The Wrestling Thread threw a Heart Attack Hamburger on the Grill

anyone else watching Main Event?

I doubt Hunter is knocking japanese wrestling. i've learned more about japanese wrestling just by reading his posts in my time here. Maybe he just doesn't think much of Devitt.

Hunter's arguable the biggest fan of Japanese wrestling so I heavily doubt he'd knock it. Its definitely the latter.

I just kinda wish a popular Japanese wrestler would get a push in WWE.

Oh I know...I just have a feeling that he's been disillusioned by the Indy scene in its entirety and his lack of interest might stem from that. Nothing against Hunter

Well many IWC smarks are way too high on some wrestlers who they say would be a great fit in WWE when in reality some of them wouldn't even make it in NXT.

Which in some cases is true for the ones that might have a hard time adapting/improving or have no real appeal ala Colin Delaney, Trent Baretta, Kevin Steen, and Teddy Hart.

My current fave 5

WWE:
1. Mark Henry
2. CM Punk
3. Chris Jericho
4. Christian
5. Dolph Ziggler

TNA:
1. Bad Influence
2. Austin Aires
3. Bully Ray
4. Bobby Rooooooooooo
5. Magnus

Warrior as a preorder bonus for WWE 2014??!!

This.

Warrior and Owen Hart are my two most requested for each game.

Warrior is always possible, but if Owen ever makes it into a game, I might just have a heart attack.

Does anyone think WWE still has a hard time making people care about the IC/US title division? I mean they got the Us title on Ambrose whom is developing a program with Christian and Axel vs Miz for the IC title going on. Not bad but I feel that with WWE having 6 hours of weekly television there is room for more emphasis on those belts.

There's always money in thread Wrestling Thread.

Its a combination of them not putting enough emphasis on the belts (mostly this) as well as them having too many belts for their own good.

In particular, the US title and the World Heavyweight Championship don't really need to exist, ESPECIALLY now that the brand split is over.

To be fair though, the WHC existing is more understandable than the US title, which really serves no function that the Intercontinental Title doesn't already.

The reason the US title needs to be dissolved is that same reason the European Title WAS dissolved. There's just no reason for it to exist when the IC title is still around.

This is definitely true...If they had only the WWE, WHC, IC, Tag, and Diva's title, it could give WWE less things to make look directionless.

The WHC is now basically what the Intercontinental belt was before they acquired WCW. If it was up to me, they would just have the WWE title, the IC title, the tag titles, and the Divas title. Then again, I only watch Raw, because I don't love the product enough right now to watch more than 3 hours of it per week, so I guess I'm not the one they are catering to.

Tony Nese in PWG? Nice! Really talented guy and really friendly in person. Wish TNA gave him a better shot.

So I'm reading a bunch of different reports. Is Sam Shaw still with TNA or is he gone?

Or because he wasn't interested enough to actively pursue a WWE contract. Considering that Adrian Neville (whom was given the spot monkey tag) has made it into the company and became a popular character in NXT, I'm sure Devitt easily could if he wanted to. We're talking about a company that employs Jack Swagger, Fandango and Ryback after all....

Not to mention, Im sure WWE could use a guy Iike him in the midcard that can put on matches like this: http://youtu.be/HZt01rQmZm4

Just saying....

Look at the 3 guys you listed there and look at how they are built, not to mention Swagger has a strong amateur background. If Devitt isn't interested and wants to keep earning living money then cool, but as Bryan and Punk have shown, if you have the balls and dedication to try you can make it on the big stage, maybe Devitt just realizes he's not cut out for it and thus hasn't got the confidence in his abilities to endure the WWE tests that every guy goes through before they hit the main roster.

I don't see anything in that match that would interest WWE. Good athletes and hard working no doubt, but since when has WWE ever really encouraged that kind of spotty work?

So basically we can agree that a wrestler not being in big promotions doesn't automatically mean that he/she is not good enough to adapt beyond workrate right? Lol

I don't think you can say that is the case until they have tried. I was a huge fan of Bryan in ROH but I openly admitted that I couldn't see him getting over in WWE, I just couldn't see a hook for him with that fanbase because his greatest attribute was putting on long high quality matches, clearly he's shown he can adapt, guys like Devitt and Davey Richards haven't proven they can and IMO if they thought they could they'd try as the money incentive is too big to pass up.

This is definitely true...If they had only the WWE, WHC, IC, Tag, and Diva's title, it could give WWE less things to make look directionless.

Bring back the Cruiserweight title and treat it with respect. I know that's asking a lot from WWE's point of view.

I'm definitely not knocking Japanese wrestling, but I personally think with the 4 Corners of Heaven, Mutoh, Suzuki, Sasaki and co going down the other side of the mountain it's not what it was.

NOAH has KENTA, Marafuji, Morishima and Go Shiosaki that are all pretty good but have not truly taken over the reins the way it was hoped they would. When I see a journeyman like Sugiura as the GHC champion I think how far it as fallen, and he's a good worker but hardly a star.

I would love that as well which is why Okada sparked my interest the other day, he's the first guy I've seen from Japan in a long time that I think could make it in WWE. KENTA has potential as well despite his size, but I admit I think finding the ideal booking strategy to get him over would be harder. Shiosaki and Morishima are too bland and too flabby respectively to catch WWE's eye, Morishma works like a beast but looks like a marshmallow.

Funny you mention that since the guy using all the high spots in the match is now in NXT and known as Adrian Neville lol.

I'm not going to say I want Devitt in WWE but Im sure if he wanted to he could become a presence on NXT like Adrian Neville has and potentially a good IC title pursuer.'Especially since Devitt's style can easily be adjusted to the WWE format from what I've seen of him. The only test he'd really have is whether or not he can talk well and portray the character type he's required to portray since his current NJPW persona comes off a little bit Alex Shelley-like from what I have seen ....Not that that's a bad thing in and of itself.

Anyway regarding WWE, Devitt told PWTorch last year that he was content with NJPW and planned to stay their for a while but he won't say "Never" to a WWE run because he might enjoy that challenge.

Ugh, the RAW crowd was shameful this week. Ziggler is working his butt off and they chant for Hee Haw Layfield at the announce desk. Mark Henry is cutting a classic heel promo and the crowd is stuck in 2001, chanting "What?!".

Mediocre show with Punk and Bryan's mic work being the highlight. Other than Ziggler's match, the in-ring performances were forgettable.

Ugh don't get me started on the "WHAT" chants. To say they've run their course would be an understatement. They really have to stop with this. That chant basically ruined a half-way decent promo by Henry and really just deflates the promo time. Even J.R. wants them to stop.

WHAT has had it's time, like 10 years ago. They don't even do it at the right times anymore.
