One of the most common Star Wars debates is what is meant when it is said that Anakin will, "bring balance to the Force.' However, on the 1997 Special Edition VHS tapes, Lucas actually explains it....

"Which brings us up to the films 4, 5, and 6, in which Anakin's offspring redeem him and allow him to fulfill the prophecy where he brings Balance to the Force by doing away with the Sith and getting rid of evil in the universe..."

another STar Wars thread... o well... still the best movie franchise of all time in my book... I always thought Anakin was the chosen one for his actions in RotJ... hasn't that been accepted as the fact for some time right now?

Everyone knows Anakin is the Chosen One, but there is always confusion as to what exactly is meant by brining balance to the Force.

I always figured he "balanced" the Force by pretty much making the numbers of Jedi and Sith equal.

Of course we're talking about Star Wars. This is the internet. :)

I always thought Balance meant the end of the Sith completely... I think a common misinterpretation meant that the dark side had to always be there for balance... I think it is the dark side itself that creates the imbalance in the force... with the Sith gone.. the balance is all but restored.

It's more like the Force is the universe's 'chi' , if you will. The Sith are disturbances of the 'chi'. With the Sith gone, the universe's 'chi' is calmed and balanced.

Yeah, that's what I always assumed.

You can't have good without evil.

Well there's plenty of evil that exists, but doesn't disturb the Force. For instance Jabba, Dr. Evazan, and Sebulba were evil, heartless sob's that are by no means good, yet they don't disturb the Force.
