WB making $200 Million 3D Battle Of Midway movie

I don't really buy into the whole 3D thing, but I dunno, this kind of excites me. It could be a pretty amazing visual experience.

Ooooh... This should be good!

Why does a movie being made in 3D even news anymore though? Basically every big movie has it now.

200M sounds like a whole heap of money to be spending on making a war epic. Smells like box office disappointment.

The project, however, could hold some promise.

A World War II Movie not produced by Steven Spielberg or Tom Hanks?

:wow:

I'm down for it, I love WWII movies.

but then again, its WB since when do they disappoint at the box office when it comes to big budget movies?

Hope it's at least historically accurate to a reasonable degree. Or better than Pearl Harbor anyway.

How so ?
They're making a movie set on war with naval cruisers as well as WW2 aircrafts. Of course there will be many CGI shots but it's not like Saving Private Ryan . Something this big is going to be expensive.

American WWII movies usually suck and foreign ones don't have to budget. My favourite ones are "Cross of Iron", "Das Boot", "Downfall" and "Die Brucke". "Black Book" is also very good.

200M is a huge budget for any movie. When I see that number and the film in question isn't something that will appeal to kids, doesn't feature a recognizable pop culture icon or isn't some slick, action-oriented fare, I begin wondering how the suits and beancounters let it get this far.

Granted, you could cite the 3D and epic scale as something that might tow toward the action slant, but a war film just doesn't strike me as something that makes a lot of sense to give that kind of budget to unless you push aside an interest in ROI.

Of course, this could be the new Pearl Harbor ...in which case, we'd be that much closer to Armageddon.

I'm very interested in this...if the 3D is done well, this could be a really fun movie.

Speed Racer
Superman Returns
Watchmen

Toss Poseidon in there too, but I'm pretty sure Kane was being sarcastic.

I'm a fan of WWII movies. Unfortuantly I'm not sure about todays audiences.

well I cant wait to see how this goes

I'm not sure if this is a good idea...
200 million? wow.

Oh, I'd like to see how it goes too. One of the things that hampered making decent looking WWII movies for a while was the simple fact that the weapons and locations (as they looked at that time) were disappearing rapidly. Now with the advances with CGI....you can make anything. I've been hoping for a resurgence of movies about the era....this and the Captain America movie may help that happen. I'm just not sure if the teens will watch one that's not about a superhero though.

I hope they make it close to what Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of Our Fathers did, which is my favorite war films of all time(more Iwo Jima, less Flags of Our Fathers). In there they had a mix of CG and live action and it blend so well you cant even notice it

when will shh members realize that its all a hollywood lie that 90% blockbusters have a budget of 150 million? stop looking at Boxofficemojo and look what is on screen.

200 millions for a 3d movie in 2010 or 2011 is 100% normal.

even Benjamin Button was close to 200 millions if not more. Pear Harbor is supposed to be a 140 million(boxofficemojo) movie. yet in july i saw an interview with Bruckheimer and he said that PH was going over 150 millions.

thank you
