So the first negative reviews are up at RT. But with the Top Critics it's still at 100%. Can't wait to see it!

Yates and Rowling skillfully weave their bleak - and very blunt-edged - message into the fabric of the story. It might be wildly out of place in a fantasy aimed at tweens, but it's a welcome change from the usual vapid blockbuster.

"Fantastic Beasts" is transporting, but its themes are far from escapist. It's a film about immigrants who might seem foreign, with different values and ideas, but who just might save us from ourselves. It's about the power of whispering rather than shouting; tenderness and love erasing violence and terror. It's about embracing, not suppressing, one's unique qualities -- in order to hone them into talent and skill. Newt Scamander is indeed the hero who we need right now, and Rowling is the storyteller we need now more than ever.

I haven't seen many CGI complaints like people here had...

I actually read a lot of good word for the CG. Considering the good reviews I say it will get Oscar Nomination for Visual Effects.

CGI in this movie is getting boatloads of compliments. It's one of the topics where pretty much all the critics are agreeing with each other.

I never thought I'd read that sentence.

Well I never thought anything like that will ever cross my mind. :funny: :funny:

I don't mean to be judgemental but she's totally crazy, the lady thinks BvS TC >> BvS UC.

This expansion of the Potterverse offers unreal delights and stark reality in equal measures

The special effects are stellar, and the John Williams score powerful. But the movie seems to lack charisma.

David Yates, who directed the final four Harry Potter movies, returns here – and is immediately in command. The level of detail – right down to a House Elf’s gnarled fingers – is astounding. But this is about more than just special effects or craftsmanship. Redmayne is superb in the lead, and there’s real emotion, comedy and romance in his blossoming friendships.
Fantastic Beasts feels like a complete film, rather than a franchise-starter. Harry Potter fans will be delighted to see that J.K. Rowling has not lost her magic touch.

Umm, John Williams didnt do the score for Fantastic Beasts. James Newton Howard was the composer for this film's score.

Yeah, we all know that.

The reviewer was probably referring to this...

And there’s no denying the magical power of John Williams’ iconic “Harry Potter” theme music, delicately playing over the opening moments

I don't care for Potterverse but if the film in itself is great I'd go see it. Just don't know whether I should trust critics on this one or not...

Take a leap of faith bro.... :D

BTDub, you can always trust Queen Jo.

Director David Yates’ entertaining introduction of awkward hero and magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is a confident and surprisingly funny adventure that’s more charming than most of the eight Harry Potter films.

Newt’s monsters, meanwhile, are kooky and craftily imagined. And though much of the plot feels like foundation-laying for the franchise to follow, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is rich with ideas and imagination, adding ingeniously to the Harry Potter mythos rather than taking away from it.

So that reviewer is basically saying that he is boring and has no imagination. Good to know. :sly:

All jokes aside, I'm really excited for this movie and I hope it delivers. Sometimes the hype can be over the top - while I liked Star Trek Beyond it wasn't a perfect movie by any chance - by reviews you would have thought it was the second best thing after khan.

My favorite will always be First Contact. It will never be dethroned. Not a huge Khan fan as I never watched TOS.

There are many threads to Potter's world across the ocean as Rowling creates their American parallels, like the Thunderbird to Dumbledore's Phoenix. She's crafted an excellent expansion where things feel familiar but not repetitious. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is not only a great family adventure, but one of the most political films of the year.

Grade: A-
