Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch”

Schwartzman isn't a surprise. In fact, I would have been surprised if he wasn't in it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Anderson’s films, but this guy seems to rarely cast POC.
Yeah, he's undeniably brilliant, but the man has to have the whitest filmography in Hollywood. Outside of Danny Glover and Tony Revolori in one film each and *kind of* Benico del Toro, I can't remember any significant POC cast members that he's worked with. And as crazy talented as the next crew is shaping up to be, that line-up is AGGRESSIVELY white.

Which is a shame, because besides Revolori and Glover needing to come back, there's a lot of actors who would be really brilliant in his style that have been overlooked - Dev Patel, Eddie Murphy, Diego Luna, Lakieth Stanfield, Mos Def, Ruth Negga, Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, Salma Hayek, Whoopie Goldberg, Kelly Marie Tran all really quickly come to mind.

Wes Anderson has an interracial romance in everyone of his films besides Fantastic Mr Fox and Moonrise Kingdom

Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr Fox are in fact, the only films of his to not feature a POC in a major role.

I guess it's been too long since I've seen his movies. The roles I mentioned are the only significant ones I remembered.
He's going to have Jeffrey Wright, Lyna Khoudri and Steve Park in the French Dispatch.
I had forgotten that. Hopefully they have major parts, Wright especially seems perfect for an Anderson movie.

Define "major". I would hardly consider Glover in The Royal Tenenbaums as more than an extended cameo, similar with Ahluwalia and Jorge in Life Aquatic. I just think there are plenty of great actors of color that seem to be missing when Anderson is casting. What makes it more odd is the new film is set in Spain, I presume based on it's filming location, but not a single actor so far is of Spanish descent.

Glover is way more than an extended cameo in Tenenbaums. He has just as big a role as Bill Murray. He's on the poster. Ahluwalia and Jorge in Life Aquatic have important roles in Life Aquatic too, they're there almost the entire time, Jorge has whole scenes dedicated to his songs!

Also, aren't they like only four actors in the new one so far? Don't need to burn it down just yet.

Okay, I am very excited by the prospect of Wright becoming an Anderson regular. His voice with Anderson's scripts...

When I first heard he was cast in the French Dispatch my first thought was "he's the right fit in one of these movies"

You know it makes me wonder how does Wes Andererson always seems to get these Fantastic Cast members for his movies. Seems like every Movie I've seen of his he has a Stellar Cast.
