Who should be the villain in the next Star Wars movie: the Sith, the Yuuzhan Vong, Admiral Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant or someone else?

Personally I'd like to see a dark Jedi as one of Lukes fallen students and the villans should be the scum of the broken republic.

The movie should be about new characters who meet the old ones. One of them meets Luke Skywalker who is a lone old hero who now lives in the ruins of his failed Jedi academy, he was unable to rebuild the order alone, explaining how all of his pupils fell to the darkside.

Some of the other characters should meet Leia and Lando who are leaders in the New Republic but have failed to rebuild it. The galaxy is just a great no mans land. Leia holds a great deal of resentment for Luke and the two are estranged. Han is dead after being killed by her son Jacen who fell to the darkside under Lukes training and who was ultimately killed by Luke. Leia blames Luke for her sons death explaining he never should have turned in the first place and Luke should have helped him.

IMO I think this sounds great and has potential for a great trilogy.

I do like the idea of Luke's fallen pupil.

I do hope the characters will be a bit less... black and white in morality.

No either totally good or totally bad.

As for Thrawn and the Yuuzhan Vong, do we know if this movie will even acknowledge the expanded universe stuff?

Not too big on the expanded Universe but the Yuuzhan Vong just aren't that interesting for me, but I do think Thrawn should make an appearance at some point.

Someone else, preferably something new, original and out of left field.

I would like it if they went with the original idea Lucas had for a third trilogy, one based on philosophical and moral internal conflict.

I would look at Aasimov's Foundation and Herbert's Dune for some inspiration, where you have figures whose foresight reveals the collapse of civilization and a new age of darkness. These figures then struggle to do what is needed to save civilization as it involves committing atrocities and conspiracies for the greater good.

I could easily see Luke and his new Jedi enacting their own Seldon Plan and Golden Path to save the galaxy from itself. They could end up as the villains and heroes at the same time.

Something entirely new while still "in-universe." We have already seen the fallen pupil (once on film and at least once in the novels). I hoping for something fresh that we have not seen in the movies or played out in the comics or video games.

True, but we've never seen it done well. At least not in film.

Though I wouldn't mind something along the lines of Darth Traya.

My personal preference would be that the Sith should remain as the main threat to the galaxy and my uber-fanboy dream would be something similar to the Sith triumvirate from KOTOR II. But for the most part I just want whatever new Villain/threat to be fresh and compelling.

What is really exciting, if you think about it, is that this is the first time since 1980 where we don't know what is going to happen (story wise).

We know what the endgame is (more or less) in The Clone Wars.

We knew where they were going in the prequels.

We even knew all the loose ends were going to be tied up in ROTJ.

This is the first time where we don't know what is going to happen. So much that we now know Episode 9 isn't the end. It is possible that the next trilogy simply (and hopefully excitedly) sets up the next generation of the franchise.

I think Dark Jedi is the logical choice, but i'd love to see the Imperial Remnant and the Chiss.

They seem to be steering quite clear of any of Zahn's stuff. Don't count on it.

Can't really go wrong with Sith.

Eh... As long as the character isn't too generically evil.

In the Star Wars universe (at least as far as the films are concerned) it's Sith or Jedi. If you use the Force, you're either totally evil, or totally good. Unless you do a dramatic reversal.

I'd like to see a character who is a little more complex. Use the Force, but not be a cackling villain.

Probably why I liked KOTOR2. Kreia was a much better character than Palpatine.

Palpatine was kind of intended to be generically evil. He's pretty much just the Devil.

I agree though, I love the more 3 dimensional villains, and since you mentioned KOTOR, I think the Mandalorians are due for a return.

I think it's time for a Mandalorian anti-hero.

Could make for a badass supporting character.

Absolutely. I think they should be a presence and not all of them should be 'bad'. Self interested maybe.

That's how Han Solo started out.

If you could afford someone like Fett... why wouldn't you get him to join your group?

Have Dark Jedi or Sith, just push the perception of the Force further, so as to removie the black-white aspect of it. The NJO books are valuable sources for that. They handle the Force better than ANH/ESB.

But wasn´t Anakin meant to destroy the Sith Forever? So the bad Guys couldn´t be Sith,or am i wrong?

There can still be evil Jedi. Not to mention Luke is the balanced Jedi inbetween the light and the darkside.
