Comics USM Death of Spider-Man

I stopped buying USM around the 50's issues, thank god this turkey is dead.

I'll never understand that: "Thank God something I don't read and doesn't effect me is over!"

Yes, I agree, unless you're just dying for that creative team to be on something else it really couldn't effect you in any way, especially since this is just an alternate universe story of the character and can't even effect the main MU version in any way.

what I don't get is it was a meaningful because he saved aunt May and he could never save Uncle Ben......yeah, that's all well and good......but really he's saved May like....two dozen times already.....

THIS!

I've missed about 30 issues or so (I guess), and she had been saved by Spidey several times. What...since he died doing it this time, it's relevant? Urgh.

Anyways, I'm sad to see the Ultimate line begin its final march. Love it or not, the death of the flagship character from the clagship book is pretty much the beginning of the end. If they bring him back now, the comic loses all of its importance...especially after they tried to tell us Peter was dead after Ultimatum!! Not even 3 years ago!! Come on!

If they don't bring him back, those who refuse to read about a Spider-Man who isn't Peter Parker (Me and most everyone else), will bail. It's kind of lose-lose.

I hate to see it go, but I think I'm more hateful of what the Ultimate Universe became. I remember the moment it began to die. Ultimates. 3. Jeph. Loeb.

Either way, I'm enjoying the current direction of ASM (even if I hate the ride that got us here), and tha's where I'll be until they alienate me again.

OMG i have almost every last USM CB known to fans. Why do they have to kill him off!!! Why at the hands of the green Goblin?! He was Shot in the F***ing head!! :cmad:

I'm really pissed off about this, seriously.

What's ironic is in a sense Peter didn't "save" May at all. He doomed her to an unhappy existence. She's now lost a husband and a son (technically a nephew, but really a son in everything but blood). Any parent knows losing a child is something that's almost impossible to overcome. What does May do now? What does she have to live for? What Peter doesn't know is May would have switched places with him in a heart-beat. In a sense, Peter was being selfish by risking his life time and time again when his death would leave May with such an unbearable void. For her, this is probably many times worse than losing Ben, because Peter still had his whole life ahead of him and she had raised him since he was an infant.

I loved the issue though. Especially Norman's creepy smile at the end. Damn... the bad guy actually won.

I actually approve of the move as this is a jumping on point for me & it will finally give me a Spider-Man title to read. I'm one of the readers who left the character after OMD. And I never really got into Ultimate Marvel because it was just an alternate retelling of characters I was already happy with. I never really got the point of it. So it's sad that it has to be without Peter, but I will definitely check out the new title when it comes out later this year.

This.

And I feel this is the 1999 reboot all over again. Sure Peter died here instead of giving up like he did in 616. But we have a new series starting immediately after the original title ends, with a brand new Spider-Man in the costume. Readers are skeptical about the change being permanent.

-shakes head at some of the comments-
Tbh, while I'm not a big fn fo USM, I realyl think people shouldn't come in here and bash it if they don't like it. I mean, I barely ever go into an USM thread. Why? Because there are only certain qualities of the book that I liked. Therefore, there should be no reason for me to waste my time bashing something if I'm not a big fan fo it.

In a few months Ultimate May will make a Deal with Ultimate Mephesto and we'll have Ultimate Brand New Day and Peter will be back and all will be well.

Don't forget Ultimate One More Day and Ultimate Back in Black :woot:

Well dang... I can hardly believe they did it. Ultimate Spider-Man was always a huge title for me.

Back when it first came out I wasn't reading comics on any regular basis and I lived very far from any comic shops. I went into one while on a road trip and picked up the first three issues just to read something. It was one of the first modern comics I every read, until then I had mostly read old school stuff, I was instantly hooked. I didn't know comics could be so awesome. So I got a subscription until I moved closer to a comic shop and slowly started getting into other books.

And while the quality of USM began to decline in recent years I still loved the book like a child that grew up and got less cute. Given that, I'm kind of glad that it's over now and I won't have to keep buying. I'm tempted to give the relaunch a try but it'll have to knock my socks off to get me buy it regularly.

R.I.P. Ultimate Peter Parker.

Well, I bought it, read it, and it was actually pretty awesome.

