What are the best titles out now that don't involve SUPERHEROES ?
this thread is open for ideas, suggestions and recommendations

Depends on how you define superheroes. Most indie snobs define superhero comics as any comic about a single protagonist engaged in some form of combat with hostile opponents. Reasonable human beings, on the other hand, define superhero comics as comics about actual superheroes. If you're a reasonable human being, then check out Jonah Hex and...well, OK, that's about it, really.

If we're counting Wildstorm and Vertigo, then Constantine: Hellblazer and Ex Machina are quite good comics that are.... well let's just say less bound by conventional superhero trappings than other comic books.

Does Swamp Thing count? I'd add that. I'd say also that From Hell is an amazing work, and arguably Alan Moore's deepest, though it is a little boring at times. I don't remember a lot of the books I own. Someone will eventually say We3, let me say, it is entertaining but not as amazing as some people would say...

But those aren't exactly current. I'd add to fifthfiend's post that if we're counting Vertigo, you can pretty much pick up any title they publish and be satisfied. Army@Love is/was Godawful (don't know if it's still coming out or not), and there have been a few other flops, but for most everything Vertigo's published, if I haven't read and enjoyed it, it's a matter of not having the cash and not having the time to automatically pick up and read every issue they put out.

DMZ, Scalped, Northlanders, House of Mystery, and Fables are all fun, non-superhero comics coming out of DC's Vertigo imprint. Under the main DC banner, there's really not much non-superhero fare. Just Jonah Hex and The Spirit, I think.

Y-The Last Man recently ended so you can pick up the entire series.

Not a contiunual book but a great one shot.

You can't post images from your hard drive directly onto the Hype. You'd have to upload it to an image host like Photobucket or make it an attachment to the post.

However, it is a true fact that Uncle Sam was good.

Was it connected to the superhero character at all? All I remember about it is the Ross covers.

Not really. It was simply a look at American society through the eyes of a man who may or may not be the living personification of America. However, some recent portrayals of Uncle Sam in DC super hero books had him in a similar situation as Sam in Ross' book, and nothing about the book really contradicted the main DCU (any more than any intentionally incongruous depictions of mystical beings in the DCU do), so one could make the arguement either way. Doesn't really matter, though.

Jonah Hex, Sandman, We3.

Those are just my favorites.

Aside from what's been named Checkmate while featuring a couple of superheroes is more of a spy book and a good one at that. On the Wildstorm front you got Desolation Jones on the Vertigo side you got Loveless and 100 Bullets and I haven't read it in a bit but American Virgin also had a good start.

That's true. I just didn't want to get any hopes up that they're still ongoing.

I didn't care for Loveless. I prefer to get my Western fix from Mr. Hex.

Totally, Loveless just didn't click with me.

I've not read it and I've only just thought is Scalped anything to do with Scalphunter?

No. It's about Organized crime on an Indian reservation or something.
