How is it random when their the one's partly pushing for it and their plan was for it to go on as long as the spider man movies went on? which was 7 movies as well. with the add spin off's in prequel and sequel form to boot.

A direct sequel to The Last Stand isn’t needed. The franchise can continue without it, as it is doing now. And how has the X-Men franchise deviated from the above plan? It hasn’t. The X-Men franchise is the longest running new superhero franchise, surpassing the Spider-Man franchise in both its number of movies and years under its belt. The fourth X-Men related movie is filming and set to be released next summer. The same can’t be said for Spider-Man.

Btw if you haven't figured it out the wolverine movie is a prequel which leads him to his present day in the film. so it's not all past event's be for he met the X-Men. kinda the same with mags too. I'm just taking the wait an see approach.

Okay...

No X-Men 4. It will be too difficult and expensive to get the cast back together, and it would be pointless to have a random fourth installment to a complete trilogy. In response to fans, Rothman promised more X-Men movies and Fox is delivering X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Magneto, and what appears to be a prequel of sorts.

It depends on who they want to bring back. For instance, Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops and Jean all don't have to be brought back. And it wouldn't be completely unexpected for Wolverine, Rogue, Beast and Angel to be missing as well. And I can see ways for Iceman, Colossus and Kitty to be absent as well. Essentially, the only character 'needed' to return is Storm since she was last seen running Xavier's school.

i like the idea of the young x-men (just make it an X-Men sequel). have Storm as headmistress and keep her in the background. Wolverine can come and go as he pleases, and focus the movies on a new team:

Iceman
Colossus
Angel
Kitty
Rogue (repowered)
Cannonball

id like to introduce Havok as a new older student and have him work his way up to field leader. bring in people like Polaris, Wolfsbane, Gambit, etc. even introduce new guys like Dust, Surge, Elixir.

villains i want to see:

Hellfire Club
Bastion and/or Sentinel program
Nathaniel Essex/ Mr. Sinister
and eventually Apocalypse

even though Last Stand wasnt what I hoped for, think the franchise can still continue on from here. it doesnt need to reference the previous films, but it also doesnt need to go out of its way to erase them.

those are my thoughts anyway :cwink:

One of the problems which arose during the original X-Men trilogy was with Halle Berry wanting a bigger/more central role. Putting her character in the background (again) would most likely cause her not to accept the role. Rather, I would say giving her an Xavier-like role as the parent figure/adviser to the students (who'll be the main characters) would be a better solution since it'd give her more to do and work with (Storm in the first X-Men trilogy was pretty much a one dimensional character).

That sounds like an X-Men movie without the X-Men.

yea thats what i meant. besides id prefer if they cast Storm anyway within someone with a smaller ego.

If Halle was happy with her X3 role, she'll be happy with the same size of role in X4.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that.

beside she said she want to do to despite the fact some fans may see her as too old now. pushing 40 now. we'll see.

another thing that might be nice to see is if they did decide to bring in lots of new mutants, they could rotate the cast for each sequel. youd see Gambit in the background or in a quick Danger Room scene in one movie, but then hes on the main team in the next. i think it would be a fresh take, and it would be a chance for everyone to get to see their favorite X-Men in a cameos and/or a leading role without crowding the series for attention.

All the more suitable to play the Xavier-like role who dishes out guidance and wisdom to the younger mutants. Less of a field agent and more of a commander.

that sounds really really interesting.

I'd say more than a cameo, it could be main character in one movie and in the other secondary roles, or a bit smaller, but not cameo cameo, hehe.

Maybe appearing at the begging, in the middle, and at the end, to remember the audience they are still there, hehe.

I like the idea.

I want a spin-off first, after X-men 3, I was let down. After a few years; maybe X4, but for now I'm really geared for spin offs.

LOl if we're talking field agent which they are you mean director or chief then . don't worry I get what you mean, even though storm's no where near that age in the books. but I can see them(cyclops) doing the young director or chief role . but I get what you mean. javi1024 made a good point though .
I like his idea.

But i still think that with each movie they should focus spot light on certain characters. and let next character get spot light. like for example cyclops gets one and then storm and so on with the others . but ether of the two ways can be done.
and part ofthe problem was too much introduction of characters. they need to slow that down that's what was the problem with the last 3 too much introduction not enough story.

Doctor doom I think every knows that's what their already doing.

I think Halle will be a better Storm with the pass of the time.

