I don't even think that's especially realistic. I mean, I would assume a super powered do-gooder would get a very mixed reaction, but that's kind of my point: mixed. There would be just as many people who are scared of him as there would be people dropping to their knees and proclaiming him to the the second coming. And there would be even more people who are simply wearily distrustful of him or think he's really cool but a complete shock to the system.

Oh, no, I'm pretty convinced if some super being like Superman with that kind of power came down, the majority of people would be scared pretty ****less of him in one way or another.

I'm just tired of this kind of stuff, in general. It's more of a Marvel thing but seems to have seeped into DC a lot as of late, too. You don't have to have anyone go, 'Ra-Ra, go go GO!', but the whole 'He just saved our planet...I bet he did as a set up, and he's with the guys he just beat!' stuff has worn out its welcome for me.

Why? History has shown that the general population to a huge, game changing event tends to be very mixed, especially one that was not obviously destructive of malicious in nature. If a super powered being who, from all outside inspection, seemed like someone trying to help others, then people would be terried of him and declaring him the messiah in equal measure, with more generally distrustful or optimistic people in the middle. Public opinion would shift based on the individuals actions and how the media spins it, but to say that the majority of people would be scared ****less and distrustful right off seems like a very unrealistic idea of what people are like. Thet're more varried than that. They're more complex than that.

So, yeah. Why?

I mean, honestly, it's kind of common sense. I'm sure they'd be some cult like statuses that would surround him, but I think the majority of people would be wary, at best, outright militant against him/her, at worse.

I'm not saying that everyone would adore him, but I doubt there would be a universal or even near universal reaction, as people are not universal. You honestly think that if an individual only ever showed themselves to be trying to help people, that almost everyone would hate him or her regardless? I think there would be fear and distrust, but it would probably be a much more controversial issue. And which way general public opinion leans would depend on this individual's actions and how various media outlets choose to spin it. Because of that, it seems reasonable that public opinion might shift between the extremes a lot, but to say that almost everyone would be fearful and distrustful seems like an oversimplification of how people work. It's exceedingly rare for the human race to be in consensus or near consensus about anything.

Well, yes, you're talking about over time; I was talking about initially, though I don't think it'd have all that much time to develop, something would probably come to a head quickly. The majority of people are pretty afraid of the unknown, and things they can't fully comprehend. Honestly, I doubt humanity is really even ready for a theoretical out in the open alien encounter without it causing an amazing amount of fear, much less someone who could probably take over the world over the weekend. Sure, even initially there may some support, but truthfully, I think the rather vast majority of people would not be positively receptive in the least.

Though, you seem to have human behavior more figured out than I, so I guess I don't really know anything about it.

I mean Superman: Earth One is already getting a sequel and they seem to be pretty far along in that and we've yet to hear anything about Batman: Earth One since the line was announced. Johns and Frank need to either get their act together or step aside and let a new team take over the book.

I think generally DC is approaching this somewhat slowly. Not slowly for the sake of sales, but more so in not wanting to break the bank all that quickly.

That is true, but I think they want to try and keep the 'this is all new!' thing going as long as they can. I mean, it's going to hit that wall eventually, but in keeping it slower and steadier they can at least keep the feel of it still being new longer.

Though, yeah, they do risk losing that momentum like they basically did with All Star. It's a fine rope to walk, I think.

It was suppose to be two of each book a year. So for example if Superman came out in Jan you would have seen the next book in June same goes for Batman as well.

We were suppose to get one book a month is the plan anyways.

Nah, even Gary Frank has admitted on being slow. I mean he has to do 120 pages, and i mean i think in August 2010 (which is 9 months after announcement i think) he had done about 16 pages?

David S. Goyer liked Earth One, but when he wrote the introduction to Superman: Secret Origin, he cited how Geoff Johns work on Superman is helping him in writing the Superman movie script.

Well we know Goyer at least looked at Earth One, considering he's quoted on the back of the book, calling the text, "accessible, fresh" and "humanistic."

Yeah, but he's specifically noted at one point that Secret Origin had some influence on the script, and not said anything to that effect about EO. It may have, but he's not noted it. I kind of hope it hasn't, anyway. It was an enjoyable story and all, but I'd rather see a more classic take on the character.

While I enjoyed the book for what it was, I agree completely. I would never want to see this as a movie unless it was a DCA movie. Even then I would want it way later on lol.