It's sad that it ends like this. I haven't read the title sice issue 3 of the LAST relaunch, but it seems like everything went back to the way it was when I was reading it last (Peter with MJ, Gwen living in Peter's house, etc.). Bagley honestly sold the whole issue for me. He has MASTERED the conveying of emotion with these characters.

Peter going all out was awesome to behold. I really hope he's not dead or they bring him back. This issue reminded me of what I truly loved about the series way back. I'll probably pick up the hardcover of this storyline when it comes out to catch up on what I missed.

HOBGOBLIN- I actually had a discussion with someone the other day about how this was almost identical to the relaunch of ASM and PPSM back in '99. If the new Spidey is a girl, and Peter comes out of hiding after she is almost killed, I'll call shenanigans on the whole thing...and expect the series to be renumbered in 40 issues for the "mind-blowing 200th issue spectacular!!" :whatever:

The new is definitely going to be a girl and when the sales tank get ready for those shenanigans.

Comics are definitely recycling ideas these days. Look at the renumbering of all of the DC titles. Its the 1999 reboot all over again...for the entire DC company. It worked so well for the Amazing Spider-Man 12 years ago.

Yeah...I'm uneasy about this renumbering and rebooting thing. It's gone from them doing a title a year to doing several titles a year, or, in DC's case, their entire line of comics! I don't read many DCs, so it doesn't affect me too much. Still...I remember when it was a point of pride for a series to make it to a centennial...now, it's about "new" and "fresh". *sigh*

I think the relaunch of USM was the most disturbing. They relaunched it, and then they reset it within, what, 30 issues? Now, Action Comics hit 900 for DC....and they restart it at 1?! How about Detective Comics?! That just seems disrespectful to me.

Exactly. They just renumbered Wonder Woman, combining all of her various titles over the years so that she would be at 600 issues. Now she is back to #1. Everything is such a gimmick.

Personally, I've wanted to see comics turn the 1,000 issue mark. Well, I'm sure they'll pull another Wonder Woman and Amazing Spider-Man and go back to the original count again by that time.

Seriously I wonder who the new Spider-Man is going to be?
I'm betting on Gwen with the Carnage 'suit' back :woot: .

So who is the new Spider-Man? Maybe the female Peter clone with her front strapped down? Maybe Flash? Are those two still around? I've missed a lot of issues.
Spider-Woman is set to be a regular of the new team of Ultimates, so I don't think she will be the main character in the reboot. As for Flash, I hope not, the guy is a racist jerk, I won't be able to follow a book with him as the lead.

but really he's saved May like....two dozen times already.....
Not in the Ultimate Universe if memory serves, the most prominent probably being when he saved her from non-Venom Eddy Brock. Although we don't really know if he really wanted to hurt her.

What does May do now? What does she have to live for? What Peter doesn't know is May would have switched places with him in a heart-beat. In a sense, Peter was being selfish by risking his life time and time again when his death would leave May with such an unbearable void.
She still has Gwen, who she considers to be her daughter even if they don't have the history Peter and May had.
May came back to save him (anyone remembers the bullet that went through Electro's chest?), I think from that moment on he wasn't going to let anything happen to her.

That's probably why they went back to the original numbering in the first place, when they realized that their original plans for the Ultimate Universe after Ultimatum weren't going to stick : Millar had lost some of his magic, Loeb was constantly late, and the whole universe was basically being run by Bendis alone. So they went for a new plan, something more solid : new writers and artists who would be the architects of the relaunch, new series that are a lot more regular, etc.

Oh, no doubt about it. Even if they just renumber it for one issue, they would never miss out on the chance to lure everyone back for that all important big centennial issue! Then, like Action#900, they'll do something stupid like...I don't know...have Superman renounce his citizenship or something....:whatever:

the new Spider-Man is not going to be a girl ppl.....think about it..it wouldn't be called US-M anymore if it were a female.....we already have pics of the new Spider-Man online and CLEARLY it's not a female......

and Peter is dead. thats it. unless Bendis eventually decides to bring him back for some stupid reason, he is DEAD. they even said so themselves that in the ultimate universe when they say someone is dead, they are actually dead...and not coming back
