Got back from an 11am showing and while not as good as DOFP I still found it entertaining, the second act was a bit underwhelming but Quicksilver as usual steals the movie and as I'm an 80's kid the song chosen was perfect during his scene.

I normally find Wolverine way overrated but thankfully his scenes had adequate screentime. From the post credit im guessing the next movie villain is [blackout]Mr. Sinister[/blackout]?

Man, I liked it! Not sure why everyone seems to be disliking it. Apocalypse wasn't really that good of a villian though, IMO

While I've never cared for Jubilee I don't see why she was so heavily shown in the movie marketing if she didn't even use her powers.

Even as someone who didn't love the movie, I can see why you guys say it's the most X-men-y. lol. It definitely does have more of a team element than the last two. And it was more colorful and comic-bookish.

I'll agree to that. I definitely want to see those costumes in the final scene reappear in the next X-Men film and I really want Wolverine to wear either yellow and black or yellow and brown in Wolverine 3.

As for who should play Wolverine next... Emile Hirsch. He can grow some sick mutton chops, is good at tough guy roles and he's also only 5'7 and that's around the same height Logan is in the comics.

I just got back from seeing it

Pros

Opening Egypt sequence was very cool.

If you were wondering how the new kids handle themselves, you have little to fear.
Jean, Cyclops, Nightcrawler do a great job.
Kurt is more lighthearted and a jokester like his uncanny xmen and Xmen evo self yet still has his staunch Catholicism.
Cyclops is somehwat James Dean and not a pushover;he has some good power scenes.
If youre a Jean Grey fan, IMO she is the best portrayed. The smallest of seeds of her relationship are planted as well as her potential for her power growth.

Xavier's thirst for Moira (Its funny)

Humor is good overall.

Mcavoy and his warmth/care for the kids early in the film

Fassbender in general and especially Magnus in the forest scene- DEM FEELS

Quicksilver mansion scene is awesome!. His wacky/goofy vibe is still on point from DOFP

CAMEO is good and homages Barry windsor smith.

The level of violence in the film is raised.

Caliban's bit part had a lot of character (hes more FRench quirky than social recluse quirky)

Astral plane sequence

How apocalypse is defeated and his final line.

the last 5 minutes of the film - What a tease

Mixed

Apocalypse look is ok, nothing special.
While it was interesting to see him as a cult leader/twisted patriarch, his sense of grandeur was limited.
In some scenes, he comes across terrifying and some he comes across unintentionally goofy.
Not really Oscars fault, but the costume limits his perfromance.

Storm is in the film very little.
However we see her classic Cairo, street urchin ways and her accent is on point.
She exudes a strong fierceness and is MUCH closer to Storm in the classic uncanny xmen.
Halle Berry 3/10 storm Alex Shipp - 8/10. Chris Claremont would be happy.

Bad

The film plays like it has a long first act, a miniscule 2nd act, and a long third act.
There are too many subplots and characters get lost in the scuffle.

Jlaw alternates between barking out lines to acting like she was on barbituates the other time

While It makes sense in the context of the story, the young kids "hero worship" of Mystique leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

The horseman unfortunately save magnus get little to do-emphasis on angel and Psylocke.

Like Avengers AOU, a serious scene has no weight, due to it taking right before the Quicksilver sequence.

While CAMEO was cool, the scenes required to set it up take 20 some minutes and I think that time could have been used more efficiently

The stupid joke about third film being worst. Jean really is a precog.

After the excellent First Class music score and very good music DOFP score, XMA music is just ok.

Grade: 7.5/10 Good, but not great.

In relation to other films this year:

Civil War 9/10
Deadpool 8.5/10
XMA 7.5
BatmanVSupes 6/10

Overall XCU:

DOFP - 9/10
First Class/Deadpool -tie 8.5
X2 - 8/10
XMApoc 7.5
X1/wolverine 2 -7/10

Dog poop

X3 - 6/10
XOrigins Wolverine 4/10

7/10

Could have been better, could have been worse. The trailers looked like what the movie turned out to be for me.

Just "okay."

It is enjoyable for sure, and worth watching/owning and whatnot. I am not the type who thinks every sequel needs to "be better" than the previous. I am okay as long as it is not facepalm, headshaking bad. And this wasn't. I feel some things really could have been changed or tweaked and it would have been even better.

X2 and Days of Future Past remain my favorite.

I thought it was pretty good. Some of the cgi was a little dodgy and the final battle was a little goofy. I also thought Apocalypse looked ok but his lines were a little too goofy at times. The cast is wonderful though and the Weapon X stuff was great.

After the excellent First Class music score and very good music DOFP score, XMA music is just ok.
Yeah that would be John Ottman who's only good contribution music wise is a great X-Men theme but for my tastes I prefer John Powell on X3 and Henry Jackman on XMFC.

Put this in the wrong thread. Uh-oh. Here we go:

Just saw it. Wow! What a great experience. It's an X-Men movie and it's not afraid to be an X-Men movie.

One thing that I wanted to mention that I haven't seen elsewhere. Singer is very good at transitions. I loved it when Magneto starts talking about that he doesn't have a family anymore and then it transitions to Quicksilver being detained at Alkali Lake. Singer did this a couple of times elsewhere too. I dig that kind of storytelling visually.

