the suit doesnt do him any justice, that high neckline and short shorts gives the visual impression of being slender. If they opened up the collar like on Reeve's suit you probably wouldnt be hearing people say things like this.
And people were telling me this stuff would never be coming up and asking me if I could see into the future. It was obvious. The thing is Warners wanted this stupid muscle suit, and they made Routh lose weight for it based on some survey they did with non comic book people. I saw a pic in 2003 of Routh, during Ratners turn, and it was from the MTV show. He was bigger, and his face was fatter, and he looked a bit older, and more like Reeve, and more like Superman. I wished they had let him bulk up to what he was in college. Oh well. And it was so obvious this stuff was going to come up, this and the other articles about him being the banned word. I feel bad for Routh as:

A. He can get big and now no matter what this muscle suit thing is going to plague him.

B. People are questioning his sexuality when he is most definately "not the banned word". Have you seen his ex girlfriend. I saw her on a cable show where she played a spokesperson for a beer company and I was like "DAMN. Routh is the man!" No matter what he can bang his chest anytime for having gotten that girl.

If he put on more weight, he'd bust the seams on the already made million dollar suits..

Well theres always the sequel.

I never quite saw it as an hourglass though, except in one picture.

The thing is, its not exactly a muscle suit per say. If he wore the suit without the enhancements, there would be no definition, it wouldnt show through the blue suit.

The enchancements in the suit simply add the definition so its visible though the material.

Oh right. I forgot about that. The suit was already made before they cast Routh. But how could that be because Singer said he made the changes to the suit based on the person playing it. HE LIED again. I am calling the cops.

And the hight collar is because of the muscle suit. The guy who made it told Sanday Collora that they had to do that because of the muscle suit. So is the size of the Shield. It is becasue he wanted the 3D shield. I know, the costume designer said he always wanted a small S. But Singer himself said they tried a bigger S, but that was as big as they could make it and still keep it 3d without it folding. Bronson confirmed that in the interview. He said they couldnt get it any bigger and still be 3D.

As for the shorts so low, yeah it does really detract to his size appearance. Look at many of the manips that people made with the shorts higher and the longness goes away. One of the things the costume designer at the Christamass party at in LA last december picked apart the costume for. She said it went against every thing you do to make someone appear bigger.

I for one love the suit. It is a nice update for the 21st century, and I hope they also use it on Smallville when the time comes.

i hope not. not that the suit is bad, but that welling will never be superman in my eyes. never.

The suit was designed on paper before they cast Routh. They made it to fit him when he was first cast.

Over the months that passed, Routh went to put on 20 pounds of muscle. Apparently he couldnt put on anymore than that or the suit wouldnt fit, and they would have wasted millions on these costumes.

For the sequel however, he has enough time to put on more weight beforehand, before he is measured for his new suit.

Routh should really work out his lower body more for the sequel. He looks kinda top heavy in some pictures.

Agreed.

But anyways, they wont get the rights to use it anyways. The thing is a modernized well done suit that doesnt look corny takes lots and lots of money to make (maybe near a million), I dont think its in the show's budget to do all that just to have him wear it for a few seconds. I think they'll get a shirt-rip if anything.

:p Consider it an attempt to look like the TAS Superman. Now all he needs is a deformed jaw like a pelican.

I believe they are going to be keeping the same design. REmember, they did a survey on it with non superhero fans, IE-the everyday woman, to see what was sexually attractive to them and what wasn't.

And I believe they are going to go with this suit for all of the films as like Batman to keep continuity, so we are stuck with this thing.

Oh I talked to my freind in Cali who used to be a video game designer for a big game company company. A few of her friends got hired by a couple of the effects companies, and one of her friends worked on the digital effects crew for SR. She said he told her they digitally reduced Routh's package. I told her I understood that to be just a rumor, and was supposedly debunked. She told me "No. They wanted it to be debunked because it was causing a stir on the internet, but that they did do it. Her friend knows the guys who worked on it and would went into their are when they were doing it." Take it for what it is worth. It is uncomfirmed, but this girl has never lied to me.

I for one don't think it needed to be modernized. It is the suit that most peopel recognized and it caused such a stir when it was released. Hell they even reported it in Chinese newspapers how bad it looked. And this is communist china.

really? from that first official pic of routh in the suit, his legs were gigantic! i guess the trailers make him look a little top heavy.

His legs look just too long and slender to me. I just think he needs to bulk them up a little bit. The legs are the source of true strength ya know.

His legs look wider as they shot it with a wide anlge lense looking up. That is why a lot of models hate wide angle lenses. It makes their legs big, and they have been known to get into arguements with photogs over it.

I always love a girl with nice, thick, athletic thighs...........

Oh wait. Brandon Routh discussion. Yes. Back to it. My bad!

Compare Routh's build to Tobey Maguire's. Routh is bigger obviously, but they both have a lean slender look, and that's what Warner Bros was going for. They want this movie to be as successful as Spider-man. For SR to do that, it has to appeal to kids in a BIG way. The phisique that Rotuh and Maguire have is perfect because it won't scare away the kids. Any more muscle and the appeal would be lost. I'm not a kid but I think Routh's body is absolutely perfect and beautiful. Any more muscle would be distracting and unnecessary.

The reality is they did a survey with a bunch of chicks who know nothing of Superman to see what women find too big and too small as far as sex appeal. That is why we got what we got and Routh was not allowed to get as big as he could.

And Spiderman has always been drawn a lot leaner than Superman. He was never huge huge like Superman, and McGuire has the Spiderman body.

Ya know, I love giving a girl a good massage it just gets them feeling good and relaxed ya know. Rub her thighs a little bit, relieve the tension in her back, graze her neck with your lips, memorize every muscle twitch.....

Oh damn. I did it again. Back to Routh, man in tights. Sorry. It won't happen again I promise.

Routh has just enough size to be convincing. That should be good enough. The suit makes him look like he is ripped to the core, so you can't harp on the issue to much.

Pics like this make me realize that the suit would look good in the comics...and they only ***** because they are *used to* the "classic look" of the Reeve era.

Meh...who cares either way. I prefer my Superman depicted as skinny anyhow, cuz really, hows a dude who can bench press a planet gonna workout enough to be buffed up? Really, his strength comes from the Sun, so it doesn't matter how muscular he is.

That's a good point Buggs. Sex appeal was also a factor. And contrary to some guys' belief, most women don't like huge muscled guys.

I get the point of this article, but they make Christopher Reeves seem like a bodybuilder . . . seriously   WTF!!?? Are they looking at the same Christopher Reeves we are? He was NOT a brawny, bulky-built man in any sense . . . . I would say that Routh is a little bulkier than him, even . . . and the remarks about the older versions of Supes being bulky . . . don't they mean . . . . a little pudgy?

The only buff Supes we've ever seen is the comic interpretation of him, or Dean Cain being the bulkiest on screen embodiment. . . . I just don't get it . . . .
