Venom now has a stand alone film, according to the studio.

Yep, he sure did. He was also a great Eddie Brock, especially for it being the first time we got to see a live action Eddie Brock/Venom.
I liked his performance too, I just always thought he'd do better in 3 as a side-character(which I think was their original intention) because his character felt a bit like Jimmy Olsen from the Superman series of films/comic-books. I wished they saved him up for 4 and just explored the character throughout the film, near the end you see Peter take the symbiote suit off and then it begins to look at a new host; Eddie Brock. Would've been a nice cliffhanger ending and also it could've made 4 more of a psychological adventure for Spidey with having Venom stalk him around and mess with his mind like in the comic-books, and then finally at the end of the film it's just plain and simple Spider-Man vs. Venom; no team-ups, just one big 10 minute plus brawl in a skycraper as to there's a lot more going on, while fighting Venom a skyscraper could malfunction and Spider-Man is forced to save it with Venom on his back.

Yeah, Topher was a pretty good Brock and Venom. I just wish they could've done the Venom voice a little better and yes he should've been saved as a cliffhanger and then come back for 4, instead of being killed off. But I blame studio intrusion over anything. I'm sure Raimi would've probably kept and saved Venom for movie 4. I mean he's obviously been saving Lizard for quite some time and it is very soon and possible he'll unleash the baddie upon us.

Yeah, Lizard's going to be awesome. And he definitly will be in 4. Probably with The Vulture because The Lizard and The Vulture were supposed to be in Spider-Man 3(listen to commentary featuring cast and director, I think they mention it around the hospital sequence or something near there).

I think that was the rumored plot for SM2 before Conners/Lizard was replaced by Doc Ock... I know Raimi wanted to do Sandman for SM3... he also wanted to do Vulture... the studio should have just let him have his way by making Vulture and Sandman the villains in SM3... hold off on the symbiate saga till SM4.

Too bad these things never seem to play out properly. It's what we should have gotten but that's Hollywood.

No Vulture, I don't think he'd be interesting to see at all in these movies. I do think that the symbiote or Venom saga should've waited until SM-4 but with Raimi we got a rushed Venom in SM-3. If they would've let him do it his way, there wouldn't have been any Venom at all.

Its really the same thing that happened with X-3... SAME EXACT thing... instead of leaving things for a possible fourth installment... the studio feels it needs to fit everything in into the three picture franchise... I can't say I blame them for it isn't my 200 million I am investing... but damn it's like they think the fourth installment is going to be a guaranteed flop... X-3 could have EASILY written out Jean... and even Marsden other than his few scenes in the Mansion... and just focused on the cure... then Pheonix for X-4... and you look at SM3... if you took out the symbiate... just all Harry vs Peter... with a B-list tag team combo just to fill in for the action... instead we get the hapass version of Venom and an even cheezier combo... I just don't get it... I don't... it really falls on Arad and Penn/Kinberg along with the ******ed studios sticking their noses and foots up the asses of their writers/directors...

Actually, Vulture would make a great psychological villain of could come up with some great fiendish ways to overthrow Spider-Man and all of his other enemies. He'd also have some incredible chase sequences between himself and Spidey which is something we haven't really seen to much of in a Spider-Man film(although there has been some like Peter vs. Harry, etc).

I heard Topher hadn't the teeth and suit he had to wear, that's why he's not returning or doing venom movie

he's not returning because he doesn't want. he said it himself.

what would the premise of a VENOM movie be? even if they did it as a horror flick (which id support) --- what would the plot be? what other marvel/spidey characters would show up??

probably something from the Lethal Protector storyline. the Separation Anxiety one, I think.
I'd like to see him fighting the other 5 symbiotes.

Personally, I'd like to see him face off against villains that were involved with him in the Spider-Man universe like: Mac Gargan/Scorpion; who becomes Venom #3, and let's not forget Cletus Kassidy; Carnage. The storyline will be just about Eddie Brock himself, what kind of life he leads, etc.

Rights are with Sony or Marvel? the IESB article reported it was Marvel.

i dig the idea... i hope it turns out well.

And those are the reasons he said he doesn't want to return
he also said that spin-offs usually suck.
that's another reason he doesn't want to come back.
and I'm glad. I liked him in SM3. his acting is great. but he just isn't the Brock of the comics. and I don't want this new Venom to be related to SM3.

Whatever the movie will probably never get made anyway.
Yeah, it'll probably be cancelled during production but I really do hope that's not the case because most Venom fans were disappointed with Spider-Man 3's version so it'll be nice of them to repay the fans. My thoughts are that if the majority of fans do not like any comic-book character/movie, it should be re-made; differently like Punisher: War Zone, The Incredible Hulk, etc.

Here's to hoping it turns out to be a good film. As long as the film is good, I'll see any comic character film.

ditto for me; even if i hate the character... like manthing, didnt want to see it, but if it turned out good i knew id really like it. of course manthing sucked but you get my point.

They could just recast Eddie, but I don't know how they'd write him if Spider-Man isn't in.

venom in prison maybe? like eddie brock sr is in the joint, the symbiote somehow finds it way to prison, eddie pulls an escape w/venom's help...
