Voltron is Coming Together at Fox

20th Century Fox-based production company New Regency has partnered with the Mark Gordon Company to adapt Voltron: Defender of the Universe into a possible franchise.

Producer Mark Gordon has been developing the film, based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comic books and toy line, for some time with Justin Marks writing the script.

But interest in the property hit a high after Transformers turned into a box office juggernaut, raking in nearly $300 million to date.

Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in New York City and Mexico.

In the animated series, five Galaxy Alliance pilots control vehicles shaped like lions that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron robot in order to battle an evil menace.

Gordon is producing with Lawrence Inglee and Jordan Wynn shepherding the project. Mark Costa and Ford Oelman are executive producers.

Marks is also adapting He-Man and the Masters of the Universe for Joel Silver at Warner Bros., as well as the Green Arrow pic Supermax, also at the studio. Marks also has Street Fighter in the works at Hyde Park and Fox.

.......And hope fades.

Power Rangers was not a rip off of Voltron...they were both based on some other giant combining robots thing...jesus...

jesus was made of combining robots? that whole, 3 gods in one thing makes so much more sense now...

¡Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! ¡Damn You Fox! :csad:

Good. Now there's proof that 1-18-08 isn't Voltron.

Voltron under control of Rothman.

"Well, you know...I know they piloted robots, but do they REALLY need to be robots? Why can't it just be...I don't know....a bunch of cars that come together to form one giant cool car? "

well...the article does say "Fox based company New Regency". This is the same as saying "WB based company New Line Cinema". So, we shouldn't freak out just YET!

TranZor Z = Mazinger Z, the godfather of the giant robot cartoons. but could it be done well? and seriously how funny would it be to see Aphrodite A shoot her boob missles at something?

Am I seeing things or does he have missles for boobs?

True, but it would have been better if they've just said New Regency and left Fox out. Just hearing the word Fox in conjunction with a movie send's a chill down my spine.

Thats cause whoever wrote the article is being over-dramatic.

Rothman will be in control of all of his ranks.
He will oversee New Regency with an iron fist. :o

not for lion bots made of junk.not at all.the lions were flawless.i dunno about this.

Regarding the article up above, last I heard was that the new He-man movie got scrapped.

Oh well, with all these reimagination/rebooting of franchises for the big screen they were bound to stuff up one of them. At least they got Transformers right.

*spits out drink*

I liked the cartoon, but I'm not happy with this news with FOX at the helm.

So let me get this straight, A Giant God like Being named Galactus was too unrealistic for FOX to put on screen, but a Giant Robot that is formed from robotic lions is more believable?? This is why this project is already doomed from the start.

The people that run FOX, oh you know, what's the point. I honeslty have no interest in this project or anything that comes from FOX, unless a director with clout is on board the film. I remeber reading an article back in either 99 or 2000 about how the comic genre was going to take off into films from different studios, and the writer said it's great, but expect some turkeys to be churned out, and he was right, and FOX is the studio that has curned out the most comic based films that were turkeys. The same trend may be starting up with tv based cartoons , so expect voltron to be the 1st turkey.

i loved voltron growing up. a real shame fox has the rights.

First Bayformers

now THIS. I wish we could contact these people DIRECTLY and stab them in the face.

is it just me or does the power rangers seem a lot like voltron...

Voltron was the originator, Power Rangers were the imitators!

Guys look at what the basic idea of this crappy screenplay is.

They've turned Voltron into a bad post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie where Voltron itself is made out of JUNK. I mean seriously. I mean how do you make that look good in a movie?

You know what I liked about Voltron when I was a kid? All the interstellar and fantasy elements. This script has jettisoned all of that.
