yeah me too lightning. I think Christ the redeemer isn't old enough to be on that list. Plus I'm still confused about the Pyramids of Egypt. Are they technically on the list and shouldn't that make it the 8 wonders of the world? hmm..

New Seven Wonders. Giza's an old Wonder of the world.

Stonehenge isn't that surprising. They're exceeding impressive in context, and definitely landmarks, but looking at them devoid of context they're more weird than anything.

It doesn't matter. Technically it's on the new list just as an honorary candidate because it was on the original list and it's just that damn special.

I'm glad Christ the Redeemer made it. Overall, not too shabby a list Would have liked to see the Easter Island statues, though. And the St. Basil's cathedral. Those have to be my favorites.

I can't believe Mount Rushmore isn't on the list, that thing's going to be standing for thousands if not millions of years.

I can't believe Christ the Redeemer made it. Bunch of bible thumpers probably voted it in at the last minute. It's not even that awe inspiring to look at. :o

Well, Chichen Itza made it. Whatever. It's pretty cool anyway. If anything, the view from the top should be the wonder. THAT takes your breath away.

I think the above landmarks have impacted World history the most. In fact, these particular ones are so renouned that they are the first things to be destroyed in sci-fi/disaster movies like Planet Of The Apes, Armageddon, Independence Day, etc...I mean, think about it: how many times have we seen the Statue Of Liberty's head bouncing across the movie screen?? LOL :p

"Cloverfield"

Stonehenge and The Statues of Easter Island are cool.

So they're saying that New York's Statue of Liberty was at the bottom of the voting lists, which I find to be very intriguing given its high global visibility.

Guys, what is your opinions as to why it received the least number of votes?

Most likely due to how America is viewed to the rest of the world.

I can't believe Christ was chosen. It's nice, but...a wonder of the world? Not really. Angkor Wat, Stonehenge, there are so many other beautiful things.

I'm Brazilian, but...that's just wrong.

I'm glad the Chichen Itza, Colosseum, taj Mahal, Great Wall and Machu Picchu made it though.
Also glad that Eiffel Tower and Liberty Statue didn't make it. They are like the Christ: not really worth or old enough.

Yeah I don't get why Christ The Redeemer got in either. I would have rather seen the Statues of Easter Island, Stonehenge or the Kremlin in its place. Those places say a lot more visually to me. :o

It's not even that "wonder"ful; it obviously got through purely on the strength of religious sentiment...which is kinda wrong IMO.

I don't even think it was the religious sentiment. It was purely the huge, senseless advertising it got here in Brazil. It was nasty how they went asking for votes on TV. Most people who voted must'nt even have taken a look at the other candidates. Most people voted because it "was" in Brazil, not because of the Christ per se. If we had a huge statue featuring any other person, a favela terrorist or a piece of ****, maybe people would vote the same way.

I'm actually very pissed at this, and yet it kinda figuratively represents how Catholic church has been acting through History with all the "advertising". I'm Catholic, but...the hypocrisy of some things is unbelievable. This should be merely a beauty, Historic importance voting, and yet a statue that represents nothing to History was chosen.

Is that how it went down over there? Okay, now I'm really disgusted. :cmad:

No wonder the articles said that there was a sudden surge of votes towards the end--it was all hype kicking in. :down

Indeed. This competition should get cancelled, and for the semi-cheating, the Christ should stay out of the nominees this time. :oldrazz:

if the statue of liberty was a lot bigger and was still gold, it would be a lot nicer

I gotta admit, I was surprised to see Christ The Redeemer make the cut over the Stonehenge. Doesn't it mysteriousness make it more of a. . .wonder?:o

is the zeus statue still around? or is it destroyed?

and what happend to the colossus statue? how was it destory?? have they found any parts from it??

Those were all wrecked centuries ago TK.

And I agree with you Kmack...I'm dissapointed that Stonehenge got cut in favor of....Jesus.
