Wally West debuts in the New 52

How do you feel about Wally's return?

  • I'm super excited! About time!

  • I'm happy to hear it.

  • I'm indifferent either way.

  • I'm not so sure if I like this...

  • I hate it.

I want it to be Wally West, not just some guy named Wally.

The problem with that is the fact that his dad was written out of continuity along with him. Iris now has this Daniel guy as her brother with no mention of Rudy or her other sister from Pre-Flashpoint continuity. I think they even mentioned that her parents are different. They could easily go the route of "oh, Rudy was there the whole time, he was just SECRETLY her brother" but they kind of blew that load with Daniel.

Of course, they could link Wally to Daniel, but that wouldn't sit right with me. I also want to see the Wally West that we knew - not a slightly recognizable reimagining.

This also means that I hope DC will be steering Barry and Iris back together as a "thing" like they used to be. The speedsters need their lightning rod after all :( That's what Iris is to Barry.

I'm indifferent either way. It's not going to be the same character I grew up with so I don't really care. After seeing what they did to Grayson with the reboot I can't imagine how they'll neuter Wally. With Brett Booth coming in as artist I may end up finally dropping this book. A shame too cause I've really liked the current Flash title so far.

In the book itselft they've been hinting at doing that for a while now anyway.

has anyone considered that Wally might be coming back to unravel this mess that we call the new 52?
I'm callin it now guys... there gonna make another crisis story called FLASHBACK and it's gonna restore the old continuity ha ha ;-)

Maybe he's coming back as a Black Lantern and the plot will revolve around him playing mind games with Barry before trying to eat his heart. :cwink:

Current Iris West is probably contemporary and not a future girl (did not read past issue 9), I think new Wally can be taken as Wally, or a good Wally

Why would Wally eat the heart of someone preceding him?

Because it's darker and edgier and that's all modern comics writers care about. :cwink: ;)
Not that dark or edgy
If new Wally does that, he's an a-hole, and this won't be a fan service

Considering the way that the art hides the skin color, eyes, and hair of both potential Wally candidates and the casting rumors of the TV show it seems like Wally will get a race change.

Why couldnt they just let him be a hold over from the old DCU? Everyone wins!

Without having read the latest issues of the Flash or Forever Evil tie ins, What if Wally West is actually Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash from their reality? In Barry's it was Daniel West. What if, because the evil Justice League, he traveled into Barry's world and gets stuck.

There are reverse versions of everyone, sort of.

I know it will probably be something different, and I am not hoping its this exactly.
Just a fun theory or idea.

You just wanted to post Manupals work and I don't blame you. haha ;)

Had a weird assumption, probably wrong, but I'll say it
Could be Darwin Elias posing and using a pseudoname of Wally

Is Wally actually called "The Flash" or will he be like a reimagined Cobalt Blue (purely based on the fact his suit is blue)?

I'm starting to think they are de-aging Wally back to a teenager. he's Iris's nephew and on the cover of Flash annual #2 there is a kid with a spray paint can. It's not the worst option they could have gone with, but it would be weird to see him and Dick Grayson be different ages.

He might be a from a few years in the future and tie into Future's End.

This 52 has a messed up timeline
Barry is supposed to be in his 5th year as Flash
Batman is in his 11th or something year I guess
And Richard remained Robin for a year or two at most

Bruce is in his 6th year as Batman. Zero Year takes place when Superman is all jeans and t-shirt.

It's not messed up, you're just not following it.

Great, just great
Flipped through the annual, to see [blackout]Barry is an old Flash 20 years in the future dressed like that, and is guilty for Wally's death. Wally hates the Flash for being the reason his uncle Dan is in prison again[/blackout]
Not what I was hoping to see

How old is Wally supposed to be? Is he younger than Bart now? Weird.

He's not technically younger than Bart, at least from a objective viewpoint. But from their own perspective they're similar ages.
