Wally West debuts in the New 52

How do you feel about Wally's return?

  • I'm super excited! About time!

  • I'm happy to hear it.

  • I'm indifferent either way.

  • I'm not so sure if I like this...

  • I hate it.

Dan Didio and DC editors have all these changes made to characters yet cancel more than half of their books that don't feature white male leads. Sales have to do with most of it yes, but DC gives up fast (Mr. Terrific and Static Shock). Batwing survived longest, heck maybe they're relaunching it at #1 Marvel style.

Static suffered from some seriously bad editing and generally f**king over the original writer....much like they did McDuffie.

Tricky.

I'm deeply conflicted, because to me Barry Allen will always be the Flash,
at the same time I loved the progression that Wally went through from
teen sidekick to fully fledged hero, who arguably surpassed his mentor.

While I'm glad Barry's around, at the same time, I kind of wish he'd stayed dead. The worst thing Marvel ever did, well one of the worst things, was bringing back Jean Grey.

The idea that comic book death could be reasonably permanent made the stakes that much higher, and the sacrifice of those characters, especially
Barry, that much more significant. And that DC would kill off a major hero
like that (I'm talking original "Crisis" people, which is still infinitely better
than final crisis, IMO).

Plus, there was also the plot device that would have allowed Barry to temporarily escape from his death run and appear in contemporary storylines.

Really, I haven't followed Flash for a while, but I have no problems with
having both Barry and Wally as the Flash - hell, I'm okay with the whole
Flash family.....well okay I find Bart annoying. I remember back in the
day when they started introducing Max Mercury and all the other speedsters,
I thought it was well done, and developed Wally as a character.

Plus, Wally's struggle to come out from Barry's long shadow has been a process taking decades. It'll be interesting to see where Wally's path takes him this time around.....well until the next retcon anyway.

So, welcome back Wally !

So I guess Wally's reappearance is good news.

I swear, this whole thing is like a passive aggressive f**k you to everybody that wanted Wally back....with a side of lite racism just for s**ts and giggles. :funny:

Yeah, pretty much.

Who is the father?

Ask DC

Batwing was selling ok, better than some other books.

Why would I ask DC? You made the accusation. I'm asking how it makes sense.

I don't follow the sales, but last I heard, Batwing was among the lowest sellers. And it got cancelled along with 5 other books starring white characters.

I had an exchange with Dan Didio on facebook and he stated that DC made the change "for the overall strength of the line" and that they were evolving the DC universe or whatever. For me it just seems weird that he would say that and then a book like Batwing gets canceled. That said the book did run for three years, so credit where credit is due I guess.

Every book like Batwing and Blue Beetle though seems like it would be part of this evolution. But if they sold bad I guess DC doesn't care about that.

I'm getting over this Wally thing though, good for me I guess. DC has plenty of great series for me to enjoy right now. No use focusing on the things I don't like.

For the record.......I dont'.....Let someone spray paint you car or your house and see how you like it....

But how often is graffiti done on a residence or owned vehicle? It's generally done in abandoned areas, but this doesn't have jack to do with the Flash. Sorry for getting off topic.

Doesn't matter.....It's someone's property.........

Well it boils down to the fact that those books didn't sell well. If they don't sell well DC has no choice but to insert those characters into well selling books in major ways to reflect society's diversity in the stories. It's a shame that it has to be that way but the majority of the comic book buying market created the scenario for that to happen. In the case of The Flash it's retelling the very first Barry Allen and Wally West stories in a modern setting where Wally is now black.

Can somebody please tell me what race WW is now? Black people hair, Mediterranean skin,

Dick gets to stay an adult and not be a sidekick
Roy gets to stay an adult and not be a sidekick

But not only is all of Wallys past history erased, he's back to being a teenager and sidekick

Did I miss the costume reveal?