I like the idea of an older Storm, more mature, and being the new director of the school, I really like it.

Or they could just avoid having one character (Wolverine) steal every single moment in the movie. That normally helps the rest of the cast shine a bit.

Neither!

Spin-of for sure... that's a stupid commercial move.

The only sensible thing to do is to make a reboot of 'The Last Stand', and name it X3 to be in continuity to X2. Act as if that film never existed.

In my opinion:

X3 should deal with:
-The Cure
Magneto with the complete Brotherhood (Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Juggernaut, Pyro, Avalanche, Mystique... maybe even have Blob or Toad)
-Genosha
-Sentinels!
-Jean may return, but not play a crucial role as Phoenix, and X3 should put an end to Magneto's story about acceptance and the conflict between homo sapience and mutants.

X4 should cover the Dark Phoenix saga with the Hellfire Club, as a masonic order, and Sinister whose the man behind the curtain of the club. (They would simply fit perfectly in a film)

If X3 and X4 are received well, then X5 should be about Apocalypse.

no studio has done that ever and I think will never do it.

I mean, trying to forget a sequel and make the same chapter of a known franchise, that's kind of.... weird, at the very least.

X3 wasn't good, but they could do a new sequel and better if want it. It only depends of them.

I agree that the third X-Men movie wasn't exactly good but it wasn't so bad that they can't make a sequel out of it, surely? I mean, they left enough plot to work another movie in. As others have said, they could further explore the consequences of the cure with the public pressuring for all mutants to be forced to take it, etc.

As for it not being permanent, they can overlook Magneto's apparent recovery, say it has a very, very rare incidence rate (all medicines have this same problem to different degrees actually) or just have people not know this until much later.

You must 4got that Marvel is re-doing the Hulk franchise over after the 2005 movie got bad reviews from fans and critics, even though it was a finacial success.

So it possible for Marvel to re-do X3 if they wanted to and maybe pick actors who look like the characters, better story plot and character development whch could possibly lead to a X4 and a true closure to the X-Men franchise:yay:

but Incredible Hulk is still considered a sequel. all this one does is retell his origin (in flashbacks), it doesnt erase Hulk from existence.

Just b/c you don't contradict doesn't mean people should assume its an automatic sequel... unfortunately if you wait only five years people will make that assumption. But as long as you don't acknowledge events that took place in the Hulk it shouldn't be considered a sequel and TIH isn't a sequel.

they waited 12 years to make Terminator 3. 16 years for Godfather 3. 19 years to make Indy 4. they were all sequels. no contradictions, no revamps. because Incredible Hulk is going in a different direction, retelling his origin, its a special case. but it still takes place after and relates to the events of the first film, so it can be considered a sequel.

Hulk only had one movie before The incredible Hulk, so it isn't the same case as X-men franchise. They just wanted to forget Ang Lee movie and create a new version with a different cast for the rest of the years.
Fox/Marvel won't do that with the x-men. At least not in 6-8 years.

just doing again X3 is absolutely out of consideration.

Do you think Famke, Hugh, Ian, etc will come back to make the same sequel?... specially Famke, she wasn't happy with the final result and said she's done with the x-movies.

And the general audience wouldn't understand a new X3.... how can we have two X3 versions? no offense, but that's a bit ridiculous, really.

The logical next step is continue the franchise, like all the studios have done with their franchises in all the cinema history.

javi is right they said the the hulk movie was a both a sequel and do over in one HULK REDUX?

http://mutanthigh.com/smf/index.php?topic=1049.0
or that their using their sequels as do overs. back in the day

and same with punisher 2 which is now punisher war zone. cause they(fans didn't) didn't like the fbi guy driven to tears in the first movie with one thought of family . their going the marine psycho version in the second one. they are doing the correcting of the mistakes in first one movie through their sequel's and spin offs marvel said as much. As to X-Men they said they'll make it up to us through their sequel's and spin offs on both tv interviews and more they can't not do that after saying that much on both mediums. and saying that they want fans to say they want more on freaking tv and have it online on video of them saying so for x3 even befor it ended in movie theaters . same with spiderman and that ones happening, so is x-Men.

why your argueing I have no clue fat one. let the spin offs get over and done with already.

Just wait til those are over. And chill.

i want Marvel to get back the rights for Daredevil and continue his story. id really like to see him portrayed more as the tortured Catholic that the DC started doing.
