the new Spider-Man is not going to be a girl ppl.....think about it..it wouldn't be called US-M anymore if it were a female.....we already have pics of the new Spider-Man online and CLEARLY it's not a female......

and Peter is dead. thats it. unless Bendis eventually decides to bring him back for some stupid reason, he is DEAD. they even said so themselves that in the ultimate universe when they say someone is dead, they are actually dead...and not coming back

We thought that Mattie Franklin's Spider-Man was a man, too. We also thought that Norman Osborn was dead in the Ultimate universe.

true, but honestly i just feel that the new spider-Man is in fact going to be a man other wise they should name it to Ultimate Spider-Girl.

and this is a story thats been advertised and announced and countless times they have said to re assure fans that Ultimate Peter Parker is dead.
as for Norman they never said "oh yea for sure he is dead" they just messed around with him possibly being dead. But Ultimate Peter Parker is indeed dead. and NOT coming back

I'd be willing to bet teh new Ultimate Spider-Man is the Ultimate incarnation of Ben Reilly, who was introduced to us back in the Carnage saga. He has access to Peter's DNA, and helped Doc Ock form clones of Peter Parker. If anyone else could transfer Peter's powers to himself, it would be him. He was alluded to in the Ultimate Clone Saga as being the source of the clones...

That would cover the "the new Spider-Man is a black man" angle, and it would be "shocking". Also, it's someone indirectly affected by Spider-man enough over the years to be "inspired" by him.

Personally, that name carries a stigma with it that will cause me to definitely NOT buy the book. Still, hopeful for the best.

It's not just the "name"... it's the person... people WANT Peter Parker to be Spider-Man.... it's why the fans left after the Ben Reilly was the REAL Peter Parker back in the 90's... people were mad that the "Peter" they had read for 20 years was "fake"...

It was a solid book. Despite the confusion at the end of this book I really did like it. I honestly still can't wrap my head around how Peter saved Aunt May. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread...how is dying saving Aunt May from anything?

However, despite that confusion it was a great issue and, overall, a great story arc. Mark Bagley coming back for this arc was truly an awesome thing. Bagley was fitting and definitely brought his A game for this. A beautifully drawn book!

A name can kill a character, if the new spider-man was called Johnny McPedofile he wouldn't fly no matter how good the story. And for lots of people that would be better than ben reilly. Though it really doesn't matter, tis the end of the ultimate universe.

A lot of it has to do with some fans taking the book too seriously. I was there for the Clone Saga of the 90s and remember the backlash well. I loved and still love Ben Reilly and when they killed him off I stopped reading. Not just Spider-Man but all comics that is how angry and jaded I had become. I didn't read another comic for 4 years. Once I started buying again I decided if something gets that bad again to stop getting angry and jaded. Honestly, its just not worth the aggravation! So if something bugs me I drop it and i replace it with another title that looks awesome. Some people will hold grudges and not give something a fair shake because of their emotions and others just don't have time for the BS. Either way no one is right and no one is wrong it's just up to where you are mentally in what your buying habits are.

My main complaint would simply be, if you're going to make a NEW SPIDER-MAN, then make it someone COMPLETELY NEW. There's no need to use a character with a name that has a certain stigma attached to it like, I don't know, Ben Reilly, Miguel O'Hara, etc. Let's make a totally new Spider-Man not associated with any other, and have an all-original Ultimate Spider-man! Now THAT sounds interesting.

Ben Reilly as Spider-Man...people will always relate that to the clone.
Miguel O'Hara (who was awesome) will always cause people to think of Spidey 2099.

Now, if its *new character here*, then we have an exciting concept.

Since it's bendis the probability is 70% being some chick, 25% being ben reilly and 5% for luke cage. I don't see any other real chances.

I want a new exiles with miguel on the team. I'd love an exiles that was less X-Men orientated and more with just what if type stories featuring the whole of the MU. I also miss spider on the Exiles. That was a fun version of an evil Spider-Man.
