wow, i never thought of that! i might go over my design and make some changes.
 
How about making the tank similar to the shape of the bottom of a rocking chair, so it might help with your roll.
 
While we're on the topic of misfires, how will someone prevent one when they are just picking something up with the shooter on? This is the reason why I am using the double-tap system with my microcontroller, but how is everyone else combating this?
 
I'm using the same mechanism in the hidden blade with two modifications.

If you made it out of a tough rigid material maybe. Any added pressure on a compressed tank won't be pretty.

So is there a different way to propel the web fluid? Apparently, if somebody adds too much pressure to a compressed container, it will definately explode. It would be a very dangerous thing to make if some of us are just amatuers or if extra pressure is accidentally applied.
 
To marvel fan: I understand what you are saying. I'm going for a similar situation with a specific valve head. I couldn't see those videos, but you explained it well.

To owl boy: I'm sorry sir, I'm having difficulty reading what you wrote. What I understand is your friend's grandfather is going to get you valve fittings. You want a part list for the blood spider's shooter design? Also, I did build that, but I attempted to make my own valve and it sucked. That was months ago. I'm working on another version of it, but made with professional parts.

to human spider: It depends on what you are using and what you are using it for. If you pressurize it to 115, I don't see an issue. If you try to go to about 190psi you're in trouble, and 200 will do what you saw in the video.


Update: I'm working on a ghetto prototype that can work with any pressure vessel. It can hold 4 oz by itself, 37 oz with a tank, and 20 oz per canister on the waist.

The only limitation is that the wrist cartridge can't connect to the canisters directly, they have to filter through the tank.

I'm getting a small valve that's only about the size of a thumb nail, but can be easily refilled by other valves of the same type. I have the pressure vessel, and I have the valve, but I have to prepare it to attach to the pressure vessel.

All in all this shooter has cost me:

$0.13 two pressure vessels (I kind of cheated on that one)
$3.00 for the valve above. ( I need another one now.)
$5.00 for pipe fittings that I just realize I don't need.

So to make one shooter (for you guys) it would cost about 6$ forgetting about the spinneret, arm band, and other parts that aren't really necessary, but add function.

the only disadvantage so far with this shooter is that it requires you to make a tank. You could bypass that however, by just taking the tank's valve and giving it to the shooter's pressure vessel.

I'll keep you updated, but for now it's just kind of difficult to obtain the valve.
 
does anyone know how to make a "cartridge bracelet"?

Instead of air you could use a can of green gas, it's made of metal and since it is a liquid in the can then evaporates I think it will be more propellant in the can than with compressed air. Also there's a lubricant in it, silicone oil, that might prevent clogs in the webshooter.

You could use the same technique as the iPhone screen when you pull the trigger it detects and electronic puls in your finger

As far as your pressure vessel, what did you use? My design (I'll try to post design specs tomorrow) works like the movies using the valve posted on page 1, and all i need now is a good cartridge/pressure vessel. And they sound cheap, which is better for me and my meager salary. I just got an air compressor for my birthday yesterday, so I was also wondering if I could pressurize the vessel with that, and to what extent (psi)? Also, 4 oz is quite a lot considering the expansion factor of graphene and magnesium oxide. About how big is it?

I'm new here, but I have an idea to solve misfires. I just pmed it to white widow. I'm going to use a spring and locking pin system which would keep the palm lever device inside the webshooter. With a flick of the wrist, the palm lever would go to the palm. I got this idea from a friend who made an assassin's creed cosplay complete with a hidden blade. It would sorta word like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzhK0vho64o

I also have an idea for the nozzles of a shooter. There are those garden hose attachments that when you squeeze a little, water comes out in a conical shape, and when you squeeze alot, it comes out in straight stream. I'm not saying we use water hose attachments in the designs of our webshooters (they are far to big), but it might be worth looking into how they work. It might be a useful upgrade to be able to shoot a web in a cone shape, as well as a straight web. What do you all think?

Welcome nolder! It's good to have someone new joining the project. I had actually considered a mechanism similar to that of a hidden blade for the trigger, but the one I was looking at took two pulls to open and retract. But it is definitely a good idea to keep in mind. And I also used hose attachments in my first prototype. I just had a problem controlling the actual function due to the need for too much modification. Interchangable spinnerets are another future upgrade we could look in to. I would particularly be interested in a web-ball spineret.
 
JMA is that you? It's been forever! I work at a store that sell aluminum bottles that can be turned into pressure vessels (because that is what they are for.) It's been a while. We've moved on from graphene and cyanoacrylate a long time ago. In fact, we're working with cellulose acetate again. charging will be with a bike pump. We can talk about it based on your desires.

as for nolder, I agree, but I don't know how that attachment works.
 
I haven't even started building a webshooter yet. Could maybe a few of you guys make some youtube videos showing your web shooters in action and maybe a close up so I can see the kind of parts I'll need? I want to see what I'm getting myself into haha
 
Please do your research first. All of you guys. You all want to jump into it, but none of you talk about safety procedures or the hazards of pressurizing, or handling chemicals. Acetone can blind a person and could probably knock someone out with the fumes.

I'll do that. My dad's tenant just moved out upstairs, so he bought alot of construction safety equipment. He just bought a big bundle from Homedepot that has work gloves, lab goggles, a clothe respirator mask, and earplugs for I think around $10

EDIT: I have a few questions.

what are the purpose of spinnerets? couldn't we just force the fluid through a tube? Would we need to build them ourselves? I can't seem to find any that are commercially available.

I think I've read that most of you are using co2 to create pressure. I would like to use 12g co2 cartridges because they're so small and have high psi. plus they have a neat Ben Reilly webshooter look :D. What kind of valve should I use?
