I'm of the thought that this was probably originally pitched as part of the Old DCEU, but I hope that the show puts Amanda into a new legitimate position of power, that in turn puts her back into stories involving more heroes, and villains
It was.
Actually, I think that even before his promotion to head of DC Studios, Gunn already had his own little “DC corner” to play in, regardless of the state of the wider DC Universe in the films.
The Suicide Squad and the first season of
Peacemaker were already out, and we know that
Creature Commando and
Waller were already in the pipeline before January 2023.
Of course, Gunn's new position has certainly brought its share of changes to these projects, But I can't help thinking that this first batch of the DCU is, more or less, just a continuation of his initial plan, with a few added projects, probably loosely linked to the rest
(Green Lantern, Swamp Thing). In the end, if his
Superman fails, he'll still have released all the projects announced under his name.
I could also be completely wrong, it's just speculation of course.
But it seems logical enough, and it keeps the possibility of a
“clean exit", creatively, if everything goes wrong for the bigger picture.
In any case, I can see Gunn playing it that way.