Ultimately, it played like a deeper and more fleshed out version of an episode from the 90's. It made me giddy!

Pros:

McAvoy and Fassbender were awesome, as usual. Turner and Sheridan were perfect. Reminded me exactly of younger versions of Jannsen and Marsden. Peters is Quicksilver. Enough said.

I liked Lawrence in this. I think this is her best movie in the series.

I know this may be weird and random but I really liked tha actor who played Caliban. It was very brief, but he made an impression on me.

Issac was great!! He was Apocalypse from the comics. The dude from the comics always just spouts off nonsense about how everyone is weak and he needs to make the world stronger. That is what makes him....well, him. And the dude hates to fight. He likes others to do that too, so I didn't mind that he kind of avoided a lot of physical fighting.

Speaking of fighting, i'm really glad that Singer didn't make this a slugfest. His style is character moments and this movie had those over a climax that was about battles. I like that more.

Indifferent:

I'm ok with the Horseman not getting a ton of development. There is enough there to get their motivations and to understand their sense to belong. Was enough for me. X-Men comics and cartoons always have characters go in and out. It fit in that way.

Apocalypse's make-up was great for the most part. It just was a little distracting on super close-up shots. But I'm so glad they went with an actor instead of a special effect.

I give this an 8 out of 10 X's.

Oh, and Ottman's music was perfect. Best overall in the series!!

It's been a long time since I saw a movie that was so unexpectedly good.

Is it a technical or cinematic masterpiece? No. Is it fun and was it the first x-men movie to make me feel like a kid again (capturing elements from the animated series for good measure)? Imo absolutely.

Just saw the film. Loved it. Working on a review but I have a question...
The original 4 horseman were a blast. Loved watching them. The opening scene with them was mind blowing. (Who were they? The lady was Telekinetic or so it seemed. Everything was happening so fast I could tell what the others powers were) Does anyone know who they were?

Ok so I've been lurking on these forums for quite awhile now, saw the movie a week ago and was really dissapointed. Growing up with the 90s cartoon I felt that the cartoon apocalypse is still way better than in the movie.
The only scene where apocalypse was like he should be was in the
missile launch scene with the whole speech 'http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1209966/?ref_=tt_trv_quYou can fire your arrows from the Tower of Babel, but you can never strike god!
After that scene the movie just went to down, the scene with
them being kidnapped by Stryker felt totally uneccesary
In the final scene Apocalypse didn't even use his powers of shapeshifting (as in, turning his arms into guns, increasing in size)
The whole ragdoll scene with quicksilver, just really ruined it for me

I think it may have been talked about but I wonder why they didn't have Xavier actually seek out the OT3. Wolvy made sure to tell X about them but apart from Jean he just forgot about the other 2 even though in the original timeline they were his first students.

Just saw it and this was not a good film. Its getting panned and it deserves it. Its ironic how Singer threw shade at The Last Stand with Jean's line about the third film not being as good when this is easily the worst of the current trilogy. Like TLS, this film was all about having great action sequences and set pieces but the actual plot was weak. Apocalypse gets points though bc the characters were written better and the actors helped make up for alot of its shortcomings.

If I had to score it, Id give it a 6. I kind of regret seeing it as this could have waited till a home release

Well technically he already had jean at the school, cyclops powers had only just switched on and havok brought him to the school at that point and wolverine should have known not to call storm... storm because chances are she wasn't going by that code name ;p

I do have 2 criticisms:

1) Quicksilver's scene was brilliant. Just oddly placed. We had this great dramatic showdown and then everything switched to goofy. Too weird of a combo.

2) Beast is terrible. Hoult was fantastic in Mad Max, but he just is not a good Beast. I don't really recognize his character. It's weird because he has talked about studying what Grammer did, but he hasn't executed that. Beast is 1 of my favorite characters and here he has been reduced to just the smart, nerd guy. Beast is supposed to be funny with his intellect. There is nothing of that here. However, the writing and direction could be at fault as well.

saw it last night and i enjoyed it. not as good as DOFP, but still a very solid movie. definitely a lot of stand out moments and performances, especially from Fassbender.

my score - 8/10

Just saw the movie. I enjoyed it. It had its problems but it felt more like the X-Men than previous films.

I loved how they showed materials moving in a magnetic field pattern. I'm amazed it took them so many movies to do that. "that" scene in the forest was good, but I felt like it was cheapened and used only as a way to get Magneto back to his old self for the plot instead of an important life changing moment for the character.

The classic X-Men suits were awesome. Wish we saw more of it.

The cameo was great. Nuff said.

There was a surprising amount of body horror shots in the film. It's cool to see the X films try to push their PG-13, kid friendly envelope.

One quick question:

What the hell did Apocalypse say before he died? I didn't catch it.

I think Hoult did well, but the problem is that they don't really give him much to work with; it seems like they don't know what to do with the character though I liked seeing him take on a more leadership and aggressive/proactive role in the final battle.

Maybe someone caught this or knows?

The original 4 horseman were a blast. Loved watching them. The opening scene with them was mind blowing. (Who were they? One Lady created force fields or so it seemed. Everything was happening so fast I could tell what the others powers were) Does anyone know who they were?

They're just Death, Pestilence, War and Famine. No specific character from any comic or cartoon...
