Watchmen Rape Scene Will Be Brutal

it sure looked like rape in the graphic novel.when hooded justice walks in,its after the fact.the comedian says "she wanted it" or something to that affect.then comes the bloody nose.

It would have to stay in. Otherwise it ruins a lot of the personal anger and regret.

No, it wasn't. It's repeatedly said throughout the book that he only tried to rape her. How did it look to you like it happened? The scene clearly plays out with him never actually doing it.

fine.how about attempted rape.better? can we agree that the comedian is a scumbag ,and that he shot a pregnant woman? (debate over a rape scene, new low?)see ya at the movies katsuro.

Well technically attempted rape is better than rape. At least in court. The same way attempted murder lands you in jail for a shorter time than murder. Nobody is arguing that Comedian isnt a scumbag. I merely made the point to show that up to this point there still havent been any rape scenes in comic adaptations. And how is debate over a rape scene a new low? Its not like anyone here has said anything offensive or even discussed rape itself. We are merely discussing how important the scene is in the book and how much it is needed in the film. Calm down.

okay, the comedian violated sally's space.i guess carla gugino has no idea what she says when she says rape scene.but anyway,im just looking for a kickass movie.

Actress Carla Gugino told MTV News that the rape scene in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen will be kept in the film, and it will be brutal.

“It was really brutal. It was brutal to shoot,” Gugino said of the scene, in which the Comedian (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attacks an young Sally Jupiter, who only manages to avoid getting raped by the timely intervention of fellow mask Hooded Justice. “That was one of the things [director] Zack [Snyder] said to me from the start: ‘I really want this to be incredibly brutal. It’s not a turn-on kind of story. It’s bad.’ It’s important that we did that. I think hopefully it will be really powerful.”

A brutal rape scene is not anything new, as I am sure all rapes are brutal. That’s why they are called rapes. Although, the big news here is that the scene will be kept in the movie and it will be the first rape scene in a comic book movie.
No matter how uncomfortable, however, it’s ultimately a scene that really HAS to be in the film, Gugino said, since it influences so much of what comes after: Sally’s retirement from crimefighting, her self-image as a sex-symbol, and, of course, her second, consensual, sexual encounter with the Comedian later on.

“It’s so informative of so many things thematically in the movie and certainly in the graphic novel, not only for this character but for the Comedian and ultimately [her daughter] Laurie,” Gugino said. “Many things stem from that particular situation.”

Yes, curse the English language, MTV!

Anyway, this scene will be brutal because of the beating of Sally Jupiter. There's no actual rape.

What on earth are you talking about? Is it that much of a stretch for "rape scene" to mean "the scene where a guy tries to rape a girl"?

There's definitely a metaphorical rape that occurs, at least in a literary sense.

rape.no rape.attempted rape.near miss .simple assault metaphorical rape..etc whatever it is.

And when Hooded Justice beats him up with the same brutality, he too derives sexual gratification. In some ways so does Nite Owl and I think you could argue Rorschach as well. The Comedian does vile things, so does every other character in the book. They are, all of them, all too human; as all heroes are.

So technically the hooded justice has more physical contact with the comedian than with the chick?

Uhm, I'm not sure what you are asking exactly, but Hooded Justice was in a homosexual relationship with Captain Metropolis and Laurie's attachment to him was a PR move to keep people from finding out about it. The Comedian implies (and HJ's reaction lends credibility to the idea that) Hooded Justice actually gets sexual gratification from beating up men and that this is perhaps his prime motivator rather than a sense of justice or duty.

Sounds like a lot of raping going on.

Wow, I really gotta read the book again.

Yeah, I'm another who completely missed the part that HJ was in a relationship with CM.

It's in one of the letter's in Sally Jupiter's scrapbook appendix.

Ah, cheers, I missed that completely, can't recall last time I read that section tbh, must've just flew out of my memory. Man, I was arrogantly thinking I'd finally picked up on everything in that book, but I must now most humbly pore over it again when I get back home.

Again how is this movie not going to be faithful to the comic? It seems so far that all the real meat of the story is in the movie.

In the book we see Laurie naked twice: Once when she tries to get it on with Dan on the sofa, and again in the owlship after the tenement rescue. Malin doesn't seem to have a big issue with being naked in films, so maybe we have something to look forward to? :D
