I don’t know if you live in the US or not, but I’m going to explain this for people who don’t - The CW is not a real network like ABC or CBS or HBO or FOX that has programming 24/7. Instead, it buys airtime from local affiliates in each state and runs exactly 10 hours of programming each week (2 hours a night Monday-Friday).
The Tribune Broadcasting Company owns the majority of the networks that The CW buys airspace on - including the airspace in all the major cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, Dallas, etc. The president of the Tribune company is not happy with The CW’s performance and low ratings and their affiliate deal expires in 2016 so there’s a solid chance that it won’t be renewed.
If that renewal doesn’t happen, it’s anyone’s guess what will become of the network. The popular theory is that they will try to do an online subscriber thing, but it’s also very possible that Warner Bros. and CBS will just write the entire thing off as a loss and be done with it.

Shows like Arrow and Flash will be carried on somehow, trust me. WB itself has vested interest in them. If they can't put them on the CW, they could move them to Netflix or something. Even if the CW isn't carried on, those shows will be.

Funny how Liguori is disappointed at CW. Yet what kind of ratings is Salem bringing in for Tribune owned WGN America? It's been so low the the ratings aren't even registering on the Nielsen system. Which means it's not even cracking a 0.1 18-49 demo.

Hmmm.

Time Warner and CBS vs Tribune.

Wonder who will win that battle?

My money is on the two companies that weren't $13 billion in debt, had to file for Chapter-11 bankruptcy, which they spent 4 years in and emerged from not more than a year and a half ago.

I think Mr Liguori wants a piece of the pie, since most of the cw programming comes from CBS or WB.

Supernatural, arrow, flash, izombie WB

reign,Beauty & the Beast CBS.

The CW is FINALLY getting to well-rounded programming as a whole, and they want to do away with it. Unbelievable. I thought the whole complaint was that they were too focused on teen-girl romance with Vampire Diaries, 90210, Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, etc., so they broadened their demographics with Arrow and Flash. They're doing exactly what they should be doing. I'd argue that they're a better network than most.

I'm not really buying this "low ratings" BS for a second. Arrow seems to be doing considerably well for the network it's on, and Supernatural has had a steady, small (but loyal) fanbase for years. They're doing fine. If you look at Conan on TBS, I'm not sure he's even getting a million viewers a night. If I'm wrong, correct me by all means. But TBS just leaves him alone and lets him do his thing; they don't care about ratings or money.

Grrrr... Leave CW alone. Seriously. :cmad:

The Tribune president just wants to put his crappy programming on The CW.

Ya I saw that he point blank said that "maybe it's time for him to get a seat at the table".

So of course he's going to say Tribune is dissapointed in the CW's programming. He can't publicly say anything positive or it would undermind what he is trying to pull.

But the fact is Tribune needs CW programming or it will be running repeats of old shows in primetime and will end up just like MyNetworkTV, a syndication network. If you asked 100 people that had MyNetworkTV when was the last time they watched something on it, 99 would probably respond, "What's MyNetworkTV"

That's lame.

On a totally unrelated note, one way shows like Arrow and Flash can continue in the future is if a corporation was smart enough to create a Superhero TV channel. Something like Comedy Central or ESPN being exclusive to comedy and sports, it's superheroes 24/7. The audience is most certainly there.

Make a deal with DC and Marvel, air all the live-action films, air all the live-action shows, CREATE new live-action shows and cartoons, air all the animated series (Superman, Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man), and Direct-to-Video animated movies... That channel would be close to #1, and there's so much content to air, they'd never run out of programming. Kids AND adults would eat it up. Hell, mornings can be cartoons, evenings can be films. :word:
