It was "official" in the very first link itself. Pity he couldn't figure it out the first time and instead, lashed out on me for his own ignorance and lacking reading comprehension.

Heh I guess it was.
It'll be interesting to see more reactions :woot: :oldrazz:

Oh yes, this was only the first, the tip of the iceberg. And he wasn't even that big a Sony fanboy. I can almost hear the sounds of countless wrists getting sliced open over at the SDF headquarters. :D:up:

Oh well... Another PS3 EXCLUSIVE turns out to be anything but.

Dun, Dun, Dun,
Another exclusive bites the dust!
Dun, Dun, Dun,
Another exclusive bites the dust-ahh!
And another one's gone,
And another one's gone,
Another exclusive bites the dust!
Hey, We're gonna get MGS4, too!
Another exclusive bites the DUST!

:D

What's with all this wrist/throat slitting talk? Act your age.

As a Sony fan, I think it's a shame Sony have lost Virtua Fighter as an exclusive. Not sure it would have won many people over to the PS3, as Virtua Fighter has always been a bit of a niche fighter, but still.

A wonder if it will find a market on 360, with gamers bred on Dead or Alive and Mortal Kombat, not a top tier fighter to their name. Virtua Fighter is a much more technical game.

The bolded line would be incredibly difficult to sing to that tune.

Ah but that's what you guys said about VF5, didn't you? Don't you guys ever learn? ;)

Ah, the 'changes everything' smiley. My mistake. :o :whatever:

There wasn't a great deal to suggest VF5 would be going to the 360. There was nothing out there. It was just people guessing. People had every reason not to believe VF5 wasn't going to the 360.

Hey, it's not my problem you have a hard time compensating for your own stupidity and lack of comprehension. :)

Jeez, are you really that dense? Couldn't you make out even such a simple and obvious point from my post? I don't care what you thought of the level of plausibility of VF5 getting ported to the 360, fact of the matter is that it happened - a major Sony exclusive jumping ship and with rumors of MGS4 and DMC4 coming to the 360 also being reported by a number of reliable gaming websites and publications, you people are still impervious to dropping your senseless logic of "no, the chances of those games coming to the 360 is highly unlikely". You still want to keep you head stuck in the sand? Hey, fine by me.

Blah blah blah, and now something other than petty fighting.

US, January 12, 2007 - Developer's Column #1

My name is Murayama and I work in the R&D department of AM2 at the Sega of Japan offices in Tokyo. I have written many pieces for Japanese Web sites, but have not provided anything for English-speaking Web sites, so am very excited to talk about Virtua Fighter 5 with you.

First, let me briefly introduce myself.

I've been with SEGA's AM2 for about seven years. Before joining SEGA, I worked at a gaming retailer store selling video games. As you can tell, videogames has always been a big part of my life. At AM2, I am the lead Game Designer for the PlayStation 3 version of Virtua Fighter 5. My title is a little difficult to explain since it has a different meaning for each company and especially across different countries. In my case in Japan, a game designer creates game design documents and communicates with the various teams (art, audio, programming) to make sure that everyone is in synch and to make sure that the game is staying on track within the development cycle.

Since Virtua Fighter 5 was originally developed for the arcade version, the console team worked hard at making the PS3 version the perfect arcade conversion. Although it's two different teams, both the arcade and PS3 teams work very closely together. The arcade team focuses more on issues such as which technique causes X point damage, what is the concept of X stage, etc. Or, why did the game adopt the Lucha Libre technique or why does Taka not return? I personally want him to make a comeback though! The things I am involved with include all the other aspects of the game such as the texts that appear in the game. How the training mode will work. How does the Pause menu work, what should be included in the Options menu, etc. Anything that is exclusively related to the PS3 version falls under me. It becomes quite challenging, as you can imagine.

Before Virtua Fighter 5, I worked on other arcade conversions including Beach Spikers (GC), Outtrigger (DC), assisted with Fighting Vipers 2 (DC) and Virtua Cop Re-Birth (PS2). I also have worked on the arcade side most recently with SEGA Golf Club recently. However, I was not associated with the PS3 version. I really enjoy my job because I am able to make sure that all of the important elements from the arcade versions become fun and challenging at home on the console versions. The moment the arcade game screen appears on the TV screen in my living room is quite exciting, really!

Finally, I'm going to tell you a bit more about the Quest Mode in Virtua Fighter 5. Making the Quest Mode was an unexpected surprise. Since the Quest Mode in Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution was so well received, we wanted to make it just as good for Virtua Fighter 5, if not better. Therefore, as you can imagine, we were under a great deal of pressure.

The game design team consists of myself and four other members. To overcome the challenge, we met and played Evo over and over until we found a better way for the player to experience the Quest Mode. Finally, we decided to raise the bar by making it a more realistic game arcade. So, with Virtua Fighter 5, you'll be able to visit all the arcades from the start. You can go to various game parlors freely without having to win a championship in each location. We thought this would be interesting for the player since it allows you to visit all the arcades, which is different than how Virtua Fighter 4 Evo's Quest Mode worked.

We also added some Virtua Fighter cabinets in the arcades in the Quest Mode. These are rather important and unique to the game. Once you are in the parlors, you are able to fight against any opponent you chose. Players can choose competitors that are weaker, stronger or the same rank. It really depends on what kind of player you are. We wanted to keep it up to the player rather than choose for them. However, it's important to note that the player that defeated you will always stay in the same cabinet. Therefore, to progress further throughout the mode, you will want to return to that cabinet to try to beat that opponent. This way you are able to continue to try to beat that opponent rather than wait to randomly see him at another location. With Virtua Fighter 5, you will notice there are many more opponents than there were in Evo or other Virtua Fighter games. You can visit up to seven different arcades within the Quest Mode and you are able to choose the level game parlor that you wish. For example, a high level parlor or one with a lot of beginners, etc.

Hopefully this gives you a nice taste of what the Quest Mode will feature as well as what my role in the development of the PS3 version of Virtua Fighter 5 entailed. We really look forward to hearing what the players out there think and can't wait for the game to come out next month.

This thread died when it was moved to the general games forum. Someone throw it back in the Sony forum where it actually had some support. It's too great a game to languish here.

Some videos from Ruliweb. The first bunch at the top are HD and are around 140 MB each and some get above 300 MB. The second set are smaller size and the last set are formatted for PSP.

Check out the Wolf video. His move list gets cooler and cooler each game.

I had heard about the commentary option during matches, but this is the first time I have heard it. You can switch it off so don't worry about that. I wonder if the US version will keep it and how it will sound.

I've got the Jap version. Actually I'm starting to wonder about these version things. My Resistance came in Japanese packaging but the game is completely in English (sans the Online Agreement thing which no one reads anyway). Same for my RR7 and now my VF5 which is probably the Japanese version but runs completely in English. Maybe I think that all games released will probably a Universal Version that changes language according to the language you set on your console (Either Jap or Eng anyways).

As for the game:
DOA...Eat your heart out.
Pai has never been this sexy, Kage is better than ever and the graphics...Lets just say that this game, regardless of whether you will get it on PS3 or 360, is THE Next-Gen fighter you've been waiting for. The textures are so stunning I can almost feel the chainmail on Kage, the bony facial features on Lei-Fei and so on. Its especially nice to play in a wet/rainy stage and watch as your characters really get wet as they splash into the water, colors change darker to show your soaked.

That being said, some nit-picking:
-Certain moves performed will damage you but visually (even on replays) they don't appear to connect. Very obvious when using characters like Akira (cheat) and Pai.

-The Quest mode really could be a lot more interesting

-THe Dojo mode dropped the VF4 Evo demo mode in favour of the agonizing move-by-move succession training

-THe grapplers (Jeffrey, Wolf and now El Blaze) still have a slight edge.

The game has been reviewed by Gamespot and IGN, and has scored in the 8s both times. I was expecting something as little higher than that. Both reviews seem to acknowledge its one of the best fighters out there, but apparantly its not inventive enough to break the 9 barrier.

Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox 360 will feature online multiplayer.

There have been a lot of rumors since Virtua Fighter 5 was announced for the Xbox 360. Would there be Xbox Live multiplayer or wouldn't there be? SEGA, at first, said: 'No, it wont', but today SEGA confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5 will indeed be featuring online multiplayer duels over Xbox Live.

And that's not all. The Xbox 360 version will feature the latest update in playmechanics from the Arcade version. Also, the Quest Mode has been expanded, with more CPU-opponents to fight with as well as more objects and articles to customize your character with. That's not all because the DOJO-mode will also be receiving an update on the Xbox 360 version. New functions have been added, like: rankings, training settings, throw- and defensive training as well as a feature to adjust the opponents health and position.

Probably the biggest improvement will be the addition of online multiplayer duels through Xbox Live. Players can compete 1-on-1 with any player from around the world. Players can choose from a total of 17 different characters, which are all individually customizable. Each character has four different costumes but more costumes can be unlocked by playing the Quest Mode. Release: Autumn 2007.
