Yeah.......thanks for that.

ANYWHO!

Back to the discussion. I hope Keira doesn't sign on, never liked her.

you honestly believe those actors spoke good English

tell me your joking

That's not what I said or what I was implying.

You're were comparing actors who were actually born and raised in Asia to one who has spent most of his life in the US, thus ending up with an American accent.

What some of us are saying is that they could've easily gotten Asian American actors or those who've spent most of their life in the US like John Cho since the cast isn't really going to be the selling point here seeing as how none of them are "stars."

It's pretty much The Last Airbender all over again. The cast could've/should've been of Asian descent (depending on how you look at it), but as big as an issue that may be, there are likely many others.

******NEWS FLASH ******

This just in....it has now been scientifically proven that IT IS possible to debate, discuss, and argue a point WITHOUT BEING RUDE or resorting to name calling. People are allowed to have opinions that differ from yours...they are allowed to say that opinion....and they are allowed to say that opinion without being attacked and called names.

I highly suggest that you guys try that......

Thank you C.Lee it really did need to be said.

Yeah its definitely possible. Unfortunately the chance was never even given.

You are welcome....and I really hope you were paying better attention to it than you are acting. Posturing to look cool doesn't really get you anywhere.

you people were crazy to think they would get asian leads lol

some fans were as delusional to expect a 180 million budget an r rating and an all asian cast lol

keep in mind this is a post watchmen bombing WB they wont take such a risk again - an r ated huge budget uncompromising grahic novel with no name actors in the lead

akira was never gonna get anything but big names or familiar names which s why knightly, oldman,HBC,Hedlund are circling project

Hey, as long as they choose Kurt Russell with an eye patch for the Colonel, I'm fine with this hogwash!

BREAKING: Kristen Stewart Offered Kei In AKIRA

Has Jaume Collet-Sera's Akira found its female lead?

Twitch was the first to bring word of Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter and Garrett Hedlund being offered parts in the Warner Brothers backed US adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's classic manga and now we have learned that Kristen Stewart has been offered the part of Kei, a young medium who becomes the love interest for Kaneda - the role already offered to Hedlund.

Stewart is a choice that makes sense on most levels - she's certainly talented and has name recognition far above most in her generation - but also concerning in that none of the Twilight cast, Stewart included, have been able to find any sort of success outside of that franchise with Twilight fans not caring what any of them do elsewhere and everyone else generally staying away because of the Twilight stigma. Could this break the trend if Stewart accepts? Possibly - that it's more of a support role than a lead will help - but it's a somewhat risky move.

I would see casting Kristen Stewart as attempting to cash in on the Twilight fans but apparently none of those fans gives a damn about the actors outside of Twilight and in fact there's a stigma associated with the actors for being in it?

That's a complete reversal on what I expected to see. Granted my initial thought was she was cast because of Twilight but I see that's also feeding into the stigma part of the article. It turns out it sucks to be associated with Twilight isn't just a joke afterall.

I hope in retaliation, like after the Godzilla tragedy of 1998, Japan waits quietly while this movie is made and then makes their own in a proper fashion.

My reaction? Ffffffffffff. Good lord, WB, don't do this. Keira Knightley. Please.

Yeah you know Ive seen a few things that i like Kristen Stewart in.

But really dont want her for this role especially compared to Keira Knightley

Screw it, let's just get everyone in there.

Jonah Hill
Channing Tatum
Zac Effron
Soundtrack by Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber
Directed by McG

I don't mind Kristen Stewart, she plays emotionally damaged quite well, too bad Kei is a member of a friggin resistance movement, which means her characters probably pretty head strong. I do not picture kristen Stewart. I can totally see Keira Knightley play Kei though.

how would anyone recognize her without her trademark mannequin acting style?

Have you ever seen Zathura? For about half of it she is litterally replaced with a mannequin of herself made by Stan Winston Studios.

Basically, it comes down to this: the reason I have little faith in it is because i do not have any faith in the producers. None of them have produced anything that would hint at them being able to handle the source material. And their incompetence is further evidenced by the decisions they are making. The director they chose has a crappy track record. This needs an auteur. This needs a visionary like Peter Jackson, like Speilberg, like Cameron, hell even someone fresh and hungary like Duncan Jones, Ryan Johnson or even Refn. Someone who at least shows that they can make something thought provoking. Something visually arresting. The choices show that they are just trying to aim for the lowest common denominator. Not trying to make anything other than another bland sterile boring movie.

Not to be disrespectful, but Akira really isn't a masterpiece in term of storytelling. I believe Jaume Collet-Serra can deliver a pretty good movie.

olivia wilde would be a better choice but with hedlund as lead it would be redundant

I wonder whatever happened to the real Kristen? Clearly the mannequin took over her career.

anyway. I don't really have high hopes for this movie to begin with. I don't think it is in the proper hands, and as a fan of the source material, and the animated movie I think this might stink. With the trend of CGI/Green screen and 3D this is probably going to end up looking like Speed Racer.
