Agreed.

Seeing him in the Weapon X gear going beserk for those few minutes made up for that lousy Origins sequence. They even had his hair right. That moment with Jean didn't seem as creepy as it should have been either, considering their age difference.

Did he need to be there? Probably not. Do I complain when I get to see my mutant boyfriend on screen? Hell no. :oldrazz:
 
Could any of you gauge audience reactions? There were a lot of people who clapped at the end during my screening

Hank said time is immutable, once the "ripples" settle in the water, the natural current of a river will continue on its path and whatever is meant to happen will happen (Weapon X, Dark Phoenix).. maybe Xavier was right to place mental blocks on Jean because another theme in X-Men is that, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" so Jean will become "Dark" no matter what.. Xavier's mental blocks only delay the inevitable.

When we found out that the Stryker who fished Logan out in DOFP was Mystique, it was a twist, and a proof that the events have been changed. So years later, Stryker still got Logan for his Weapon X program anyway. What was the point of that twist? If Singer did not add that twist, would it have changed anything in XMA?

Why is it a twist? It was about Raven and the beginning of her journey of rescuing mutants which continued for ten years up until Apocalypse. It wasn't about Logan. He got captured by Stryker some time after she parted ways with him.

This is like the end of X-Men 1, she was impersonating Kelly and we saw more of this continuation in X2. Circumstances were different but it's the same idea. It's not a twist at all but to show Raven's new path.

We didn't need that scene to make us believe whether Mystique has been helping mutants or not in XMA. Singer could have left that scene out entirely since it has no relevance now that we know Stryker captured Logan anyway.

yeah people can come up with all the head-canon they want, but that scene at the end of DOFP either needed to be dropped in that movie, or addressed in this one
 
The X-men comics have trained me well at ignoring continuity contradictions and errors or huge wholes.

True fans would applaud the movies for continuing to be comic accurate in this portrayal of jacked up continuity.
 
They obviously changed plans and decided to make Mystique more of a heroic character.
 
Just saw this. I was enjoying the opening in Egypt well enough. I also liked the entrance of Apocalypse to Storm, and then the introduction of Magneto and Cyclops. However, the film overall did not really grab me besides one particular scene with Magneto. I'd say the movie was a bit forgettable and nothing really wowed me. I'll give a little list of my positives, negatives, and then the stuff in the middle.

Positive: Cyclops and Nightcrawler were the stand-outs.
Magneto, with his heart-wrenching family scenes, was great
Always love Prof. X
Interesting opening in Egypt

Stuff that was alright: Sophie Turner was pretty good as Jean, but I didn't like her as much as Scott or Kurt.
Apocalypse was occasionally intimidating, and his costume from the neck down was cool
Some of the humor landed, but nothing was laugh-out-loud funny to me
Seeing Wolverine mess up some soldiers was pretty good

Negatives: Moira Mactaggert- she was just there to be there I guess? Every time they cut to her during the final battle (or really any time), I was stifling a laugh.
Speaking of Moira, the romance between her and Prof X felt a bit forced to me, and I honestly wasn't that interested.
Mystique- I felt like Jennifer Lawrence was uninterested in giving Mystique any sort of zest or pop. She seemed bored the whole time.
The final battle was just sad. In fact, the action in the film was all fairly flat. There was a lot of wasted potential there for some really cool battles.
Something about that Wolverine cameo was a bit off. Felt goofy to me. And then especially when he's running off into the cold.
Psylocke and Angel- need I say more? Complete wastes.
Storm- she fared better than Psylocke and Angel, but not by much
Apocalypse's voice started to grate on me at times. His constant shouting was getting on my nerves.
Another thing that really disappointed me, and it was something I was looking forward to, was Quicksilver's speed scene. The scene right before that one was very serious, and then it just cuts to this completely goofy Quicksilver scene. Totally killed any tension I was feeling. And felt like a bit of an insult to what had just happened.

I'd give the movie a 6/10 overall, because there was definitely some good there.
 
Moira is central to the story, she has her memory hidden by Charles. She end putting light on a old mutant (a memory), it is only when Charles accept to let go of his control over woman that Apocalypse is defeated by a sun (cyclic construction).

Here's a video showing how deaths in X-Men flip flop and how continuity is kind of a joke in the X-Men (comics and films) universe.
 
Just got done watching it. It certainly wasn't as horrible as reviews were saying but it was a step down from DoFP.

The horsemen were useless apart from Magneto, all of them followed Apocalypse so blindly that they just seemed like generic bad guys. All they did was stand around.
Ororo was REALLY wasted. I didn't understand why Apocolypse took advantage of Mags powers but not the mutant who controls weather and can freeze the world over, cause tornadoes, hurricanes, etc...

While we know why Psylock at the costume she did (because of comics) in the movie it made no sense. Storm/Angel/Magneto looked like a group with variations of the same costume and then there is just Betsy, standing there in her high heeled ninja bathing suit.

Jean/Scott/Kurt were all used decently.

I am just over Mystique, she isn't a BAD character but I just can't enjoy her as she is.

None of the fight scenes really stood out to me, ok maybe in the beginning w/Angel v Nightcrawler.

Quicksilver continued to get a very funny standout scene.

7/10.
 
I actually loved the film. It wasn't perfect but I felt like this is the X-Men movie that I always wanted to see but never got until now.
 
My friends and I laughed our butts off because it was utterly ridiculous most of the time, but we all enjoyed it for that reason. There's some really good stuff smushed around in here but it's mostly big dumb unoffensive schlock. It felt the most X-Men an X-Men movie has been yet, for better or for worse.

Even as someone who didn't love the movie, I can see why you guys say it's the most X-men-y. lol. It definitely does have more of a team element than the last two. And it was more colorful and comic-bookish.
 
I dont think its because it was colorful or comic booky.
First :
The movie like focused on the X-men, the X-men were presented and mattered. The World needed the X-men and it was evident.

Second:
Charcterization.
There was accurate characterization. Cyclops was Cyclops, JEan was Jean. Nightcrawler was nightcrawler. Even more beautiful was we go to see the young versions struggling with their demons throughout the movie in a way that was parralleled from the comics.

Cyke, all the turmoil, angst and lack of control
Jean Gray - Phoenix issue, nuff said
Nightcrawler - happy go lucky guy, that has most to complain about in terms of fitting it, but his joy is infectious and we dont know where he gets it.
Beast - Genius, calculated, tactical.

And the young core even got an Arc, like an arc we saw them develop. IT was GLOOOOOOOORIOUS

then the final battle?
NC taking out ArcAngel?
Super Phoenix?
combined attack on Apocaylpse?


aw man im geeking about it like Dash at the end of avengers- er i mean incredibles.
