what are cable's powers/abilities nowadays??

He cant heal himself.

Unless you injure his hands. First thing he ever did with his powers was heal a cut on his hand without trying.

given that Elixir's abilities apparently require physical contact, I personally dont think it makes him TOO powerfull. I mean it's not really much worse than Rogue's abilities.

If you dont want him to mutate you into some sort of freak or kill you or take your powers or whatever, just throw a rock at him. He cant heal himself.

He doesnt need physical contact to heal. He has done so through clothign. He does need within very close proximity though

And yes he can heal himself. He turned gold after he healed himself after being mauled by Wolfsbane. And as stated, his very first appearance involved him healing his own hand after being cut. What the writers unforutnetly did to do with him is have him knocked out during battle bc he is a convenient way to protect and save everyone
