DC Television Viola Davis in talks to star in Amanda Waller series (HBO Max)

Could be just because he’s tagged in it, but interesting to find this in Gunn’s likes…

I feel like we can certainly expect this to gloss right over that Black Adam/Shazam business, but I’m curious to know how much this will feel like a reboot of all the Waller-related material we’ve gotten so far or if it really will fully act as a follow-up for TSS/Peacemaker.

Wrote for both versions of Justified and a couple episodes of Mad Men.

This dude, Henry and Carver are such a wild mixture of creatives that is super intriguing. Need more news asap. Hope Danielle Brooks is on deck too.

Neither are particularly surprising, but I’m just glad to hear movement is happening.

Im surprised Viola even signed onto this. Amanda 'The Wall' Waller hasnt been The Wall anything yet in any of her showings. Hopefully this changes that.

I like that she sucks in The Suicide Squad. It's maybe my favourite iteration of the character because it's such a wonderful subversion of silly chessmaster bull****.

I'm of the thought that this was probably originally pitched as part of the Old DCEU, but I hope that the show puts Amanda into a new legitimate position of power, that in turn puts her back into stories involving more heroes, and villains

I wonder what other characters could appear in this show. Imaginably, each episode could be about Waller getting a hero under her control via scheming and blackmail, as she tries to gain a degree of control over Supes' independent Justice League. I can just imagine, one episode about her thinking ahead of The Flash, one episode visiting Themyscira, etc.

Batman specifically seems like the most obvious choice given their history/conflict in the comics (there is also a rumour that the show will have ties to Brave & the Bold in some way), maybe even setting up Tower of Babel, as Waller is the one that convinces Bats to put contingencies in place, thus Waller "allowing" the JL to operate indepently.

It was.

Actually, I think that even before his promotion to head of DC Studios, Gunn already had his own little “DC corner” to play in, regardless of the state of the wider DC Universe in the films.
The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker were already out, and we know that Creature Commando and Waller were already in the pipeline before January 2023.

Of course, Gunn's new position has certainly brought its share of changes to these projects, But I can't help thinking that this first batch of the DCU is, more or less, just a continuation of his initial plan, with a few added projects, probably loosely linked to the rest (Green Lantern, Swamp Thing). In the end, if his Superman fails, he'll still have released all the projects announced under his name.

I could also be completely wrong, it's just speculation of course.
But it seems logical enough, and it keeps the possibility of a “clean exit", creatively, if everything goes wrong for the bigger picture.
In any case, I can see Gunn playing it that way. 🤷‍♂️

Fingers crossed…

Also assuming this will be HBO proper like Lanterns. When you have Viola Davis at your disposal, in the lead role no less… that’s a little more HBO than Max.

Aren’t all their upcoming shows HBO proper now? They’re doing away with Max originals entirely, no?

I know they moved some of the franchise stuff away from being streaming-only, but I don’t know if they ever confirmed that that would be sweeping.

With Peacemaker and Creature Commandos remaining Max originals, I have to imagine there’s still room for certain projects to premiere that way. I could see something like Booster Gold going either way.

Ok. Make sense. Waller will be paired with Clayface. DC is just rolling along. Superman/Peacemaker, Supergirl/Lanterns, Clayface/Waller. I like that Gunn is pairing shows and movie together. Not rushing the movies out just slow and steady.

Apparently Sneider has reported that King Faraday will be a part of this series.

I don’t necessarily buy everything he says, but that seems plausible to me.

Wanna see this get rolling. I can see a small role in Peacemaker S2 setting something up. Pretty sure that is setting it up anyway.

Maybe get Brolin to play Faraday since he's not our Hal. Or maybe John Slattery's available

So it looks like the show going into production was a lie?

Safran explained, “We’ve taken a couple of cracks at Waller and we haven’t been able to land it.”

“We’re still working on it,” said Gunn.

Waller has been tough, the strike was tough on Waller, there was a certain amount time that we needed to do Peacemaker first,” he continued.

And now I see Frank Grillo reposting an article about his involvement on his IG stories.
