YEah I read it as well, I guess this means that the Xbot FUD spreaders trying to claim flagging issues will shut up now. Though, like the core PS3, this alledgedly won't be a long term solution without the HDMI port. But that's years away anyway.

110 titles? I'm pretty sure Sony will have more, there will be over 500 titles at TGS this year.

BUT 'SONY' HAS 'PS2' AND 'PSP' TITLES INCLUDED IN THEIRS.......AND THEY DON'T COUNT, IN THIS RACE. :o

For component, you get gaming up to 1080p, and 1080i for HD DVD. DVD only works at 480p over this connection. The latter two are due to restrictions in DVD CCA and AACS rules for DVD and HD DVD playback respectively.

1080p is supported over VGA for DVD, HD DVD and gaming output. And yes, AACS does allow 1080p over VGA (classified under authorized "computer monitor outputs").

Microsoft can't just violate the AACS guys!

Microsoft is known for shady business dealings, this is no surprise. It's ridiculous to restrict the ouput like that anyways.

They play by them!

loosely...:o

MORE LIKE THEY BREAK THE RULES, AND REWRITE THEM TO SUIT THEIR NEEDS.......AFTER FINES AND COURT COSTS, OF COURSE. :o

They're currently brawling with the European Commission over the release of Vista. I'd like to see the Commission slap another massive fine on them for their arrogance.

They can ***** and moan all they want, but Vista will end up getting released when Microsoft says it's ready and exactly as Microsoft wants to release it. This isn't exactly the first time that Microsoft and it's crack legal team have heard the word "anti trust", and the idea of going after the security components in Vista, something that really isn't an anti-trust issue, but leaving all the other stuff alone, is just laughable. The Euro commission is useless.

Microsoft themselves have bemoaned the interference by the Commission might set back the European launch of Vista, and in fact cost some jobs.

Of course, it's all part of their campaign to bad mouth the EC, and was met with some widespread criticism. They're still trying to fight the EC over the last fine and conditions imposed upon them over Article 82, and it's a fight they'll lose.

An explination...

http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/09/21/xbox-360-hd-dvd-playback-maximum-1080i-via-component-1080p-vga/

If your 360 is hooked up via component cables:

* Xbox 360 games can be upscaled to 1080p. Titles that run in 1080p natively (none of which currently exist) will also display without a problem.
* HD-DVDs will display at 1080i maximum -- you can thank AACS for that.
* Normal DVDs will play at 480p. CSS prevents anything higher (though some upscaling DVD players conveniently ignore it).

If your 360 is hooked up via VGA cable:

* HD-DVDs, Upscaled DVDs and games can all display at 1080p with no copyright hassles.

If your 360 is hooked up via RF Adapter:

* You have bigger problems.
