You hear this all the time, someone says a movie is bad, though for the most part it's all objective. There have been great movies that everyone hated sans a few people, and movies that were honestly horrible that everyone loved, but a few people said sucked. What in your mind does a movie have to include or lack that makes it bad?

Bad script & bad acting. IMO, bad directing is usually because of a bad script. I mean look at Lucas, ANH is seen as one of the best movies ever. While TPM & AOTC suck.

What would a bad script be, though? Cliches? Boring jokes? Some people like that ****, that's what I'm saying.

bad jokes, if its supposed to be funny. poor acting, a story that does not engage you, characters that you feel nothing for

Well, it's all subjective, but I think most people will agree that bad acting, terrible humor, or a story that just isn't engaging will kill a movie pretty quickly.

For me, I guess its when a movie makes me cringe or roll my eyes.

Agreed, what constitutes whats terrible humor, etc, is to much based on the individual

Id add that while bad writing (for example) can cause bad direction/acting, it can also be saved by good directing/acting

and any other combination

Judging by your signature Greg Keener is a pretty good indicator of a bad movie.

Poor attention to character = a bad movie. If a movie doesn't have characters that you care about, then it fails. I've always found that characters, or the character development of the protagonist is the cornerstone to any movie. A movie's greatness, or suckness, depends solely on character development.

A bad movie to me is a movie that I'd never want to watch again. The acting, the writing, and plot is wack basically.:o

For me a bad movie is when it doesn't meet the expectations it sets itself to be.

Like the Charlies Angel's movies pretty much have a bad rep, and I never understood it. They were not meant to be award winning evolutionary masterpieces; They were made to be fun action movies based on a 70's show that didn't really have much of a story other than these 3 women were agents for an unknown man and they solved crimes, fought bad guys, etc. That's pretty much what we got plus more. Decent story, good acting, great cinematography, and entertainment value.

Again it is all subjective, but if a movie that tries to be better than it actually was and fails for the majority of the time, e.g. Spiderman 3, X-Men 3; That to me is a bad movie.

I used to go to a friend's house and we would watch some movies and.. whatever, we were talking once about this guy and I told her something like, this guy's presence in a movie is a guarante —to me— that the movie will suck

I had no prob with Scream or the Scooby Doo movies.:o

First and foremost, a "bad movie" is a movie that I don't enjoy and deem "bad." Bad is an opinion, and I will never say some bulls*** like "the movie was great but I just didn't understand it." There is no such thing as a universal opinion or an end-all, be-all stance on a specific movie. I will never sway and say a film is good because society (whether it be critics or the general movie-going audience) deems it good. That kind of mentality is called elitism. If I don't like a movie, I don't like it and that's it. If I think it is bad, it is bad and nobody's opinion will negate my own opinion under any circumstance.

A move that doesn't connect and/or a movie that has a LOT of cheesy parts.

A movie that was just thrown together by a studio to make a quick buck . Although sometimes they are afraid to tell a comedian that his jokes arent funny and so a bomb is released .

A movie with:

Bad acting
Bad script
Bad directing
Bad taste
the list goes on.

A movie that fails to connect with an audience, or that has a script(regardless of the actors) that was done in just bad taste, with awful jokes or whatever is also considered bad in my mind and I'll refuse to watch it every again.

If it's not entertaining and it's as simple as that. If people are entertained by the movie then all the other factors don't actually matter. When you're entertained you ignore bad acting, bad directing and concentrate on the good. When you're not entertained all the flaws jump at you.

A good example is the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean movie, that movie in terms of acting is horrible the lead actor is Olando Bloom, the lead actress Keria Kneightly, the direction is terrible, he prefers CG to actual actors, the plot is inchorent, the characters, as written are bland, the Governor etc are all idoits, Jack Sparrow is an evil pirate but still risks his life to save someone for no reason other than it's the right thing to do. It's a poorly made film.

But Johnny Depp and Geophry Rush are great so peopleignore all that.
