From Lying In The Gutters:

Last week, an advert I wrote for the Churches Advertising Network seemed to get quite a bit of press.

But it will probably be overshadowed by whatever is in "Civil War" #4, shipping this week. Which I understand has major newsworthy content.

If you don't want to be spoiled, don't go on the internet on Tuesday or Wednesday - and probably don't read a newspaper either. Unplug yourself from all media contact until you walk into your local shop on New Comics Day. And put in earplugs until you leave as well, just in case people are talking about it.

Otherwise it'll be Spider-Man unmasking all over again.

Me, I'm on holiday in Weymouth this week. Are there any comic shops in Weymouth?

Ahh..crap..must be someone big..please not MJ, please not MJ..

Thanks! I really appreciate that. I HATE SPOILERS. :yay:

Now, see, if Marvel could keep their yap shut, this wouldn't be a problem. When you literally have to not watch or read any form of media for 48 hours before comic book day, life has become a Living Hell. I mean, how can DC get it right without exposing things for INFINITE CRISIS and Marvel can't keep any spoiler? Granted, considering DC sells at #2, one could say that there's less interest, but c'mon. If DC was intending to publish a comic about, say, Superman kissing another man on-panel, they'd have the same risk of spoilers. But they'd get it right. I'd be willing to bet that.

I mean, do you see FOX ruining every episode of 24 before it airs, to the point where you know what happens in 50% of the episode that has any value? Marvel loves to "hire" people from other medias, yet they never learn a god damned thing about how those "other medias" get some things right, and then imitate it. They're the first on the block to imitate any fad, jack stupid trend and then repeat it, but a GOOD idea? Rarely.

It's simple, really. Tell Marvel's ADS DEPT. to stay away from the internet until Wed. Threaten lawsuits upon anyone who leaks it to another media. There, done. Trust me, in today's day and age, people would rather see their first born choke to death than be threatened with a lawsuit.

I'm going to have to stay off the intranets:csad:

how will I live without making fun of all you people:csad:

On tomorrow's 24....No one listens to Jack and Jack threatens someone

Oh, that's not what I mean and you know. While we're at it, on next week's CSI: MIAMI, someone dies, DNA is involved, and Horatio will put his hands on his hips when he talks. That's not the same as knowing panel-for-panel spoilers days in advance like Marvel loves to do.

Thanks.

And before one of Marvel's apologizers comes in (they know who they are), I'll cop to some responsibility and attempt to avoid sites like Newsarama, Continuum, or links that mention the issue. But if tomorrow's NY POST plasters some big panel image on their front page I'm kinda screwed. And that's not fair. That's the problem.

There is a comic book shop in Weymouth actually.

Not that he reads this forum.

or it'll be on Yahoo like the unmasking

Exactly. I didn't even know it was on Yahoo. I got spoiled on the unmasking from the NEW YORK POST, a newspaper. I didn't even have to buy it, it was on the front cover. If you even GLANCED you'd see it. That's not fair. Neither is Yahoo. People have to check email.

I know not everyone is Marvel's responsibility, but like I said, TV shows like LOST or 24 are far more up the food chain than what happens in a comic book and somehow the media manages not to overly spoil that. Granted, TV usually has bigger guns behind them (no one wants to mess with Disney or Viacom), but Marvel's not as puny as they once were in 1993 and they could try flexing some muscles, too. Paramount is behind Spidey, for instance. Like I said, threaten with the lawyers. It's the best way to get what you want on this planet, besides threatening to enrich uranium.

Blah. Do you know why they don't care? Because it's business, and leaking valuable information about upcoming issues is a very effective business tactic. It's like saying to someone "Hey man, next week Israel is going to absolutely destroy Pakistan with nukes!" You know you're going to tune in to watch it, given that you know what will happen.

I'd rather know ahead of time what's going to happen, so I can know whether to get the comic or not. But alas, different strokes.

well, i emailed Matt over at Newsarama, with a polite request that if he does hear anything about this 'MASSIVE NEWS', and decides to put it on the front page, that he could at least not make whatever-it-is blatantly obvious, and accentuate the spoilerness of it.

I know the big news........Civil War 4 is pushed back

I doubt its as big as anything that has already happened.

unless they kill off Spidey

Gah,I don't care. I'll find out and post a thread bout it for all you people. :)

Death
Human Torch, Johnny goes out to find his sister and gets caught in Thor's attack by accident (confused on why the heroes are fighting)

*note: Cable says that the person who died was a man who participated in the battle (Cable & Deadpool #31) so Mary Jane isn't going to bite it because first of all she is a woman (not a man) and second, she was not in the battle AT ALL, why would she even be there in the first place

*note 2: I bet that Mary Jane will eventually bite it...in Civil War #5!

Betrayal
Invisible Woman, Sue hates rounding up her former collegues. Ben has left the country. Her brother is in a coma (possibly killed). Her husband completely ignores her for Iron Man, Yellowjacket, and the US Government preaching about how great McCarthyism was.

*note: there will probally be another traitor: Spider-Man! Peter hates rounding up his former collegues such as Captain America, Daredevil, and Luke Cage. Also he is starting to get suspicious of Iron Man. However he'll betray Iron Man after Civil War #4, not during it, and join Captain America's Avengers. So I think that he is not the traitor...yet!

ASM535_Cov_Col.jpg

*note 2: I think that there will be more traitors. We've already had Arachne betray the Nefarious Iron Man and the VILE SHIELD (Ms. Marvel #6). We will see another betrayal in Civil War #4 (presumably another "pro"-reg hero). I think that Thor will regain his senses (probally revealing that he was brainwashed somehow by the Dispicable Iron Man and the EVIL SHIELD) and join Captain America's Avengers

New Team Reformed
1. The "West Coast" Avengers (aka the Mighty Avengers): Consisting of Iron Man, Yellowjacket, Wasp, Mr. Fantastic, Spider-Man, the Sentry, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, Thor, and Black Widow, SHIELD's/the government's liason with the Avengers. Spider-Man eventually quits the team to join Captain America's Avengers (aka the New Avengers). Mr. Fantastic eventually leaves due to the personal problems he has (explained in my next prediciton), and Thor gets replaced with Ares

The News Worthy Event
1. The Divorce of Reed Richards and Susan Storm!

And on Law and Order: SVU, girl gets raped and killed.

and which of these things are newsworthy outside of the usual comic book sites....none

The divorce of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman would. These two have been married for decades, had children, and are well known comic book characters.

If the death will make the headlines then the Human Torch's death would certainly be too.

However, both events would link up. The break-up of the Fantastic Four. The Thing...left the country. The Human Torch...dead. Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman...divorced

I don't consider the divorce all that bad. I can go back to fantasizing about a relationship with Mr. Fantastic. He and I could collaborate on so many projects... Such a dream come true. ^_^

You just want him because he can stretch his penis without the need for drinking any Gingold or acting like a complete ****** :o
