What do people assume about you from your accent/dialect?

I have a slight Southern accent. I can speak without accent for the most part, but on some words I have a drawl. I'll say ''Tiguh'' instead of ''Tiger'' for instance.

The Northeast
Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

i've been told i have a fairly clear jersey accent. although, compared to some of my friends, it's nothing :whatever:

When you travel from your current place of residence, do people assume particulars about you from the way you speak, whether you have a certain accent or dialect regarding your voice? I remember going to L.A. for my family reunion back in July and ordering something at a fast food spot and the girl was like, "are you from someplace like wisconsin or something?" I said, close...Indiana. "Yeah, I can tell, you have like a midwest thing going on in your voice. Plus you asked for a pop instead of a soda." Go figure.

I get two versions of this. When I meet people from Northern states, they can pick up on my slight southern accent. Sometimes they assume I like southern guy things like Nascar, hunting and country music. I don't like any of those things.:whatever:

Conversely, people that I meet from the south often assume that I'm from a neighboring northern state because I speak more quickly than most southerners. Also, my public speaking classes in college rid me of many colloquialisms. For some reason this can lead people to assume I'm a jerk.

When I'm in LA, people always assume I'm from NorCal. Which I am, because I say hella all the time. Stupid SoCal *******s. They put the infront of everything.

that im smart and not from pa.They also assume i have good grammer.

According to the quiz, I got Midland. My next highest accent was the West, which makes sense, I guess.

People assume I'm white over the phone, though. Just the other day at work, a customer was shocked to hear how properly I speak (I was borderline offended, too). One of my co-workers thought I was English when he first met me, which was way out there, but the same thing once happened at school O_o

I talk with an accent and know that I'm not a native english speaker.. in Mexico they can quickly tell that I'm from the north of Mexico :yay:

here in "killa cali" is soda fool..thats how we roll..wanna make somethin of it:ninja:

People assume I'm American because I mask my accent but I dont even have a green card. I grew up in England and when I talked to my friends back there I talk in that accent and when i talk to folks here it's different.

I don't know if its fake of me to do that but I am already different being Asian but having a Brit accent and Azn just makes me feel like I stick out.
