World Web shooter shop class - Part 1

I'm sorry, I have to chime in on this one. There is no such thing as centrifugal force. It doesn't exist. Centrifugal implies that there is a mystical force pushing something outward. To date there is not one material that exhibits this property.

What you guys are thinking about it centripetal force. When something spins and can stay in one place, for example, water in a bucket, it is being held in place by a base force, in this case a bucket/rope's insteraction. It's an important distinction. It means that there must be a physical object present to generate that motion. I'll explain the spinneret in the first video. The camera is charging, and I've written the script. It should be ready in a couple hours.

Edit: does anyone know where I can find a simple media editing software for free? I want to give you guys a quality video.

Oh no I didn't mean to imply that the webbing formula itself would create the force. I meant that the spinneret would because it would be rotating.

and to Iron_spider: oh I didn't realize Leren's webshooter had a spinning component. Interesting.

I know, but I want to make sure the terminology is correct.

Ok guys, so it will take a while for me to learn how to edit materials. Here is technically the second video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzrOJ_PPuLk&feature=youtu.be

It won't make as much sense without the first video, but the first one is kind of hard to upload. It explains how to spinneret works, as well as the solenoid trigger.

Once the first one is done, I'll post that on youtube. after about 6 days, I'll post it in the website, but for now I'm not allowed to.

Edit: The first one is done.

tech stuff came in today. all i need now is the appropriate solenoid valves.

Ok, so I have a question for you guys. In the web shooter, how do you want the web to come out? Do you want it to fully come out of the shooter like silly string does? Or do you want part of it to stay in the shooter?

Personally, I would prefer the latter. I would like to be able to yank things towards me with the shooter, without having to catch it at the exact right moment. I rather the web come out like it does in this poster:

If you look closely, you can see that the web is still connected to the shooter. That is what I want to achieve.

The problem is, I'll admit, I have absolutely no idea how. I've been thinking about this for weeks, and I feel like the answer has been staring me in the face, but I just can't see it. For lack of a better way to say this, I'm stuck!

Any ideas, guys?

You really don't want to do that, you want to cut it and hold on to it.
It still being attached can loosen parts and damage your shooter when using it.
Something i'm sure you want to avoid.

That's what I want to be able to do to. I just figured I would let go of the buttons and grab the line before its fully out of the shooter.

I don't understand how it would damage/loosen parts. Could you explain that to me?

But, if that's not possible, maybe there could be some sort of catching and cutting mechanism. I just feel like shooting and catching may prove to be an issue for some people (especially me :P). Hand-eye coordination has never been one of my strong suits...

Easy fix to your situation, move the valve back. If the webbing has to travel in a fluid line, then it can't escape until it passes the spinneret. If it has to travel farther, you have time to catch it.

I didn't say it was impossible...it's very possible. It's just that if you try to yank something with a little weight it might loosen or damage some things.

does anyone know where i can purchase heathkits and miniature solenoid valves for cheap?

I still think something that catches it might be better. How fast do you think the fluid would be coming out of the shooter? I don't know how the speeds will compare, but look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeYS_Tjf7pQ. Generally speaking, if we want to get more distance I would think that ours would be shooting out faster.

Maybe it is just me, but I don't think I'd have enough time to press the trigger and then quickly catch it. Maybe if there was a slight delay, but still. It'd just end up a pile of web on the wall/ground, and nobody wants that.

These are just my thoughts and worries though. It depends on how fast the web is coming out.

edit: Ok, got it. Even if there was a limit to pulling light objects, any ideas?

then theres the whole problem of us trying to catch a web when it's "fluid". Do we have a web formula that will become solid or semi-solid as soon as it leaves the shooter?

Once all the solvents evaporate, it won't be fluid anymore. There will probably be a heating component to speed up the evaporation.

ding ding ding, we have a winner.

I made some modifications to the maximus shooter. The base for it and the triggering mechanism is nearly done.

I had to scrap the pressure vessels that I had, due to a lack of ability to get the valve out of the whipped cream can. I'm using a new one that can be refilled in two ways allowing you to use cannisters, tanks, and the shooter alone alike. The advantage for this is that it is super easy to make. It's like playing with playdoh and drilling a few holes. The disadvantage is that it's going to be a bit pricier than the last model I planned, but only by about ten bucks. Another problem is that the Pressure vessel, by which I will now call PV, is smaller. The new PV can only hold about 2-3 oz vs the four that my other one had. However it's sleeker, easier to make, and easily concealed. I'll post pictures in a few weeks when I get my pay check.

Hey guys, I just found out that my best buddy has Leukemia, a rare type of blood cancer. He will commence with a surgery that has the ability to save him years of pain in the future, but his family is having trouble with medical bills. Is anyone willing to donate 16$ to him so that he can raise enough money for surgery? PM me if you want the donation link.

I can easily develop a new one using the PV material you described. Is it by any chance called Sintra? If not, I'll post something later.

And I'm sorry about your friend. I can't imagine my best friend having cancer. I hope he makes a great recovery.

Hey guy, i'm new here and i want to ask you something about the web shooters :) . Do you have solution for this case:
Will you have enough amount of web string to make it 1 mile length (or more). Hope you will understand me :D
PS. If i have some new ideas about web shooter or web formula i will post them so you can give me some advices what to do :)

I think I may have solved my issue with the catching mechanism. I plan on trying it within a week or two.

I don't know exactly how to explain it... I'll try to draw something up to help understand.

Can someone tell me whic are the general problems of making a web shooter so i can think about them, cuz sometimes i have simple and helpful solutions for difficult problems :)

To JMA610: I think he'll do good. He's got a strong spirit, and the Lord is strong with him. Also, I've never mentioned pvc.

To newstranger: I'd recommend you lower your expectations, and try again. One mile of fluid would have to take about 5-10 cans on the waist. There is a method to do that, but it'll get pricey. Also consider that swinging is unlikely due to imperfections on the surfaces of buildings.

To Iron spider: that's cool. Is it like a bear trap?
