The Dark Knight The Oscar Push!

It was always obvious from on set interviews and pics that Heath was having the time of his life. It was only after his death when ignorant people fueled by the idiot press were saying nonsense like, "The Joker killed Heath!!!" You could tell TDK cast(especially Bale who really seemed pissed when he was asked if the Joker role had something to do with Ledger's death) were not happy with that assumption.

Funny. I thought Jackman was sort of poking fun at all of the People *****ing and moaning about the Dark Knight not being nominated. I thought it was like a "Get the **** over it type of deal". Have to watch it again I guess. Too bad it wasn't

I don't see why it's idiocy. I still don't understand why people get so upset when someone claims that the man died for his art. I mean it's not like it's anything to be ashamed of. And he could have said whatever he wanted about how fun the role was. His definition of "fun" could have simply been the escape factor as far as being able to completely transform into something else. As talented as the man was, and as brilliant as his performance was, the role obviously had a toll on him, as was evident by the amount of medication he was on. I mean he also stated that he was only getting 2 hrs. of sleep some nights during filming. That ain't exactly my definition of fun. You can't simply turn off the character. I'm sorry but the role of the Joker, i.e. all the deep, ark places he had to go to in his mind in order to be able to pull off the performance he did, MIGHT have had an affect on the mans health. In fact, I think it did a good chunk of damage. I suffer from some of the same things he did. One of the thing nobody seems to think about in terms of this arguement about if the role killed him is the ticks. All that lip licking and twitching, I don't think he was faking those. And I think it's fair to attribute things like that, that might have led to excess medication, to his end status.

Nah, I'd say The Reader got the worst of it, since he said nothing about it at all. ("The Reader! I haven't seen The Reader! I was gonna watch it later! But I fell behind!") At least he mentioned TDK got a billion dollars and everybody saw it, so one could surmise it was support for a nomination. :oldrazz:

Exactly...it was more like ''what more can we do than making the most acclaimed comic book movie which btw made a billion bucks to get a freakin nomination over The Reader?''

I don't see how anyone could interpretate it for a moke of the people who supported the movie...which included a lot of directors, actors and film critics.

Hugh Jackman made his career playing a superhero, so I doubt he'd be one to write of TDK as a movie simply because it's based on a comic. I really did LOL at that part of the show, because it really did feel like an acknowledgment that TDK didn't get the nominations it deserved. Even if it's in disagreement with what the academy's voters believe, it at least shows that not everyone is turning a blind eye to such a fantastic movie not getting the BP and BD nods.

At least Heath got to spend one last Christmas with his family :csad:

But I know the guy had the most fun in his life playing the Joker, he said so in another interview as well...

Its b/c people put celebs on pedestals. They don't want to accept anything negative b/c such a thing would tarnish the idealized image they have in their minds of the individual. So they overcompensate by vehemently denying rumors and allegations and calling everyone else idiotic. Its a pollyanna, naive mentality.

Having said that, I don't think the Joker role killed Ledger. Oldman and Bale in particular stated that when the film wasn't rolling he was talking about his daughter and goofing around. Even the amateur set footage shows him playing around in between takes. Which means he mastered turning the Joker on and off, indicative of someone in control not the other way around which would indicate someone being consumed by the role. I do think various factors in his personal life contributed to his untimely demise. The tumultuous relationship with Williams over his daughter, the workload, carelessly mixing prescription drugs.

Because he actually helped her by campaigning her for lead instead of supporting? Although I think she would rather have preferred it to be for Revolutionary Road because her hubby directed that one. :oldrazz: I think that's the reason why she elected not to thank him, not that it would "remind" people about TDK.

They also dissed it in the comedy montage, when stoned James Franco and Seth Rogen thought it was a comedy and were :lmao: at it. :hehe:

I liked that the producers had the guts to do that, but I bet they were :cmad: when the nominations were announced. Their jobs would have been SO much easier if TDK had been nominated instead of The Reader, but I'm glad the TV ratings are up because they did a fine job. And got a few jabs at the Academy while they were at it. :cwink:

Awww, I'm glad. :yay:

Yeah I know the voters don't have any say in the telecast or it's contents but given that the majority of them were in the audience it was pretty unprecedented of the producers to basically say 'You ****ed up!'.

If they make similar mistakes next year or in the future the next tactic would be allowing the general public to attend to literally chant those words whenever the opportunity arises:woot:.

For all intents and purposes, this Oscar ceremony was, at the very least, more watchable than it has been in recent years. It got a few laughs out of me. And I will say that the "narrative" structure of the show worked.

Still, I think they'd be better off going back to tradition with the Actor categories, where they just have the last year's winners announce the nominees and winner.

Not bad this year Oscar ceremony, but they still need some changes...

I am watching the Oscars ceremony right now. I just watched the art direction category and I have to say, in art direction at least, TDK didnt deserve to win. Craig's comment says it all: "Did Gotham always look like Chicago through a glass darkly?"
How can you direct a movie in Gotham city and make the sets and backgrounds so flat and uninspired? How can you sterilize everything so much after the grandeur of sets in BB?
I believe that Gotham should be any art director's dream, the big chance to do his magic, to show his worth. TDK was simply uninspired in that area. BB's dinner at the hotel with the "swimming pool" was ten times more gleamy and glamorous than anything in TDK besides the Hong Kong scene. Are all board meetings held in large empty rooms? Does the Wayne CEO have the lamest office in town? Can the interior of the penthouse of the richest playboy in the world be so.... meh?

I have always whined about the atmosphere and the look of Gotham in TDK, so here it is!
I will post later when i watch the rest of the nominations.

EDIT: TDK was a great film but i'd hate to think that all these money it made resulted in less effort by the team in the next one. In art direction at least, the academy didnt snub the dark knight. They should work more on it for the next one.

When Will Smith appeared.... was that.... that must have been Zimmer's Batman tune! It must have been!
Its such a pity that beautiful soundtrack didnt get nominated. Its value is proven by the fact that it has been used by so many shows and series on TV and radio. Such a pity.

On a similar note, how did Benjamin Button win the award on makeup when the aged Pitt head was done in CGI? Hellboy should have won this.

i can't understand why the soundtrack was not nominated. i might be biased, but i honestly thought it was leagues ahead of the nominees. of course, i really don't value the oscars as meaningful in any way, so it's not the end of the world. I'm listening to the score right now, actually.

benjamin button was revolutionary in terms of makeup effects.

hellboy was not. the makeup was good, no doubt. but not on the level of button.

ask any makeup or technical efects expert, and they will tell you the same.

as a musician, i thought it sucked... balls. to each his own though

I hate the Oscars. Nothing but the same old crap gets nominated and wins. And what won, some stupid love story garbage. Yeah never saw that before. Who cares if it's set in India. Big deal. Still the same old crap.

The Dark Knight truly is the best movie of 2008. Not just saying 'cause I'm a Super Batman Fan either. It's true!

I think of awards though as I do critics, it's just someone ele's opinion, and coming from people that don't matter and wouldn't know a good movie if it bit 'em on the rear.

All they know is the same old crap. They snubbed it 'cause it's a comic book movie. Even Hugh in his opening song mentioned how Comic movies should be taken seriously. Not all are as serious and as well done as TDK but all of them were good last year, almost all, but TDK was something very special, it went from good comic book movie and stepped over that line into great film.

Oscars are worthless.
