WB is Making the Suicide Squad movie

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Suicide Squad’ Creator John Ostrander Explains Who Should Be On Movie Team’s Roster

Last month, the trend toward darker comic book fare in Hollywood seemed to continue with the announcement that DC Comics’ popular supervillain team-up series “Suicide Squad” was headed for the big screen under the guidance of “Sherlock Holmes” producer Dan Lin.

Featuring an ever-changing cast of DC villains forced to fulfill missions for a covert government agency (and often dying in the course of doing so), the “Suicide Squad” series that debuted in 1986 was created by veteran comics writer John Ostrander. I spoke with Ostrander after the recent movie deal announcement to get his thoughts on what a “Suicide Squad” movie should involve — and whether the creator of the team will have a hand in their big-screen debut.

The well-known “Batman,” “Spectre,” “GrimJack” and current “Star Wars: Legacy” comics writer told MTV News that he had only learned of the movie deal that morning, courtesy of the same report that broke the news to the general public. However, he was more than happy to offer up some thoughts on the characters that any faithful adaptation of the “Suicide Squad” series should include on the team’s roster.

“I think that [government liaison to the team] Amanda Waller is a necessity,” said Ostrander. “Ditto for Deadshot, Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, Nightshade, and the original Captain Boomerang.”

While such a lineup of might seem like a tall order, it’s worth noting that none of these characters have appeared in any of DC/Warner Bros’ prior movies — so they could avoid the troubles normally associated with recasting roles. As far as his involvement in the project, Ostrander told MTV that he hasn’t been contacted at this point, but “that doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t in the future (or I will).”

Yet, even with the rights secured, that doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to see Ostrander’s team of unwilling heroes on the big screen — but the popular creator remains optimistic.

“I wish them luck,” said Ostrander. “Having a Squad movie (or several) would be a kick and I think the concept, well executed, would work like gangbusters. I’m full of hope for it.”

Cool. I'd even add Merlyn to this group, and the I think they'd be set.

Never read Suicide Squad, but I hope they contact Ostrander! The fans would appreciate his input, I guess. ;)

Who do you guys think should play Nightshade if she's in?

Never read the comic, but this sounds like it could be damn good. Those characters would seem to work on screen. Don't make new villains, keep the ones in the comic.

The tagline should be something like..."It isn't espionage...it's suicide." or something along those lines. Something cheesy.

I got all y'all beat on the tagline. Five words: "Save The World. Or Die."

"Save The World or Die Trying."

Hmmmmmm. Its cliche but its also very fitting.

How do people feel about putting Catman on the team. Or making Catman a target or something. I just love the relationship that Catman and Deadshot have. Its like a rogue version of Bats and Supes relationship in Batman/Superman

Rosario Dawson as Vixen would be a dream come true for me :D

That's what I was thinking. "Save the world or die." sounds more like the group is being forced into it unwillingly, whereas "... or die trying" sounds more heroic.

Exactly. Save the world with a gun to your freakin head

My cast based on the potential line up. I tried to use casting that I think is reasonable, and it's why I don't have an A lister at every turn, I think these actors are gettable and fit their respective roles in looks, and personality, as well as being good actors.

Jason Statham as Deadshot

CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller (This is like Stewart as Prof X, cannot be messed up)

James Marsters as Count Vertigo

Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger

Great cast, Lobo.

That's a perfect cast, Lobo. Btw, thanks for doing what you did :P. (TMT)

Ugh, does Strathem always have to be suggested for superhero roles? If not Daredevil was worse.

Perfect cast except for Dawson for Vixen IMO. I love Dawson in, let me see, everything, but I can't ignore the fact that in the comics Vixen is full African.

She is, but Dawson is awesome, adds some name value, AND can fill out the costume like no other actress
