I watched Uncharted and it's a decent action, adventure globe trotting film that is very remincent of Indiana Jones, Tomb Radier, National Treasure etc.... the thing is those films have done it much better.

It's clear that the director and producers drew heavy inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Theif's End and elements from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (The Plane Sequence)

The casting of Tom Holland seem very studio inspired to garner the audience attention from his success as Spider-Man to support this new intended franchise. Tom does a decent job as Nathan Drake, his charm and charisma definitely shines giving weight to his performance. He also does way more acrobatic and parkor stunts than he did in his Spider-Man appearances in the MCU.

Mark Wahlberg was totally miscasted as Victor Sullivan, their is nothing remotely resembles Sully in his performance. Instead it's just Marky Mark playing the generic action guy he usually plays in films.

Sophie Ali as Chloe Fraser doesn't really add much to the character, she basically plays the female double cross theif you suspect. I'd have much more preferred they had introduced the reporter Elena Fisher, maybe in the sequel if it gets made

The studio messed up they should've just listened to the fans and casted Nathan Fillion, this fan film is better .

I'm honestly tired of the Nathan Fillion suggestion for every snarky white guy character. I like him fine but I never got this huge appeal for him. He doesn't do anything special. And besides he's too busy and too old for most of the roles he's been suggested for.

They don't/didn't need to go with Fillion. As much as I love Uncharted and the characters, they're all really generic. Really there are at least 10 viable, realistic, and reasonable choices for Nathan Drake, Elena, Sully, Chloe, etc. That's what kinda made the fancasting years ago kinda annoying. None of these characters are that deep and there was no reason to be picky. But that's also why the studio's casting for this confusing to me. Really didn't need to be difficult

The characters in the live-action movie are even more generic, especially Antonio Banderas' phoned in villain.

I liked it enough for what they did with the age difference from the games they had to create their own story and provided some main moments from the games. I expect Elena will be introduced later in the franchise. In the games we knew Nathan and Sully had a lot of adventures so it feels like the movies will try to create those unseen adventures.

Based on the post-credit scene seems like it's leading into the first game so yeah Elena is definitely getting introduced in the sequel.

Another drawback against Fillion is his age.
He turns 51 in one month.
A lot of people say the film is rushed.
If you wait two years for a sequel Filion is pushing 53.
Three years,54.
I suppose if you wanted, you could make him a family member or a friend of the Drake Clan.
You could tie him to the Drake Legacy somehow.
I know people are upset about the studio casting Tom Holland.
But,Holland's youth gives the studio,MANY opportunities for sequels

Well had they not waffled 13 years to make this thing! LOL

I saw it last night and as someone with no attachment to the franchise (I only know surface things about the games and haven't played them) I thought it was enjoyable but nothing amazing or anything. Kinda similar to that Tomb Raider film from a few years ago actually. It's no Indiana Jones and I'd even say it's no National Treasure (which I have a decent amount of fondness for). Biggest criticism I have is that some of the action sequences just felt too CGI/overexaggerated and even though it's based on video games, it takes me out of the movie when normal people are put in extreme situations and we get ragdoll physics and characters taking big hits with no injuries.

I also have fondness for National Treasure and I always wish they would've made a third movie.

That's what I don't get. Money hungry, franchise grubbing Hollywood that is so franchise and sequel obsessed has these smash hit films like National Treasure and they end up NOT milking it for all its worth. They stopped at 2, and the second one was an even bigger hit than the original.

They are making a National Treasure TV series for Disney Plus.
It has nothing to do with the movies.
It will star Catherine Zeta Jones.

I'm kinda torn on current video game adaptations because I feel the heyday for video game movies SHOULD have been 30 years ago back when storytelling in games was far more limited. Now games are just as cinematic as anything in Hollywood and in some cases even blows Hollywood away. I'd rather see Tom Holland and Marky Mark in anything else frankly.

Not surprised, the general movie audience will enjoy this. It's an entertaining film and Tom Holland has appeal to girls and young kids so it's a studio win.

Just got out and it was about what I expected. A decent and fun action adventure movie but not the best adaptation of the actual games.

I played the games here and there but not necessarily a huge fan like others are.

Tom did an okay job. He brought charisma and physicality to Drake which worked.

I actually thought Wahlberg was pretty good as Sully.

Not a movie I'd really want to revisit unless it was on tv or something but I'm still interested in a sequel at the same time

The double edge sword with success is that the sequels start costing more. The cast demands more. That’s why they try to lock them in a 3 picture deal or something up front. I bet in the case of National Treausre they were somewhat caught off guard to how big it was.

Nicolas Cage then could command more for his paycheck and script approval (also why we’re still waiting on a Sherlock Holmes 3).

Nicolas Cage today would probably do a sequel for cheaper though lol

Looks like Tom Holland is going to be the back to back double feature at the Box office with Uncharted and Spider-Man No Way Home

I think I'm definitely going to check this out next weekend. I'm too big a fan of the games to be deterred by the reviews.

My father and I are seeing this Tuesday. I've seen a few clips posted on social media here and there. Looks like whatever, hoping it's fun at least.

I really can't believe that
the scene we all knew would be the ending with the stupid mustache tease is actually a post credit scene. Leave it to Sony to basically market an entire after credit scene :lmao:
