Was X3 true to the spirit of the comics?

This isn't about continuity. It's about having the same feel the comics had.

In a way. It featured battle royales. which i really loved in the cartoons and never thought would see in the movies.

yes, casue the x-books have always been about messy storylines and also the action felt like the books.

This movie was more true to the comics than the last two...easily.

I voted no......it was interpreted a little bad

I voted no not because it was a bad movie, because it really and truly didn't feel like an X-Men movie to me. It just felt like a summer blockbuster action movie. Like they tried a story but it was kind of pointless and I didn't care for any of the characters except for Prof X, in his mind battle with Jean, and Jean with her line used in the trailer much better than shown in the movie; "Please...Kill me."
What does that have to do with this movie having the spirit of a comic? This movie didn't feel like an X-Men movie to you because a new director, writer's, production staff, etc...filled in the abandoned shoes of a ship jumper and made THEIR version of the movie. Guess what else...X1 didn't feel like an X-Men movie to a lot of people when it first came out. But do you know what??? We learned too love it after a second installment came out in 2003...and I am sure everyone will do the same if Ratner and company made X4.

Not really. X1 and X2 basically nailed everything in the character department. In X3, we're left wondering what happened to Logan.

The previous two hands down were much more faithful to the characters.

This is what X3 should've been.

Ten bucks says you get a movie fanboi busting your chops with some skewed definition of "comic book adaptation" in 10 minutes.

You are kidding right? How the hell was X1 and X2 true to Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Cyclops, etc...There were just as many main characters that were screwed out of a good story in X1 and X2. We are left with a cliff hanger in every character department in X3 to set up for an X4...X1 and X2 failed to make any connection to Wolverine in the character department of Deathstrike and Sabretooth. Their relation with Logan goes way back...yet they failed to make any hint of it. As for Cyclops, he has been screwed in every X-Men movie...but that does not make X3 any worse. Blame Singer for that...Ratner continued what he started, making Cyclops absent for nearly all of the movie.

Not I...I do wish Scott and Jean would have died together...that would of been a really emotional scene.

How can you have that when Cyclops is miscast and played by a C-list actor.

Let's be realistic High Jackman is the star of these movie and the script needed to reflect that.

X1 and X2 would disagree with you.

I found that James performance in X2 proved that he could handle the emotional complexity of Cyclops and Jean.

I was really moved by his performance and literally choked up watching Scott break down in Logans arms.

However, it's just my opinion and you're welcome to disagree with it.

Cyclops was fine in X1. He had his witty banter with Logan, he blasted Sabertooth twice, and he blasted Magneto. What did he do in X3? Oh right, get killed and have Logan move in on his girl.

Another thing - Sabertooth and Deathstrike were hardly main characters in the X-trilogy.

And in X3, Logan's character development was saving Jean from her Phoenix self. Should I also mention that his character basically developed into a Scott Summers with claws?

No, X3 screwed Cyclops far worse than the other two ever did. At least in X2, he had something to come home to. What the hell is left for him in X3, even if he still is alive? The team forgot about him, Storm is the leader, Xavier thinks he's inadequate and Logan got his girl.

Oh, and the cherry on the cake - Cyke got screwed in a Phoenix story. If he's gonna get screwed in a Phoenix story, lemme tell ya, he's gonna get screwed everywhere else.

At least in X1 and X2 you can argue that their stories weren't Cyke stories. It was fair to accept that Logan had bigger roles, because he brings in more money. But for crying out loud, if you're gonna do a Phoenix story, keep Scott as the male lead. X3 failed utterly at that, and shafted the character worse than any comic, show or movie has ever done and ever will.

True to the spirit? Absolutely. Not to the details, though.

sorry my friend what performance in X2, Cyclops was missing for a good hour of the flick, man what were you watching.

I think x3 was a straight up realistic style translation much like x1 and 2 were.

nope, it wasnt true to the comics, no matter how many times ratner claimed that his writers knew what they were doing!!!

Man, are you reading his post right? He said that James did a fine job with Cyke given what he had. The character's screentime had nothing to do with what he's saying.

Again, the shaft in X3 was astronomical in size compared to anything that happend in X1 and X2. He got replaced by Logan and was killed off within 15 minutes in a story he should be the male lead in, a story about the love of Scott's life (not Logan's).

It doesn't get much worse than that. It's like Superman getting killed off so Batman can beat the crap out of Doomsday and move in on Lois Lane. Like come on! What the hell is Batman doing in a Doomsday story anyway?
