What do you think of Michael Jackson the musician, not the man/woman/whatever he is?

what do you guys think of Michael Jackson's talent? we all know he's an eccentric who's cocoo for cocoa puffs, but his talent? He's the second biggest selling musician of all time, unless you count his Jackson 5 stuff, than he's the biggest. He set world records with all three of his tours for the highest grossing tours. He made the biggest selling album of all time, and he's set numerous records with his videos, and awards he's won. Most pop stars have to be very attractive to do this, with perfect images, but he managed to do this with a messed up face, and during half of this success he was viewed as a child molestor. most musicians could never go platinum with that hanging over him, yet he launched the highest grossing tour ever after being accused, and then released a 50 dollar album which sold 18 million copies.

I personally believe that when it comes to musical talent, there is no close second. but what about the hypsters?

You can see all kind of stuff from him on U tube.

Off the Wall and Thriller are two of the greatest albums ever.

However, most of the genius comes from Quincy Jones.

billie jean, and beat it, the two best songs on thriller were written by MJ himself, and the instrumental melodies were created by him as well, though not performed by him. can't remember the credits on Off the Wall that well.

critics often hail those two albums as the best of all time, but my personal choice is dangerous. It's a little harder, and he uses the man voices more and the girl voices less. I always liked his screaming agressive voice a lot.

I don't bother with pop music

I dont know how much you've explored his music, but I'm the same way. I prefer metal. Don't like much pop, but I'm a huge fan of MJ. His music is so diverse that you'd probably find something you like, unless your heavy into rap, even though there is some of that in there, but it's usually the week part of the song. He's got some metal stuff, and worked with Slash extensively and made a great song with mick Jager, called State of Shock.

and there is always beat it with van halen.

I don't consider him pop. I consider him rock, r&b, and soul.

I dig old school Mike. I still jam Thriller all the time. His later stuff, I don't care for though.

He was great. In all the levels: composing, dancing, singing, etc. He was a brillaint musical artist, probably the best one from the 80s with Madonna and Prince.

He has an album coming out next year, or so I've heard.

He wrote Thriller guys.....Thriller.

Michael Jackson was amazing....he always had the best music videos.

I want him to simply release his unreleased material from back in the day. Invincible sucked compared to his old stuff.

To quote Dave Chappelle:

"He made Thriller, man. Thriller."

DwarfLord voted not that good. since when is four vocal octaves not that good? Thats' an incredibly wide range, not to mention being able to sing arrangements an dnote combinations that nobody else can. not to mention half of the instruments are actually his voice.

not to mention the dancing.

Grew up with MJ, Jackson Five and watched Janet on Good Times.
I'm not a huge admirer/follower of his more recent stuff, but you have to give the man his props.

Most young singers that are out now, whether they be rock, urban or what have you, have been influenced by MJ in some fashion. They just have.

Michael is one of the greatest entertainers music has ever witnessed, regardless of how ****ed up his personal life is at this point.

In the "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" days, and even parts of "Dangerous", he was incomparable. His later stuff just doesn't do anything for me and I feel as if he's squandered his amazing talents and gifts on the freakshow aspects of his life. I wish he would have just focused on his music because, aside from his obvious inluence in certain pop acts (Usher comes to mind, immediately), Michael Jackson is nearly irrelevant in today's popular music.

Yup. Thing is, he could, as said before, have been an awesome producer. And everyone knows that some producers are nutso, so that wouldve fit him perfectly. But, hes out of touch with today....
