Well, if the next game would use something like the Just cause 2 engine, you could have that. Not several continents, but one would be enough.

You dont need to be flying across continents and space to have a good Superman game and I dont think not having that automatically would ruin a potential title
Im with you on that. And while some might disagree, I'd even be up for some QTEsI'm in the set pieces camp anyway. I don't really want free-roam. If there's a city, I only want it to serve as a background for an epic battle, where you and your opponent knock each other through buildings and make them collapse. I want different locations, wide areas where you can play with your abilities, I want a lot of variety. As Superman you simply shouldn't be trapped in one location.
I dont know. I havent played that. The last Superman game Ive played was The Death and Return of Superman for the SNESLike the Factor 5 game then?

Superman should be able to go in space
Pardon me for a second here, but shouldn't the scale of the explorable environment in a Superman game depend on the story? If the story being told only involves Metropolis, then flying across the planet or into space shouldn't be a factor. Why the hell should I worry about being able to grind my nuts on the Hubble Telescope if the game is about, say, Brainiac attacking Metropolis in an elaborate act of vengeance?
Also, some of the things said about Superman's invulnerability in this thread are just disappointing. I'm seeing posts about Superman's invulnerability making fights against street thugs impossible. Uh, no s***! This isn't a Batman or Spider-Man game. Superman fights powerful aliens, robots, people with experimental weapons, metahumans, magical beings, and other crap that's actually capable of scratching him. You don't need to weaken him or sprinkle kryptonite throughout the city to make a hoard of demons or the armies of Apokalips a regular challenge for Superman.
It should be situational and based around the story. You shouldnt be able to just randomly zip on over to China or Mars just bc Superman theoretically can do that in the booksbecause it's Superman and if I want to do that (which sounds awesome, by the way) I should have the ability to
You don't need to be able to do everything as Superman, just because he's Superman. And expecting to be able to go to outer space and travel the entire globe is just ridiculous. Batman has several vehicle options, just because neither are usable in his game, it doesn't make them any less excellent games.
Honestly, screw free-roam and give me some fantastic set pieces connected together by a tight story. Basically the Uncharted of Superhero games.
I think it's ridiculous you would want a Superman game without being able to feel like Superman.
Batman worked because of the context, he's duped into the Asylum & doesn't have the need to drive anywhere, in Arkham City that whole section of Gotham is walled off, once again canceling his ability to get to his vehicles.
Locking Superman into some sort of "set piece" doesn't even sound fun, and unless he's powered down as others have suggested, what exactly should stop Superman from traveling anywhere he wants to, other than the developers ability to make it happen?
That Ultimate Destruction Hulk game was successful because you could, ultimately, destroy just about everything in sight. For Superman to work, his environment doesn't need to be the whole world, but being able to travel to space isn't too much to ask, Commander Shepard can do that
Haha, and something tells me peopl dont want Superman to fly to space via a menu promptYes, because in Mass Effect you take off in real-time and in-game into space and have badass battles. Oh wait, no. You have loading screens and cutscenes.
One thing that is important to a Superman game, IMO, is the ability to be able to smash the entire place up. I don't want to have to be careful when I fight. I want to bust through walls, see mountains crumble, pick up a train and smash it across someone's face. That's why I'd rather have big varied stages, instead of a single free-roam Metropolis, which at the end of the day people would prefer to still be intact. I want places like the inside of Cadmus, a rocky mountain side, fighting inside and around Brainiacs battleship, fight inside Darkseid's throne room and surrounding areas, fight in an evacuated area of Metropolis when Doomsday runs wild.
Superman should be able to go in space
If its so simple I wonder why WB Interactive has been unable to commission a developer to make this happen?
Just a question seeing as they've been around for 17 years without a successful Superman game...
