This was a great book. It gives us a fresh take on Superman and from a Superman reader lets you know that this is a totally different Superman. I think the main thing people expected was that Clark Kent should have never struggled with the idea of becoming Superman. However this book does the opposite and shows and explains why. The only thing I thought missing from the book was Lex Luthor. I thought he would have at least had a cameo similar to like Man of Steel #2 but he wasn't even in this book. I am looking forward to the rest of the line but mainly volume #2 of this series they did leave it open for a sequel and the villain of the book was alright to my surprise.

of course they left it open to a sequel, it's the first in a planned series of ogn's sharing this continuity.:oldrazz:

No meaning with the history of Krypton. I also can't wait till they reintroduce Lana as well I would love to see how he grew up on Smallville as well.

Eh, I don't see much need for Clark to 'struggle' with becoming Superman. I like the fact that Superman's like, 'Hey, I'm got great power, I should use it for the sake of good' without brooding, whining, trying and failing to use it bad/selfish. Unless it's like the 'struggle' that Morrison utilized in All Star Superman, still kind of unnecessary, but not really heavy-handed or silly.

But for New Earth Superman (current Superman) it is strongly hinted that Brainiac was the cause for Krypton destruction.

Well, I don't like it there either then. It's a bad idea whenever it's done. And Rao going nova instead of Krypton blowing up and Rao not being destroyed is moar gospel according to Dick Donner since Geoff Johns is a friend of his and I say a big "meh" to that.

That might be true about Superman as a character, but he constantly has talked about how he wants to make Daily Bugle more "real" since he was a journalist and "knows better than anyone else in comics" how newspapers work.

I think Clark should be shown doing all kinds of reporting myself, I-Reporting, sending tweets, FB, everything you see journalists doing nowadays. A journalist as big time as he is wouldn't be restricted to just writing newspaper stories in a time that print media is in decline and papers everywhere are shutting down. That doesn't mean he should be anchoring the 6 O'clock news on GBS like he did in the 70's, but they should update him past just writing stories in the Planet. And they've done some of that, but they should keep it coming. That a real evolution of a character and a believable depiction of a changing field.

Just so you guys know, pick up a copy while you can. My comic shop didn't realize what they weren't ordering...even though I asked about five months back; and, when they tried to get one today, it's already being back ordered for second printings. Luckily, another shop got in four...and, I was able to get one. (They must have had more than one call; because, they also tried to order more, and mentioned about the back order to me, also.)

I haven't read it yet; but, excited to get around to it. (I almost don't want to take it out of the protective wrap.)

Did not really dig Superman Earth One

It was better than Grounded though

I think JMS is not even behind his own take. He's just doing it because he feels that will make it popular.

Straczynski, go forth and fetch me that TWILIGHT DOLLAR!!

JMS' ego is as bloated as his face, and his wallet! At least he's not gettin my money.:woot:

Broody *****ebag Superman is so shamefully goddamn overdone at this point that it would actually be refreshing to see an origin story where he's just like "so hey I'm actually a chillin' dude and oh check it out I have ballin' superpowers, guess I'll go like, help people with 'em"

Actually i would argue that "so hey I'm actually a chillin' dude and oh check it out I have ballin' superpowers, guess I'll go like, help people with 'em" Superman has been overdone. When has Superman ever been conflicted about what to do with his powers? In almost every iteration, he decides to help people and use em for good right off the bat. I dont think a conflicted superman has really ever been explored.

I think that STAS having Brainiac be somewhat responsible for the destruction of Kryptonian society was done brilliantly.

That would be awesome.

That owned BUT it owned because Krypton would have blown up anyway, the only thing it did was explain why Krypton's rulers weren't listening to their best scientist saying "the planet is going to literally explode and kill all of you, like, tomorrow."

They should have him start out doing reporting

Then go like "this is ********, ya'll sellin' out to THE MAN"

Then start a blog

EDIT: Clark Kent should work for Wikileaks.

lol, so true...

Excellent distinction.

Well, you can also get it right now through Amazon for less than 10 bucks. It seems to be not in stock until November 1st, but not a big delay for over half off.

I had ordered my copy a few weeks ago if this, Amazon still hasn't shipped it, pretty disappointed.

I've read quite a few peoples reviews (people who have actually read the graphic novel.) and most seem to like this new take on Superman.

I kind of think most people made up their mind heading into this anyway, to be honest.

Just what wee need, a Clark Kent who puts people who assist American Soldiers in danger by revealing their names on the internet.

I know. I am really, really sick of that junk.

Yeah, it was more a case of negligence and not direct destruction. In the Silver Age, Jor-El had an escape craft close to completion but the scientist he was building it with needed to bujild it in Kandor for the fuel system and Brainiac of course stole the city, so there was precedent of a sort.

:hehe:

I picked up the book today. Loved it. Everything about it was fresh. I like the fact that Clark could have taken any job he wanted but chose the Planet because of the bravery that Lois/Jimmy displayed during the battle.

I've heard conflicting reports, is this a one shot or will there be more Superman: Earth One books released?

I've also heard Batman is scheduled for Nov 2011. Is this true? Seems like a long wait for a book.

I kind of think most people made up their mind heading into this anyway, to be honest.

That could be said about everything.:o

Ah well at least, Batman will clean up this mess in 6 months, as his franchise always does after they blow it with Superman.

im so sick of conflicted self doubting superman. he's SUPERMAN! not MANwithSUPERpowers. yeah having him all idealized and super powered and confident and true blue sets him up to be able to defeat just about any obstacle....but its the adventure to the victory that makes it so much fun. i dont need him second guessing himself the whole time. his confidence should be as super as his powers. i mean, batman is more confident than superman and all he's got is a belt, kung-fu, and a cave.

I know, it's disgusting. I am certain that in his Earth: One book Batman will not be a self-doubting emo wuss.

well apparently batman earth one is going to be first year batman being all amateur and making mistakes and stuff like that. and while thats been far less overdone than self doubting superman, i dont really care to see amateur batman either. its been done and i dont really need it again.
