Apocalypse Users Rate, Review, and React to X-Men: Apocalypse (TAG SPOILERS) - Part 1

A horrified Stan Lee watching as missiles get launched lol. Although it is awesome his wife got to cameo!

Lol, I like all cameos by Stan Lee whether he's being funny or serious.

And I liked your review of the movie, by the way. I agree with what you and others have said about the emotional core and the heart of this movie and of Singer's X-Men movies in general. It's one of my favorite things about them, and I'm planning to see Apocalypse again this weekend.

Thanks! It's a consistent emotional core that I was happy to see play out over three movies. I'm very excited to see what new emotional core they can build and develop over the next set.

Nice review. I don't think anyone in my theatre knew how to react to the Stan Lee cameo. His cameos are usually light hearted, so when he comes on you expect to laugh. But this cameo was... serious acting? A horrified Stan Lee watching as missiles get launched lol. Although it is awesome his wife got to cameo!

Just like a lot of the film, the tone of this moment was inappropriate given the scene. I like a good Stan Lee cameo--Civil War and Deadpool are just wonderful. "Are you Tony...Stank?" :funny:

But this was a very serious moment in X:A, and seeing someone who is typically the comic relief in a serious bit is really distracting. It kind of symbolizes what, at the core, is wrong with X:A--the ingredients are there for a great film but they are not served up in an appropriate way.

In Last Stand Xavier transfer is counscioucness to another body, premiss to Apocalypse, Erik speaking like a preacher in the church, ...god i love those links and echo

Finally got round to seeing this last night. Felt the whole thing was a bit 'meh' to be honest.

The leads gave good performances, as always, but it just felt to me like re-treading old ground - once again there's a focus on whether Magneto has good left in him, and whether the X-men can be confident in themselves and be a team of heroes.

I felt that Apocalypse sold his plan (pretty much decimating the Earth) to his horsemen much too easily, and on that note, asides from Magneto the other 3 Horsemen seemed a bit wasted.

The final third of the film just felt like lots of Magneto hovering in the air and Apocalypse standing around and shouting out great monologues about ruling the world. It honestly just felt like they were going through the motions.

I still haven't seen it, but I think the general public has a very blase feeling about the franchise. I think it's time to stop the ride and maybe do a hard reboot. Wait a few years and really craft a hell of a movie, a revolutionary comic book movie. Too bad it'll never happen.

I'd love for X-men to stand apart from other franchises by doing things the old fashioned way. One movie every three years. Make it an event. Get excellent actors, don't cram in a million characters, and don't rely on teen unknowns to pull of characters that need gravitas. Take a break and come back at it fresh and with a chip on your shoulder, Fox.

I finally had some free time on my hands and was able to catch a matinee screening of this movie yesterday. I went by myself, as my decision to go was impromptu.

Do I think it's a great movie? No. Do I think it's a bad movie? No. Do I think it was a "meh" movie? Actually ... No.

I liked it. Maybe that's because I went in with lower expectations after all the things I had heard about it, but I found myself having a good time with the movie. There are quite a few little things that I think could have been changed to heighten the film's overall quality (a thing that has been plaguing the X-Men movies altogether, if you ask me), but I also really quite liked what the movie did right.

I was one of the perturbed people about Mystique being in the front and center of it all (because of JLaw, and whatnot), but I actually loved how they progressed her story. There was a reason why she became the "leader" that I completely bought, in my opinion. I thought her story was really well-done.

And, of course, I will always love Michael Fassbender as Magneto. He was great in this movie, once again. Yes, it was cliched that he became a "bad guy" again, but the way in which the movie approached it? It actually got to me. [blackout]The scene with Magneto's wife and daughter being killed[/blackout] actually sparked an emotional response from me in the theater (I *almost* cried).

With the finale, I actually enjoyed most of the action. This is the best showcase of the X-Men working as a TEAM in the movies, in my honest opinion. Finally. And I did mark out a little bit with the costume reveals at the end of the movie. I thought they looked great (especially Mystique and Cyclops)!

I would say that my biggest gripe about the movie was Storm. I thought the actress did a fine job, but the writing for her, man ... Doing her comic book origins would have been fantastic, and I think it could have totally worked with her motives to be one of the Horsemen. I think they dropped the ball on something that could have been totally awesome.

Overall, I liked this movie. I still find it to be better than a good chunk of the X-Men movies, that's for certain. Is it a favorite of mine? Heck no, but it's a movie that I'll be happy to revisit. And I think this new X-Men "Trilogy" is definitely better than the previous one. Easily.

My ranking of the X-Men movies: Deadpool>>>X-Men: First Class>X-Men: Days of Future Past>X2: United>X-Men: Apocalypse>X-Men>The Wolverine>X-Men: The Last Stand>>>>>>>>>>>>X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Saw it again last night with my partner, who hadn't had chance to see it before. It was my third viewing.

Really enjoyed it, was able to pick up a lot I had missed or forgotten from previous viewings.

On the negative side, my partner said it was the only film where the make-up was noticeably sub-standard - referring to Mystique and the Apocalypse close-up shots; and that the story/pacing dragged in places.

I thought the green screen looked fine, I'm still not sold on the look of Hoult's Beast, Apocalypse had some unconvincing moments.

Finally watched this. Normally I'm very harsh on the X films. I wasn't impressed by what I saw for this during promotion and thought the trailers were ok. I thought FC was good/ok and DoFP was a huge let down.

This, however, was excellent. I dare say its my favorite and the best X film to date. Could it have been tighter in some spots? Sure, but for my standards on the X films this was very, very enjoyable. I am actually looking forward to where they take this franchise now.

8.5/10
