on a second note, making it like a 616 rip-off (Hank Pym in his classic Yellowjacket suit...)

In conclusion....I didn't like it

1. Loeb's books sell incredibly well. Wolverine: Mega Seller. Fallen Son: Mega Seller. Hulk: Ultra-Mega Seller. Ultimates 3: Mega Seller.

Ultimatum #1 was the best selling comic for November.

I don't know how well the next volume of Ultimates will sell if Jeph stays on. With all the negativity I've heard, I doubt it will sell as well as it has in the past. I was under the impression that individual issue sales of vol 3 plummeted as the series went on and not just because the book was always late. :(

It baffles me that Loeb's books sell better than any writer out there. The thing is, Loeb was never even that great of a writer, in my opinion at least. I just read Dark Victory the other day for the first time, it was a solid story but it was nothing extraordinary. In fact if it wasnt for Tim sale it probably would have been just average. Loeb's always been a straight forward "action" comic book writer, he's never written any complex or interesting tales. Long Halloween was good, but nothing special, Spiderman Blue was good but hardly anything special, the same for his other works. And all his recent stuff is just horrible for no reason.

What pisses me off the most is he BLATENTLY ignores other writer's work and characterizations. Say what you will about Bendis and Mark Millar, but at least those guys still preserve the general essence of the characters they are writing, they just put a modern twist to it. Loeb just writes people however the F*** he wants and ignores any and all progression. WTF happened to Ultimate THOR?? WTF happened to Ultimate Hawkeye??? Or Hank "That must make me the motherf***er!!" Pym. Even Cap and Tony are vastly different from how Millar made them. How is Millar allowing Loeb to destory his creations like this anyway?? I'd be pissed off if someone did that to my characters. Anyway, i just dont understand the fuss about Loeb to begin with.

I don't think Millar would care one way or another how his characters are altered....I mean look at the movie version of WANTED.

I think in the end Millar doesn't care as long as he is making money. Its sad but that how most people are today.
