Welcome to Earth One!

You know i never did pay attention to the fact this Batman shows his eye pupils. Guess i'm just used to it from all the movies and games. ;)

Both are must buys as far as I'm concerned. Davis is a good artist, and JMS loves Superman. And even though I cant trust Johns not to write a Batman who's not a prick, the fact that Frank is drawing has me excited. That and the fact that when they decided to do a modern, iconic take on DC heroes, they were smart enough to give Batman back his oval symbol.

These books are going to be classics and what is even better is that if they chose to do a JLA book or some type of big event it can be self contained and wont mess anything up because the other books could take a break during those times.

Two things I'm hoping for in this new universe are: Kal-El being Krypton's Lone Survivor and Bruce not having any kid sidekicks.

P.S I love the new Batsuit.

I can agree with on Kal-El but I think Bruce and Dick need each other. Now I agree that Robin should not show up for a while but he still needs to be there.

Geoff Johns is too much of a nostalgia fan to NOT add Robin, but yeah let this focus on Batman for now and when Geoff feels that Robin should/should not be added, let it happen so then.

Amen to that. Both must buys for me even if I do have about six different Superman origin stories in various formats.

What I wouldn't even mind is if Johns adds Dick in the story but waits till later to turn him into Robin. Somewhat like what was done in Batman: TAS.

i HATE the oval symbol

I'm no fan of the oval either, but strangely enough, it seems to work for this suit here, and I don't mind it. Maybe it's the fact that it's raised as opposed to just printed on. Wish they'd drawn Superman's symbol raised for his Earth-1 book as well. It adds to the whole "modern, polished" asthetic.

that suit doesnt work IMO... i kinda hate it

Great. You have this entire decade and 130123249934242 different comics where bats appears without it :yay:. I'm just glad they decided to throw us oval fans a bone in this case.

just doesnt make sense to me for a guy who tries to stay in the shadows and instill fear... only time it worked for me was when it was stated that he used it to draw gunfire to the most armored part of his chest

The oval should light up like Iron Man lol

I'm loving the badass Alfred.

The oval's fine. I don't personally like it because I draw and the bat within the oval feels like it has an awkward shape when I draw it. The non-oval bat feels much more imposing and creepy, rather than cramped and crammed into a small oval.

But like The Batman said, we non-oval fans got like a solid decade of non-oval goodness, so I'm cool if it comes back.

Well, I really gotta give DC credit, it's really cool how they're experimenting with all kinds of storytelling and publishing when it comes to their superhero titles. Finally we get two American titles that actually write for trade rather than "writing for trade".

As for the actual creative direction of the series... This ability to tell altered stories and origins is what the DCU has been about since the inception of Barry Allen's flash, and it's great to see DC finally starting to explore it now that the multiple earths have returned. That said, a "modernized" Batman and Superman is a cliche direction to go in, but they are what sells, so I can hardly blame DC for using them.

What I really hope is that this opens up the doors for that Grant Morrison project that everyone's been talking about since Infinite Crisis. Zany, crazy, wacky alternate Earth stories that are more bizarre than anything else. That's what I'm looking forward to.

Oh, and I think I might cry tears of joy when I see Gary Frank drawing a Batman story. Just those teasers look phenomenal. And it's nice not to see Christopher Reeve's face on every other page. :o

For a large part of his history, Batman really didn't do the whole shadowy fear mongerer thing. And that period is what the oval has always kind of been attached to.

It should have an off-on switch so he can creep up on people when it's dark and then hit the switch and BOOM everyone's blinded.

I'll be getting the Superman one for sure, I've been disillusioned with the current superman books. I have one question though, is Superman weaker in this book or same power levels as he is now?

I don't think we've gotten such specific information about the content yet. My guess is that he'll be stronger, if anything. It's a new continuity that doesn't have to worry about other heroes or even, to some extent, the world. Superman has the kind of fights that devastate small nations? Sure, why not? It's not like the Outsiders, the JLA, the Titans, and every other hero are gonna be around to help him out and minimize damage this time around. That world exists on one set of creators' terms, which makes an absurdly powerful Superman much easier to work with.

THAT is what I want and I guess one of the reasons why I enjoyed ASS so much. He was incredibly powerful and yet it worked, I hope JMS can deliver a great Superman story been wanting to read one for months now.:yay:

Call me crazy, but I just pictured a scene like this in my head, where it's pitch black and a bunch of crooks hear Batman, but don't see him, and all of a sudden, everything gets real quiet and ...BAM!!! Bat logo comes to life, glowing bright white, looking like the suits in the trailer for the new TRON movie. Thugs freak out, Batman dishes out the pwn.

Kinda reminds me a bit of the beginning of Punisher: Warzone, and the idea seems a little more Green Lantern-ish, but I'd still love to see it.

...maybe in an elseworlds future Batman story (non- Batman Beyond).
