World We Got The Spider-Man 3 Figures In At Toys R Us

Here's what I've picked up --

Lizard
I think this may be my favorite Lizard sculpt - very cool looking.

Venom with capture web
So-so, I guess. I liked this one better than the other Venom that's out. I didn't think too much about him being purple until I saw this thread.

Spider-Man (red/blue) (super-articulated with wall-hanging web)
Perhaps my favorite Spider-Man in my collection. Very vibrant colors and he is posed well.

Spider-Man (black) (super-articulated with wall-hanging web)
Pretty cool black Spider-Man, but not my favorite black Spider-Man. That honor would have to go to the Spider-Man Classics black Spider-Man.

Green Goblin
I really like this! I guess it might matter whether you like the movie GG costume or not. I thought it was a good interpretation of the costume and fit the storyline.

Doc Ock
I picked this one up by itself yesterday at Wal-Mart (got all the rest today at Target). I think it's a good sculpt but WOW! - I compared this to my SM2 Doc Ock and these things are significantly smaller! There's no way they should be charging 8-9 bucks for these! Just wait until the end of summer, they'll be on clearance for no more than 6 bucks.

One thing you should know about me -- I don't remove my figs from the package, so points of articulation don't really matter to me. I'm more concerned about how the fig looks in the package. I sometimes have to hunt to find the right pose and the best paint job; inevitably the most well-painted fig will have an arm/leg/head turned awkwardly.

I'm thinking of maybe passing these up.They don't seem as cool or detailed as the toybiz one for Spider-man 1 or 2.In fact I've seen several of the Spider-man:origins and I've been very unimpressed just like their first wave of Marvel legends.I might just buy the limited editions keep them in the box and call it a day.

My brother picked up New Goblin,Sandman and Venom from KayBee.I have Sandman and Venom.
I think Hasbro needs to stick with Transformers.Once the new ML's hit shelves my friends told me that they sucked and it never occured to me that some of the SM3 toys would suck too.Notice I said some. It's not that they are that bad it's just that the previous lines were better for their articulation and they were larger in scale than this line.I just wanted Venom and Sandman so I bought those.New Goblin is pretty cool and I love Venom.I want TOY BIZ BACK DAMMIT!!!!!

FYI to those who are still thinking about buying the new SM3 series figures:

Target now has the regular figures on sale for $5.99 and the deluxe accessory figures for $8.99, but only through this weekend (or so they say).

These prices are a bit more reasonable for the Hasbro figures so now's a good time to get the ones you want.

I don't know if it's different at different Targets, but at my Target the figures that are not from the movie (GG, Dock Ock, Lizard, etc.) were $7.19, not $5.99. Still better than at Wal-Mart, where they were all $8.76.

Riddle me this: if Wal-Mart has the lowest price, ALWAYS, and their price is $8.76 whereas Target's regular price is $7.99, then how can Wal-Mart's price be lower?

The other day I picked up Black suit Spidey and New Goblin.I may get Quick Change Spidey and after that I'll be done.I think the Sandman I bought is a dud.The button on his back does nothing.Anyone else have the same problem?

Being extremely busy for the past month or so, and down in the dumps for some time before that, it's been a while since I've been to a store with an intent to purchase toys.

But I went to Target yesterday and for the first time in a while I went to the toy section and got excited.

I've got to say, I was never the hugest fan of Marvel Legends(and all the other lines that came with it). Sure, they had great articulation. But for more than half the line, figures were impossible to get. Joints were ALWAYS stuck(and not everyone wants to boil their figures). Paint was sloppy more often than not, and for every great sculpted figure we got a horrible sculpted figure. I was scared to play with them, for when I did, just a slight amount of use turned the joints into flimsy things that would literally fly around in circles. Even a small amount of reposing every now and then would be enough to strip joints. Also, the Spiderman line never seemed quite sure of what it wanted to be- throwing action featues that sucked to quite a few figures.

So imagine my surprise, when walking down the toy isle, to see a shelf full of figures that instantly got me excited.
Every single one of these has an action feature, and quite a few of them had things in the package that got me excited to just run home and open them. They are an inch shorter? So what? We've had to deal with scale changes in the past. And I'm fairly certain there are 1 or 2 "exclusive" figures done up in the old scale just to please you whiners.
The articulation, while considerably less, is enough to make damn fun and posable figures that look good. It's also well thought out, meaningful articulation points.
The paint- above all- is CONSISTANT. And for the most part, it looks very good. The only real thing I have to complain about is the purple venoms, but I picked up one anyway(the one with the giant jaw with goo) and the jaw thing is so cool I don't even give a damn. Also, a black one is supposedly coming, so I'm not worried.

Maybe it's just me, but these figures are awesome. They have no illusions about what they are- they are TOYS, first and foremost. I don't remember the last time I broke toys out of the box and just banged them around, not being concerned if something would break or paint would chip or if I got some weird substance on them. All important factors, considering that these things have very resistant paint, STRONG articulation(after abusing these things for hours they are still just as good as out of the box), and that awesome goo and sand stuff.

It's just a damn fun toyline, one of the most fun I've seen in a long, long time.

Anyone else think the "comic" designed figures could be from the new show? They are quite animated, and very cool. The Kraven figure is probably my pick for the best figure, despite his complete lack of leg articulation. It just rocks.

And seriously, my last word of advice- Pick up a figure or two with goo or sand. This stuff is fun. Especially the sand.

Gotta disagree with that "well thought out" part. Maybe some of the figures I haven't seen out of the packages yet (like Venom, New Goblin and some of the Spideys) are OK in terms of the articulation points. However, the Lizard's head doesn't even turn and his tail stays cocked all the way to the right because of the stupid action feature. Doc Ock has short tentacles and his arms are as bad as Kraven's legs for lack of joints. Green Goblin's ankles aren't articulated, so he's very limited in the way he can stand when he's not on his glider. Very poor planning in the articulation department IMO. Or more likely Hasbro was just trying to cut corners.

I found a 'Venom with Capture Web' at K-Mart for $6.99. I decided to buy it. He does look pretty cool. Maybe I'll get Movie Green Goblin too. Other than that, the figures a pretty cheap and I don't think I'll get anymore than that.

^^^ Where do you live? All the K-Marts I've been to have the figures $8 (on sale), $10 regular price.

Wal-Mart LIES! :cmad:

As far as the different prices in different areas, I'm not sure what the reason is for that. I've been to two different Targets in the Atlanta city area and they are both running the $5.99 sale on the basic SM3 figures - I think its some kind of Easter sale.

Like I said before, they are toys- and every one of your complaints is valid... if I were looking at them as collectables. But I'm not. I don't remember giving a crap when I was a kid if a figure could stand a certain way with the legs posed just right. The point is you can make it stand, and the majority of the time they were being tossed around on the floor and then put in a carry case or a box(but that was me). The Lizard's tail I actually really like, it's a neat non-obtrusive action feature and you can still choose to display it coiled or straight. His lack of a head joint is somewhat dissapointing(as it is my favourite joint) but he just looks so good and is so fun that I don't really care. As for well thought out joints, just look at his hips to see what I'm talking about. Those things are genius. I'm definately willing to give up a little posability for a nice consistant paintjob, sturdy joints, and a figure that I actually want to play with without fear of something happening to it.
And when I'm done, it STILL looks damn good on a shelf.

LOL, I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and now their Spidey figs are all $7.86. Guess they got word that Target was selling them for less!

Someone mentioned that they are releasing another line that are different from the ones that are out right now. Anyone know anything more about this?
