Oh ok...is that good by today's standards? I cant tell anymore. lol

#2 had 10,000 copies sold in September, but the total amount of that trade is well over 130,000 copies. This being the 1st Walking Dead trade. :p So yeah it's a optimistic start definatly, considering some IDW comic only sold 7,000 copies, wheres Superman being Superman got nice 16,000. Brian Azzarello and Bermejo Lee's Luthor HC only managed to get below 3,000 copies.

I see, thats not so bad then. Although, the thing is Robert Kirkman is prolly making way more of a profit for himself off of walking dead since its creator owned as opposed to JMS cause he's using a corporate character. Not that it matters but i wonder how much of the profit JMS sees since he's doing strictly OGN's now?

I'm not sure, but he said he was taking a 75% pay cut to tell better stories when interviewed about switching from monthlies to graphic novels. But he writes for movies and TV as well.

So wait, what are you saying? The 1st Walking Dead trade sold 130,000 copies last month.

And hadn't that Luthor book been out for a year or two in TPB...?

you kidding? much as many, myself included, may hate it, ogn's ARE the future. just compare the crowd at your lcs to the crowd of kids standing around the manga/gn section of your book store.

Well, when you consider roughly 90% of the stuff those kids are looking at are actually collected material from monthlies, and in the case of manga weeklies, yeah. And it's not as if OGNs are all that new, they've been doing them for decades in some form or shape now. Monthlies aren't going to vanish anytime soon, and probably never will. Even if it comes to the extent where they have presidence, they'll still be certain titles that will have some kind of monthly equivalent before the fact.

I'm just giving comparisons to the number 1 and number 2 most selling Graphical Novels. Superman Earth One is having a good start and can climb up to the ranks of lets say Walking Dead, Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim sale numbers sooner or later.

Yeah Lex Luthor: Man of Steel softcover has been out for 5 years, but they released a Hardcover simply titled Luthor with like 5-10 new pages and other extra content.

I gotta admit: when I first started reading comics, I started with GNs and then later moved on to issues. I really preferred the GN's in the end. Mainly because it was obviously longer, and I was able to read the entire story right there instead of having to keep up with buying multiple issues of different comics.

So i actually finally bought and read Superman earth one today and....i liked it. Liked it not loved it. You could tell Stracynski was trying to make it big and epic but something about it was just a little...off. Part of it was Shane Davis' art. It was really good in some places but there were alot of places were it just felt awkward. There were several panels where i couldnt tell what was going on (like where the Tyrell gets impaled at the end, i cant for the life of me tell whats going on in that panel). Davis is a good artist but i think they could've found someone better suited to a title like this. Someone like John Cassaday would've knocked this outta the park.

Even though it was a 120+ story, it felt very rushed. The alien invasion kinda came outta nowhere with no real build up and i feel like we didnt really get to know Clark enough. He seemed really quiet throughout the whole story to me. He didnt really show a wide range of emotions either. I felt like the moment where Clark learned that Tyrell had destroyed his home planet should have been a powerful moment and one that enraged Superman. (Btw, i actually really dig the idea of someone destroying Krypton instead of it blowing up by itself). But when it was revealed, Superman kind of acted like "Oh you destroyed Krypton? Hmph." There was no anger, or rage or any sort of emotion there. That should've been the moment where the reader's like "OH S***! Superman's pissed! Tyrell's gonna get it!" JMS failed to deliver on that end.

But with all that said, i enjoyed the book. I think JMS is capable of much better and with a character like Superman, i think this should be second nature for him to write. It was a good introduction, and i really dug the interactions with Ma and Pa Kent. The Daily Planet scenes were good too. But i wish the 'Superman' scenes were more epic and more emotional. Clark just felt very quiet in this story and i couldnt tell what he was thinking alot of the time. I hope in volume 2, JMS can kick it into high gear and hopefully Shane Davis gets a better groove going.

I actually liked that Clark wasn't that attached to Krypton, he didn't know about his homeworld until this invasion, why should he be emotional over it's destruction? Tyrell was threatening his true home and that's what got him to put on the costume and become Superman.

Ok true, but regardless didnt you feel like Superman was just very, i dunno, passive throughout the whole invasion? I feel like he said a total of three sentences throughout the entire ordeal. Maybe its just me, but i wanted to feel Superman's anger and emotion and the lack of dialogue or internal monologue made it hard for me to do that.

Yeah, I agree that he was kind of subdued but Superman doesn't have to be angry to save the World. Maybe we'll see more emotion from him whenever an enemy goes after his loved ones.

If anything it would be nice if he like said somewhere "look I actually don't know **** about Krypton but I happen to give a **** pretty hard about Earth so how about you get the **** off it."

Honestly, i would have clapped if he said that. lol

I'm not too keen on Geoff Johns writing Batman. He's one of the last writers i'd expect to see on a batman book but hey, he may surprise me.

I think a lot of fans are tepid about him writing the book, but he's basically the top of the charts for sales right now, and Guy Frank is pretty big in his own right, too. I'll be fairly surprised if it doesn't at least see the Superman numbers.

And it probably will do superman numbers, it just seems like a strange team to do batman is all. I love Gary Frank's work but i would've liked to see someone along the lines of J.H. Williams doing this kind of book or any other artist that could capture the dark feeling of batman's world. Gary Frank is great for superman im not sure bout bats though.

I'd be surprised if it didnt beat Superman, honestly. Batman is top dog right now. I can see this being an "All Star" type of situation where the batbook does beter in numbers, but the superman book is better in quality.

Well one thing's for sure, there no way in hell batman earth one can be worse than All Star.

You haven't seen the reactions on the news regarding Batman: Earth One? Bruce is a spoiled brat, shouts and argues with the war-hardened veteran Alfred. Gadgets and the Batmobile aren't working whatsoever and god knows what else, added with the ridicilous rumour that Geoff Johns has no personal interest of writing Batman, but is solely and solely doing this for Gary Frank makes SHH whine like hell about Earth One. God knows what happens when the finished product comes and if it has Batman crying or crapping his pants, you'll see this forum explode ten times more than the that time Kevin Smith had Batman pee his pants or Morrison's Inc Reveal news on the Batman speficic forums.

Thats all true but dude..... Frank Miller's All star batman is an absolute catastrophe of a comic book. The guy had batman paint an entire room yellow and drinking lemonade just to mess with Green Lantern, that was literally an entire issue. I'll take Geoff John's amateur, whiny Batman over that any day. lol

I thought the Green Lantern scene was absolutely hilarious. Not to mention it gives the birth of the friendship that Hal and Batman began. The scene is even funnier considering that Batman ends up begging Hal Jordan to stay on Earth and help him out, but Hal refuses and leaves Earth. Ultimately Batman contacts Hal again in TDKSA and the quote "ofcourse we're criminals. we've always been criminals" that Batman told the first time he meets Hal Jordan gets used by Hal.
