Okay. I am ready to try and actually do something about the government and try to make positive changes in the world.

At first I wanted to be a police officer or join the military. I have cerebral palsy and seizures derived from CP so I do not have either of these things as an option. Instead of trying to become a silly vigilante, I want to actually make positive progress so I want to get into politics.

The ultimate goal would be running for president of the USA. I know this isn't something I can do right off the bat with no experience... <well I could but it'd be stupid>

I'm nearly 28 so I don't even qualify for about six years anyhow. So what can I start doing now so that by the time I'm oh lets say.. 50, I may actually have a chance.

I know I'll need college (probably) when I can afford it. But that will be a few years.

If you are going to discourage me from even trying then please do so by showing off how daunting it is to try with everything I will need to learn rather then just calling me stupid.

Thanks ^_^

Well...ya college is going to be the first needed step haha, obviously. Most politicians have law degrees, but there are of course exceptions. You'll want to get involved in local politics as a jumpstart and to get the feel politics. Then you can get various posts and make a local name for yourself. Your ultimate goal is an extreme longshot, but remember you can make a difference without being president

Read the FairTax Book. Google FairTax. Read about it. Watch the Video: FairTax: It's Time. Come back to me with what you think you can do to help heal your country.

It's a short list:
Are you a millionaire several times over? Several, SEVERAL times over?

Do you or your family hold any kind of power in interests like oil, pharmaceuticals, BANKING, etc,etc ?

Not only will you definitely need college, you will need to catch the interest of people like the Rockefellers, Henry Kissinger, criminals like that. And if you have no prior connection or relationship to them at all, chances are even slimmer. Minuscule. Practically non-existent.

99.99999999999999999999% of us cannot meet all of those things which you absolutely must if you stand any chance of becoming President, along with everything else that goes along with it, things like BSing your way up the political ladder, being able to flat out lie to people in front of their face and smile while doing it, being a great speaker, the list goes on. You can read about FairTax all day and night, you can learn everything you can and more, and still if you don't meet that very basic of criteria, you have no chance. That's just the reality of it.

Volunteer on local campaigns. It's the best way to network. College is great and all - but nothing beats real campaign skill. Working on elections is the best way to develop contacts - which is what politics is all about.

This is great advice! Listen to this man!

I would suggest running for local office first and doing some community organizing before going right into running for president. And yeah, get involved with other campaigns and activism.

College is a must....

Begin working as a community organizer.....

Get in good with the right people, wherever you live.....

Run for State Senate, and stay there for about 3 years...

Run for the US Senate, and stay there for 2 years....

Speak at the DNC or RNC which ever you choose....but be sure and do that as an up and coming State Senator that no one really knows....

Then in your 2nd year as US Senator begin running for President....

oooooooh and pack your teleprompter.....

Follow those steps and you are a shoe in.......

OH, but the biggest thing ya gotta do.....make sure you are running against an old fart, and a Governor of some insignificant state and make sure their running mate is a female.

You'll be a shoe in....easy.

I'm being silly with all of that, obviously......but honestly, you do need to get a college education. Get involved in your community in the political realm, you are starting late, unless you have a daddy that is in Politics.

Also, have you paid your taxes on time and have you consistently voted in elections.....because I guarantee you those things will come out in every election you are a part of.....

Ditto to all the people who said get involved in a local campaign. Make sure it's someone who you believe in, regardless of party affiliation, but also who has a chance of some day gaining power. Maintain contact with this person and their key organizers win or lose, and volunteer for repeated campaigns involving these same people.

Also, look for opportunities to serve on local or regional boards or councils.
