M$ will soon release an upadte for the X360 that includes giving the console the ability to display content (Games and HD-DVD Video) at 1080p.

...naturally I spent nine minutes trying to figure out just how a console with no HDMI out would gain 1080p output with a software update.

Kim was clear that the console could support true 1080p out.

"If it is running at 720p we will up-res it to 1080p, if it it's already 1080p then we can display it in 1080p," he said. " This is a great example of our console's ability and the great advantage of being a software company."

Kim said that while the console will soon support 1080p out, it will not have an HDMI out.

"We have the ability to output either through VGA or component. We have no HDMI announcement now," he said. "We do have the capability to deliver the software and, if needed, the hardware."

Nothing that important to me really since my display is 702p Native.
SONY just lost another exclusive point tough.

Some highlights from the MICROSOFT confrence ...

* Drive launching in Japan on on 11/22 at a price 19,800 yen.
* The Xbox 360 to recieve software upgrade this fall for 1080p support.
* Sakaguchi showed off Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, played each for about 10 minutes live.
* Lost Planet trailer, Trusty Bell gameplaye footage shown.

Weren't all the X-Box fans stating 1080p wasn't even important when Sony was using it as a trump card?

EXACTLY......AND 'MS' JUST PROVED TO THE WORLD HOW INSIGNIFICANT IT TRULY IS ; IT'S POSSIBLE WITH A SIMPLE SOFTWARE PATCH.

OF COURSE, YOU CAN COUNT ON 'SONY' TO ANNOUNCE THAT "IT'S NOT TRUE 1080P, WITHOUT HDMI, AND THE POWER OF 'PS3'. ". ;)

It wont be true HD, they'll just upscale and stretch the image.

LOL......NO, THAT WOULD BE POINTLESS.

Topdawg's just being an idiot again and doesn't understand how game engines work on a fundmental level.

You have no clue how HD resolutions work, do you?

Wait, I just looked at who I'm quoting.

M$ have made it clear that the only resolution that really matters this gen was 720p.

They are only releasing the patch so sony cant contunue the B.S of being the only real HD console.

Topdog: I'm not big on this technology talk, but come on, think about it.
They won't "stretch the image" and say it's now 1080 or whatever, that's just preposterous and you know it.

It also depends on the size of the screen, if they upscale it the pixels wil stretch.
if anyone has a screen smaller than 40inch, its just 720p.

If anyone has like a 42-60 inch screen it wont be TRUE HD.

TOPDOG - They wont stretch the image at all...

"If it is running at 720p we will up-res it to 1080p, if it it's already 1080p then we can display it in 1080p,"

Physical screen size has nothing to do with resolution.

The only important thing is the NATIVE RESOLUTION of the display panel. This Native Resolution for the majority of "HD-TV READY' sets is 720p. about 5% of newer HD-TV Sets have a Native Resolution of 1080p.

Really? Would they even need to up-convert. I mean 80% of the 360 games can output 1920x1080 images. Just built in one pass instead of half and half.

With what? The real difference between 1080i and 1080P? That's simple, frames per second. 1080i puts out 60 half frames per second (for a max of 30 frames per second). 1080P puts out 60 (and up) full frames per second.

Oh, thanks a lot.
It wasn't that though, I meant that if someone would explain to Topdog would Microsoft would not just "stretch the image" in more technically correct lingo.

YEah I read it as well, I guess this means that the Xbot FUD spreaders trying to claim flagging issues will shut up now. Though, like the core PS3, this alledgedly won't be a long term solution without the HDMI port. But that's years away anyway.

110 titles? I'm pretty sure Sony will have more, there will be over 500 titles at TGS this year.
