Valentine's day is a ways away, but of course there is already sappy paraphanalia lining the aisles of department stores, so I figure now's as good a time as any.

We all know that Valentine's day was basically started by companies that wanted to sell their goods, and the day is all about how much money you can spend if you're lucky enough to have someone, or how pathetic you can feel if you don't.

So, in the anti-spirit of the holiday, I would like you to post your worst experiences with dating or relationships, your sob story about how you're alone, or just general ranting.

I'm sure this will get buried soon, so I'll bump it during February.

Valentine's Day, for some of us, is actually enjoyable.

The only truly memorable Valentine's Day in my recent memory was 3 years ago, when I gave my (then) girlfriend a huge teddy-bear and 18 red roses. Sadly, that romance eventually failed, but I remain hopefully optimistic that a lasting relationship will soon head my way. As an alternative to the traditional "courters only" sentiment of the occasion, I've also started seeing various churches use the holiday to remind believers of Christ's love for his people.

Oh wow, we're not even into the year 2009 and we have an Anti-Valentine's Day thread already? I do have to admit that Valentine's Day really does suck if you don't have a significant other to share it with. It's no fun buying yourself chocolates, roses and teddy bears.

Valentine's day is about as useful as all of the other holidays. It gives me one more chance to buy some crappy gift to exchange with my lady meanwhile I get to hear everyone's love stories.

This year my wife and I aren't celebrating Valentine's day. We're spending our money wisely and working to pay off bills and debt.

I'm not very enthusiastic about Valentine's day. It's nice and all, giving someone you love something nice, but it's always much nicer to give it them on a day when it isn't required.

Valentine's Day on the Hype. LOL

it's only nice when you're with someone. Otherwise, if you're single, it's just another day.

It's not that I mind doing sh-- for someone, like buying them flowers or gifties and such, it's just I don't need a special day to do it. Valentine's Day kind of sucks. Barely two months after the massive gift giving Christmas and we get stuck with this Halmark Holiday. There is nothing meaningful about it. I still have to go to work. I still have to deal with day to day sh--. It's just all kinds of lame.

Meh, I don't care. I'm not seeing anyone special, just casually dating a couple people(meaning going out on dates, not behind each other's back, you sickos). Just give them each a teddy bear or some flowers and bada bing, I'm doin' it like Tony Soprano. :o

Last few years I would have selected option A. Now I'm in B city. :o

From the back? Swing both way? Hooking up with Erzengel?

*ohno*

I  Valentine's day

I agree with this, but that's when you pop the question.

Rear entry access:o

I like how NO one so far enjoys celebrating V-Day with their soulmate.

EDIT: Spoke too soon.

I've never received a gift on Valentines day, and someone close to me passed away on Valentines Day years ago so yeah, not my favorite day at all.

There were a few cool Valentine's Day(s) back in High School*, but I mean I don't (provided it's not a Saturday or Sunday) get to spend it with my significant other (if I gots one at the time) -- because I work until six o'clock and don't get home until about nine o'clock (because I work out after work) and then I have to go to bed by eleven. Wow...my big two hours . I mean I like my job, don't get my wrong, it's just that unless I get the Holiday off (which I don't) there really isn't a whole lot I can celebrate. Plus, I hate gift giving Holidays. I like socializing Holidays, like New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving and the Forth of July.

*My GF took me to see DareDevil on one:woot:

I liked it, so stop hating:cmad:

I mostly have to agree with you there. You shouldn't have to be obligated to get all those things on one day of the year. Flowers, gifts, etc. etc. should be willingly given to your loved ones just because you want to give them.
